I'm actually very happy I can ignore this system and still do m+ fine... huge upgrade over forced grinds in BfA.I solo'd Torghast just to get my rank 3 leggos on prot pal and rsham and I'm now done with that, the maw, renown, WQs and anything else and can just run m+ casually...BIG WIN
I have World Boos too :)
The catch up works like a charm. Managed to get my DK to the cap (18 that day i think) in 2 days. Also, VERY nice for gearing up fresh alts! Now if we can only get PARTIAL torghast catch-up (having 8 layers unlocked on alts) it would've been perfect.
lol people complaining gearing is not alt friiendlyLike wtf. were you expecting you're 220 on your main so when your alt hit 60 it obtains a chest full of 210 items?
ADVICE!If I could give any advice it is if your going to try and do all this asap leave the weekly renown quests till the very last!Use the catchup methods i.e dungeons, raid, world boss etc to progress you as far as possible then when you reach the current max renown level for the week THEN use the 2 weeklies to cap you to max.If you do the weeklies before you have fully caught up to the current week once you reach that point the game wont offer you any more renown and you will have to wait until next reset to get completely up to speed.I got caught out doing this the first time and was locked out with no way to progress 2 renown away from cap. Learnt my lesson with my other alts.
There seems to be a bug in the renown catchup system. If you complete the weekly anima quest and lost soul quest before you finish the catchup for the week, you will be stuck 2 renown levels below the cap for the entire rest of the week, even while being completely caught up with the campaign. The only way to ensure you can reach the current weekly cap is to farm catchup renown first, then save the souls and anima weeklies until you reach the cap before the campaign quests let you get the rest.I've had this happen on an alt I stopped playing for a few weeks, and friends ran into this too.
I am going to call "shenanigans" on the "not alt-friendly" aspect. Before now, maybe, but with the renown level cap as high as it is right now takes maybe 2-3 days to get to an easy ilvl 170+ and start doing LFRs and other content. Ride your covenant gear all the way, but hope for good trinket, ring and weapon drops along the way.It seriously took me a week, maybe, of focused (but not insane) gameplay to get my paladin from 50 to ilvl 172. I highly disagree that is not alt-friendly.+1 for the World Boos! I will never call them anything but from now on!
Damn World Boos, never giving me gear, only gold.
Even this guide is unclear in its writing so I will make it clear: DO NOT complete the two weekly renown quests (anima, maw) until your very last. If you do them before collecting all of your catch-up renown you can and will be soft locked out of reaching the renown cap.
