I'm willing to go on as a mentor. I do a lot of that anyway on forums I'm on. I wrote "Granny's Guide to Horrific Visions" for the 55 and Over group to help people with those. I've done a lot in-game as well. And yes, I'm a real-life Granny and so I tend to do things from that "voice". So, yeah, I'm in on it if needed. :)
Nice. EVE Online has a great rookie chat and help chat. This is long over due for WoW. Thank you.

I mean, at least I'll get a quick and definitive answer to whether my account is considered in good standing or not. Admittedly I've been pretty harsh and direct towards GMs during BFA (never becoming personal or straight up rude, more demanding better from a billion dollar company that rakes in millions in sub fees alone)
I've liked this idea ever since they announced it,it will be quite fun to help new players
Just like Torghast, another copy from FF14. Not that I'm complaining about it though
It would be cool if the mentors formed a guild and dispatched knowledgeable members as needed, assigning and designating a mentor to an apprentice as the mentee approached them for assistance, help, learning, etc.
I wonder what counts as "good standing", because I've been banned one time for a week. I found a glitch in Pandaria that actually duped items, quickly reported it and asked them to roll my account back to before I accidentally got those duped items, and found myself banned within the hour for it. I liked doing the guide system that FFXIV had, and I'd like to be able to do this too since it sounds like a good way to pass time when I'm doing trivial stuff.
Love it, this is very good for the community!
The beat help you can give to new players is telling them to get out while they still can.
I think it should be based on your total account time played, a new player themselves could easily get those current requirements. As someone with years of experience and a clean record I'll be happy to do this.
This is unexpected, but pretty neat! I may volunteer.
eh theres some flaws with thisfirst u could have penalties due to the logic of other players causing negativity towards your account, thus not allowing u to help if u are in fact a good playeru could reach 60, have good standing but be bad in the gamealso depending on the type of work asked of u, it could be something tht really shouldnt be unpaid.plus if its a new chat channel i dont like the idea of blizz limiting a chat channel to a select few. could also limit the help potential if not everyone can see it. and worse yet if we ever have lfg tools removed in retail.... off this be bad for lfg finding using chat. ud essentially be limiting players away frm 1 chat channel that may be of use for other players to communicate. cuz honestly if classic has shown me anything is that chat channels will morph into wht the players want regardless of intention. so in whatever state ya not a fan of a exclusive chat channel. and sure u could argue guilds are that, but thts like controlled by the players. and where its matters like classic, u can just join tht guild.
Not a bad thing. Pretty sure there will be veterans willing to aid the newbies around ( I know I will)
I like this idea a lot, and yeah it seems to be incomplete, maybe they'll put some more appropriately strict/lenient rules in place. My personal suggestion is, for players who gain access to being a guide, the option to turn it on and off. I would love to help people, but there are times when I am not comfortable in those situations, mostly due to stress irl and wanting to be left alone for a bit. Being able to turn it on or off would ensure that people can be (hopefully) at their best when they do have it enabled.
I see a lot of people questioning if this is helpful to new players or not, but what about the impact to the mentor? if we are marked as a mentor but don't answer questions correctly or promptly would we be at risk for reporting? Will anyone be vetting the newbie channel or will it just become a free for all like trade? Can you imagine how many repetitive questions could potentially flow into this channel? most people already spam trade chat for help and get it, granted with some off color advice, why bother switching to a different channel?
Yay I can finally make friends in WoW.
