I hope they keep it this times. Allowing to zoom out will be very helpful, for example at encounters like Halondrus. Here you need to unlock the protected orbs as a tank.Currently it is hard to find them when they spawn on the opposite side of Halondrus, because with the current zoom factor it is not possible to look above and behind Halondrus when at melee range.
"This has been in the game for such a long time".No, it hasn't.There have never been a FoV-slider or command.Yes, you could zoom out more before with a command (and certain addons), but it's not the same as changing the FoV.It's similar, but it's not the same. This is a great change, for sure. Changing the FoV is so much better than just zooming out.
Already patched ?
I wish they would just add all the different camera options like this in the default UI , including the current max camera distance. It's kinda annoying having to learn about all these different console commands, there's many players out there just clueless about this stuff.
It should be noted that zoom in/out distance and FOV are not, in WoW, the same thing. They are in the real world with real cameras, but not in WoW. Zoom in/out distance determines how far away from your character the camera will move when you use the scroll wheel. This is like moving a physical camera closer or further from a subject. With real cameras, this is called a dolly. It does not change the field of view - the lens angle - of the camera.Field Of View determines the angle of the camera's lens, ie, how wide of an angle it can see from one spot. This is like adjusting the zoom setting on a physical camera (yes, the nomenclature is swapped around) to get a wider or narrower shot without moving the camera.Functionally, they are used to adjust the same thing - "how much can I see on screen at once" - but they do it in different ways, and have different benefits and drawbacks for different people. Some people prefer a wider lens where others prefer a narrower one. Using a wider FoV means you can see more while the camera is closer to your character, but what you see will be distorted more. Using a narrower FoV means the camera has to move further away from your character in order to see as much, and what you see looks flatter, similar to a Diablo game. The setting they changed in Legion determines how far away from your character the camera can dolly when you scroll the mouse wheel. It had nothing to do with the camera field of view.
OMG YES FINALLY! I have asked for this for so many years! The narrow FoV has nerfed the beautiful world in WoW since forever. Now you might actually see some of the beautiful sky when exploring around and take in your surroundings more. It's not just that, the narrow FoV makes me sick and uncomfortable. Zooming in and out doesn't help, because it's not the same thing. And remember... higher is not equal to better. It depends on your eyes distance to your monitor and the size of your monitor. Around 90-100 should be a good number for the most of us (depends how it is measured though which makes it even more confusing. It can be horizontal or vertical FoV). I gotta say 120 looks really good for WoW though for some reason, but I have to test it myself.
OK, at the time I post this, the posty has been up for 6 hours 40 odd minutes. (12:06 BST)Anyone started a pool on when the change will be reverted? :DOr can check and comment with their local time if it has been reverted?(Think of it as Science (TM), folks...)
Great idea now can we get dungeons i.e SD where my camera doesn't smash in when I turn please. Also bosses like at the end of streets where the walls get put up and I'm dang near playing in first person.
Why does changing field of view cause the camera to zoom out? does it not actually change the field of view but only affect the zoom which directly effects the field of view?
I remember messing with something like this back in endgame mists, I'm glad to see that they're doing something with it again.
I remember a statement like "we do not want players using command lines to have an advantage over other players". Like "we only allow what can be done with the sliders in settings".So please, for the sake of god, give us those sliders...
thats great lets hope it stays
