I had a really cool opportunity to work on 'The Maw' alongside fellow level designer Jestry Ahlswede. Together we built a zone themed around the general concept of hell within the settings of World of Warcraft. Overall, this zone was a challenge to build because it needed to be fun, engaging, and still feel like a threatening place while you quested through the zone. The zone also needed to service as a focal point towards the main tower of Torghast located within the skybox of the zone.
I had the immense pleasure of working on one of the dungeons for Shadowlands, "De Other Side". This dungeon was so much fun to work on and the wheels were basically removed when it came to putting together these spaces. The throwback space to Zul'Gurub involved turning multiple assets upside down to create an otherworldly vibe to the boss space for Hakkar. For the Ardenweald space we kept the theme similar to the main zone, but pumped up the background effects to introduce both troll and more floating ascetics to help push it into a more bizarre thematic setting.
During the early development of Shadowlands, I had the enjoyment of getting to work on a very colorful zone known as Ardenweald. I worked alongside several other Level Designers to layout and conceptualize some of the early development spaces such as the Ysera Dream locations, and many of the early Drust locations in the south. Overall, Ardenweald proved to be a successful high fantasy zone for World of Warcraft and a fan-favorite for many!
