There's a lot of abilities that are more flavor than anything super effective. Much of your power will likely come from the conduits which you will be putting yourself, not from the special abilities. I'd expect each covenant will have one that is better for each class but it comes off as play as you want than anything.
It is actually a good thing we finally know how they plan on balancing covenants since it was clear soulbinds are just some fun flavor passives, nothing major. But conduits clearly can give strong ST boosts for a covenant with an AoE ability for that matter.
Every bit of gameplay customization is welcome.
Two things I would like to see/say:-I would like to have everything player power and abilities related combined in one UI with tabs for every system like the specc/talent UI. For BfA as an example that would look like this: first the 3 speccs as they are now, below that my HoA, then the azerite armor that just shows the 3 pieces and opens the individual slot on click, and lastly just a list of my currently equipped corruptions.Simple QoL change, but it's annoying to go back and forth between so many UIs before every raid (worst case every pull)/m+/bg only to end up forgetting to change one of the above anyway. -I'm curious to see how we will acquire those conduits. I don't want to see another "go grind every aspect of the game and then wait for weeks till you have enough pieces" like essences are or another RNG-fest like corrupted gear (with the latter supposedly being the great answer to RNG-complaints about war-/titanforging lol).I loved the legendaries in legion and i played enough to get 1 per week on each of my 3 chars I played at the time, but it's unfortunate that they waited too long with the implementation of the currency, so most players look back on them with a sour taste because there was too much RNG involved (getting them+what i get).Their selling argument was to give players a nice random power surprise during everyday activities and to me it actually felt that way. However, why do they have to be mutually exclusive? Just give us a weekly capped currency to buy an initial perk and another grindable one to increase the power of the perk up to an acceptable maximum with RNG sometimes removing the need for the latter. This could apply to gear (making war-/titanforging a possibility) or the current power system of the expansion (legendaries, essences, corruption effects or those soul conduits). That way eg a mythic raider won't be as sour to see an lfr-"noob" with their bis-legendary or their bis-trinket titanforged to current max-gear-level because if RNG doesn't shine upon them they can easily get it themselves. I'm sure it could also be tweaked in a way that still gives high-end-content more value so those "hardcore" players can retain their feeling of superiority standing next to an RNG-blessed "casual".
I don't mind more borrowed power systems, I just want them to be GOOD borrowed power systems. They took a step with Legion and then several steps back in BFA. Shadowlands remains to be seen so I nor can many give a valid answer that if this is gonna suck or not till we go further into the alpha/beta.

If they're set on borrowed power design, I'd really prefer they just add one more talent row and fill it with expansion themed talents that cycle out every new expansion. There are way too many systems to go through to get to your final, playable character. Even people demanding more RPG elements should be able to see that; no other game I can think of has so many separate systems to go through for "customization". In BFA it's Talents, PvP Talents, Azerite, and Essences. In Shadowlands it's even worse - Talents, PvP Talents, Covenant Ability, Soulbinds, and Legendaries, and then in Torghast you add Anima Powers. Crazy. I'm fine pulling up the talent window and changing things around based on what content I'm doing; I hate doing that 4 more times to get going.
Hi guys, when is Theotar available in the calculator?
you can make the best xpack ever, if people don't like playing their character they won't play.
