The biggest sin of Shadowlands was turning Arthas into a wisp and not letting him and Uther have closure with each other. Even Anakin and Obi-wan reunited in some way in the end and Arthas's story was a direct parallel to it.
Interesting stuff. So WoW basically is sitting right now where Legion was sub wise. Only difference is that number is now a fragmented subscriber base rather than all being in one version of the game.
They still aint listening to the playerbase, many of us have asked for Tbc era and LK era servers but they went ahead and forced another expac on us, the major one where most of us quit...Cata is technically the base game of WoW now so it isnt classic yet in my eyes
Amazing how much damage Danueser did with his story direction. Also hilarious how many people were triggered by the "blunderstorm" comment
Re: Shadowlands the funniest part is the whole thing is classic Actiblizz. They swore up and down they knew better than we did when we said in Alpha that Covenants were going to be awful and there was no actual choice involved and it would be a disaster and they just hand waved and went "nah we're fine you guys will love it" and now it's "Shadowlands involved the most historic loss of subscriber retention in the history of WoW. We think it's because the story was $%^&, the systems were terrible and we didn't listen to the community enough" It's always the same song and dance with Blizzard. -Introduce thing and ask for community feedback-Get told thing is going to suck or be outright broken by said community-Be told we all have no idea what we're talking about-Release anyway and it flops-After expansion is over and damage is already done go "yeah we missed the mark on it we'll learn for next time"-Repeat same thing over and over and over and over.Things do seem to be trending at least slightly in the right direction with more frequent updates and game systems people actually want to participate in but it's going to take way more than just one or two expansions to prove to anyone who has been playing this game for even longer than a couple of years to not roll their eyes at every announcement and say "yeah but what's the catch?"
If you look at classic is back coz they focus too much on classic instead of retail. I would shut down classic if I had to decide. Make retail great again!
It looks like the store mount they added at the launch of TBC Classic really did some damage. I'm surprised no one has mentioned it here.
Content creators who just crap on the game for views are the problem and then it becomes this clout circle jerk.
There is no way the y-axis on that graph represents players in absolute numbers. Incredibly dishonest graph (with convenient lack of labeling). Also telling they didn't expand it further back when subs were known to be much higher such as back through even MoP. I think that's probably intentional as on a larger scale of half the game's life the dip would have to be rather noticeable. Also I like how they assess the failure of SL story merely in terms of not adequate build-up, existing characters being diminished and a strange "afterlife setting wasn't accessible" whatever that means when I could sum it up more simply: retconning decades of beloved story to insert mary-sue villains in the one place smart writers know to never definitively flesh out in their fantasy franchise by going there (the afterlife) killed the game.
I love that the old "You think you do, but you don't!" is actually true haha The drop after Classic is huge.
