The t.co link goes to an older Wowhead tweet from '19 :D
The controller support would be amazing, maybe not so much for end game content as there are just too many options to fit onto one controller and the pace the game moves makes it very hard to do things like healing a large raid group. But it would definitely be something good for those who currently play in some fashion with the controller addon like my kid does and people who just want a more relaxed game play.Unless they plan to make end game raids also available to smaller groups, from someone who has done all roles in raiding, healing a 20-40 man end game raid group at the pace WoW plays would just not be possible.
While I would probably not use it for any serious content the idea of screwing around on my warrior or Demon Hunter with a controller seems kinda fun. Do it for World Questing.
Except FFXIV does it. You can play the hardest content on a controller. It isnt hard to make it work.
The hardest FFXIV isn't nearly as hard as the hardest wow content tho. There is no way you could heal a mythic endboss on a controler.
The idea of WoW stepping away from "everyone is playing at a keyboard and can therefore chat" is a lot, a lot bigger than people realize when it comes to designing the main vein of the game! Just officially supporting a "potentially textless random group" is massive!Of course it's been done, but it IS a culture shock for WoW!
If someone is planning to play pvp with gamepad lemme know, maybe I'll finally have my chances at pvp xD
I'm guessing the next gen consoles will be able to handle WoW.
Any chance the gamepad support is in preparation for some form of VR option for wow?Not seen anyone mention it here, but people have said plenty of times in the past they would like some form of official support for it, and one of the biggest barriers to it right now is surely having to play on a keyboard / mouse.
I'm actually hopeful the spell density options will allow us to go in the *opposite* direction referenced in this article. No one in my group has been complaining about spell visual clutter since MoP really, but every expansion we've lost access to seeing more and more of our allies' spells. I can't see friendly druid moonfires/sunfires anywhere in the world for example and most other spell effects on targets suffer the same fate. The game has become less visually-appealing to me in-combat when I notice these things and I'd like the option to revert it.
I've been playing with controller since Mid Mop using xpadder and later with the ConsolePort Addon. I do heroic raiding, Rated BGs and arenas as an enhancement shaman mainly. But I've managed to play most classes and every role easily. There are ways to do it, and that was all on an old school Xbox360 controller. If they add official support, they can do so much more than what an addon can do to provide more utility. It is not a case of having enough buttons, there are enough and more than enough with controllers that have the extra buttons on the bottom. It's just right now it takes a ton of practice and fiddling to get the set up that works for you, and a large part of that is the lack of official support where road bumps and quirks pop up. I can't wait to see what they do.
