Retribution is going to gain quite a few old talents as baseline abilities. You'll always have access to
Wake of Ashes,
Consecration,
Hammer of Wrath, and
Word of Glory albeit with some changes.
Blessing of Sacrifice is a utility ability that we'll once again be able to use to either help save another player during periods of heavy damage or get maximum damage from
Shield of Vengeance. Other than that, we're gaining
Shield of the Righteous which won't be used very often since it requires a shield equipped to use and many of our other abilities require a two-handed weapon to be cast, and
Turn Evil which is a single target fear that can be cast on Undead, Aberrations, and Demons.
Auras are also returning to Paladins. These are raid-wide buffs with a restriction that only one can be used at a time per Paladin. Multiple buffs of the same type don't stack. You'll want to make sure there's one Paladin using
Devotion Aura in your group, but if someone else has that buff covered feel free to use one of the other two.
Concentration Aura is also available in Shadowlands but can't be used during pre-patch due to its level requirement.
- Devotion Aura - Grants a small damage reduction. Probably the most valuable aura for a raid as a whole.
- Crusader Aura - Increases mounted speed. Notably also increases the speed of Divine Steed.
- Retribution Aura - Rather than being a raid-wide buff like the other auras, the Paladin using the aura gains Avenging Wrath if an ally dies within range.
In place of the now-baseline talents, Retribution will have a lot of new (and some returning) talent options. Azerite Traits
Empyrean Power and
Light's Decree are being added as
Empyrean Power and
Sanctified Wrath, giving us access to more cleave damage options.
and
Holy Avenger both allow for more burst oriented builds on a 45 sec and 3-minute cooldown respectively.
Final Reckoning is a brand new ability that does a large chunk of AoE damage and increases the damage that your other Holy Power spenders do to the targets, and is looking like an extremely potent option as well. On the defensive side of things,
Healing Hands increases the healing potential of
Word of Glory massively and can be very strong if you don't mind spending some Holy Power on it rather than on your damaging abilities.
