100% Win.nice done!
This is such an honest, well articulated, and professional response to a very reasonable decision by the developers.Okay. Let’s read this comment thread.
"Good reasons" for no name reservations almost certainly translates to someone botting and tieing up swaths of names then selling them.
They could just fix this whole issue by having 1 pvp server 1 pve server 1 rp server, and rather than picking the server, you are picking the mode, like ARPGs do (league/standard/hardcore/softcore). Surely server technology is up to the task these days.
just saying, server balance isnt decided weeks before realms are live. over the course of 2-3 weeks after the initial hype dies down, people start to see Horde/ally have more players compared to the other and start rerolling/transferring out, As seen in TBC/Wotlk. that dreaded 60/40 split then that 40 turns into 35, 35 into 30 then 30 into 15, then 15 in 2.all your really doing is adding more confusing and hindering communities to thrive prior to SoD's release. if you really wanted to care about server balance, the best method is to give the horde/alliance to group together and run instances with each other and form guilds as you do in retail. it is season of discovery..
It is better to not have name reservations. In retail, names are sold for 500k-1m+ gold, not really interested in having the problem repeat itself.
i would like to see this evidence against reservations because honestly, this just sounds like the exact same thing will happen but a week later rather than preemptively. nothing they do will stop people from gravitating to the supposed "best realm" they're just delaying the inevitable, a month after release everyone will be on the server they were always going to end up on
They make it sound like its going to be multiple options per time zone which IMO would be detrimental just like it was in SoM otherwise having 1 PVE 1 PVP per timezone leaves little option. The only thing guaranteed are the RP-PVP crowd has one choice which IMO will probably produce the most balanced server.
Prepare to level multiple times because you chose the wrong server
Good. Name reserves are lame.
This is exactly what happened with 2019 Classic launch and it's completely accurate. The community "christened" Faerlina the streamer server and Herod the non streamer server as the 2 main ones and over the course of classic every other realm just dissipated because those 2 were chosen as the holy duo. In BC it then shifted to Faerlina and Benediction as the Alliance and Horde servers and they've never recovered from it.
Do you even play the game if you are not rolling a body type 2 char with a ridiculous name?
Just hope they will let people know the servers and time zones before launch... even the day of would be nice
2020 WoW was special., everything solved but also experimental but also solved and all the modern tools involved but still a mystery and everybody in Covid and just coming out of BLM
