NIce episode per usual MikeJust one question tho' bro... Any more photos of hawt Russian Girl ?
I like his journalism but he speaks as if he is talking to a room full of 14 year old Chinpokumon watching Japanese kids. Slow the hell down, stop repeating yourself, and quit needlessly elaborating with 6th grade semantics. You're not ZeroPunctuation, nor are you as funny. Please stick to what you're good at and calm down. Just calm down.
^ Sauce on the russian.
I want to go on the record here, Star Wars the old republic will suck.
YO DAWG, WE HEARD YOU LIKED SHIPS...
Fony, I love the list and I have to agree with it all but one thing: you said that the people saying that cryptic's titles were doomed from the start was BS, but the people who were saying that STO was going to be good were the Star Trek fans that were counting on some validation for their hobby. Anyone I've talked to that has had to deal with the "vision" of Jack Emmerett and Cryptic saw the train wreck coming from a mile away. For those of you unaware, Jack "statesman" Emmerett was the executive producer behind City of Heroes, and was there until shortly after the stand alone "expansion" City of Villains was released. His vision boiled down to "grind these pack of mobs on end where if there's more than 2 minion class (lowest stat mobs in the game) in a pack, you were hosed. Oh, by the way, EVERY mob pack has more than 2 minion class mobs in it." To say it was flawed was an understatement. Then he bailed out saying that he was going to make a superhero game that would kill City of Heroes. That game was Champions Online, where his same vision popped up, causing massive gaps in content and those were going to be filled by having to pay even more for it (no joke, the first real patch was originally intended to be a paid patch for content that should have been released live). Only by having to issue several hundred refunds on subscriptions did they recant on making it paid. Before that even went live, Emmerett bailed on THAT to work on STO. And as for your confusion behind "why play CO to be able to play STO free", that's how Cryptic was dealing with this "partnership" all along. The lifetime accounts for CO were not used to develop that game, but put towards developing STO. Yeah, Champions online was nothing more than a feeding trough for their franchised title. Now we come to Bill "boatman" Roper. His title before working on Champions? The online aspect of Hellgate: London. I'm pretty sure if they didn't shut down their servers, they would have had lawsuits and the only thing stopping it from outmatching APB as "shortest MMO lifespan" was the fact that it had offline play. The offline game wasn't that bad and could have done well had it not been pushed as a subscription online game with offline content. But it was, and before Roper would admit the glaring problems in the online system (some of which equated to criminal theft and fraud), he was saying that the player base was using the subscription service wrong. When Jack recruited Bill Roper, you could almost see the storm clouds brewing. Anyone who has played Jack's version of CoH and Hellgate London were placing bets on just how long it would last. When the game suffered it's most massive change two days before it went live (and after it was supposedly too late to get a refund on subscriptions), which was basically the paladin change from beta to live in WoW, but over the ENTIRE game, Roper tried to explain the change as trying to control a boat by oversteering. He had since been lambasted over his lousy community response and poor handling of the product. At current, under Matt "Positron" Millar's guiding hand, City of Heroes just released it's second paid expansion(Going Rogue), not including all the free content (issue 19 with all new end game content just hit beta) and has a larger and more loyal fanbase now that it ever had under Emmerett. Meanwhile, Champions Online and Star Trek Online, both Cryptics child, had to (poorly) adapt a F2P model just to increase their numbers in a vain attempt to stave off shutting down, something that is bound to be inevitable. At least with DDO and Lotro, there was some thought and time put into their change in payment models. So you might call it BS of people saying that they new STO and CO was doomed when Cryptic got a hold of them (funny thing, Cryptic never actually was the original designer of either game), but if you look it up, you'll find people placing bets on when the games were considered bargain bin since Cryptic made their announcements.
