I certainly don't want to see Sylvanas dead, because when I call her name I remember Sylvanas of the strategy games. What she became in WoW is terrible, but I don't want another SoO or another Garrosh. I don't know if she can redeemed, I doubt it, but I don't want her dead. I would rather have her stand down from warchief and faction leader, pick her boyfriend Nathanos and leave to live together with their Val'kyr pets in their graveyard of a house. Calia seems the best candidate to lead the forsaken, but there needs to be a reason to keep them in the Horde while she is totally aligned with the Alliance.
How did Sylvanas "usurp" Lordaeron? It was vacant! Terenas dead by his son...Arthas the Lich King and gone. Calia gone. Sylvanas was the only one left to pull the people of Lordaeron (Forsaken) together. Also, I'd be pissed too if the sister of the guy that killed me and turned me into a Banshee against my will, suddenly turned up after not giving a $%^& for years and tried to Usurp my power and turn my people against me. Sylvanas had every right. She is now the rightful ruler and Calia gave that up a long time ago.
Anduin is such a prissy little pussy
What has Calia ever done for the forsaken?
I'm a little disappointed in you Perc, your Alliance bias comes through in the summary. You infer that Sylvanas imagines a betrayal when there is an actual betrayal of faith with Calia's actions. Sylvanas is not mad and paranoid. Calia, part of the Alliance party and sister of her killer, directly acts against her and Anduin does nothing to intervene.
This comment section looks like a group of far Left & right kids gettin pissy. I see exactly how your world views work.
Alright... To begin, I need to explain that I play Horde, I'm a roleplayer on Wyrmrest Accord (the same server that Christie Golden plays on ironically).I have been tremendously excited as a lorehound for this book because I honestly wished that it was going to create for the player base a legitimate backdrop for the war as a whole. And I am going to admit off of the bat that for most of this book I absolutely loved the compelling dichotomy between Sylvanas attempting to appease her own people while following her own ambitions and Anduin attempting to pursue peace, it was a very charming concept overall.I felt nothing but pure unadulterated joy and pride as she meticulously described Sylvanas in Orgrimmar as effectively embracing her new position as the Warchief of these people, it also gave a lot of compelling insight to how she is viewed by most of her peoples. I will admit that the "Male warchief" remark (you know which one I'm speaking of) was very off, I'm not of the opinion that it was a feminist insert, I think people are simply misreading it and that it was poorly executed. Execution is an important word here actually, there is a lot of perfect execution within the opening of the book it would seem. It doesn't show Sylvanas as a perfect leader who loves everybody; it shows that she's a flawed character with her own distinct opinions. Now, so far I've stated I'm very happy with the book as a whole, however, what I feel regarding the climax of what was a fantastic novel fell nothing short of absolutely disappointing. This book has to become the "prologue" of the events which transpire in the game, and with a war coming we all knew that the book was not going to end on a good note- But this is just disappointing. To begin I do defend Sylvanas, she did do something morally reprehensible by ordering the killing of her own people, but she's also a pragmatic leader and it is how she's survived so long- in truth, as a reader of lore this IS Calia's fault, she had an inkling all along that this was going to transpire and she's the one that really urged for it to happen in the first place before exposing herself; Anduin himself says she almost caused a war with what she did. That is where I stand within lore, however, I am not going to hold back with criticizing the work itself... That was such a rushed incident and they simply chalked it up to Paranoia! There were SO MANY other ways that they could have ended it off (make no mistake they could have done this another way), instead we get a rushed ending where Sylvanas does something really really out of character for her.My post has run pretty long, so I am going to wrap it up with this closing remark: The reason that I believe that this is such a mistake is that Christie Golden is a pretty good writer, however, I beleive she's made a mistake of writing this from the perspective that this is simply a book; she has failed to realize that what is in the book will have polarizing effects on our game itself. She's failing to realize that there are players which play Horde who really need something of a moral defense to keep us playing. I do support Sylvanas through the war, but if we're made out to be villains and our defeat is justified in the grander scheme again I know for a fact that myself, as well as many others, will not be paying our subscription in the future.I both loved and hated this. I am torn.
Anduin becoming the protagonist of the game, I think my days playing warcraft are coming to an end.
We keep discussing about Sylvanas while we miss the juicy details. Turalyon is trying to set up Arator with Anduin! Unacceptable...Anduin belongs to Wrathion!
So. Sylvanas slaughtering her own people. SHE DOES CARE FOR THE FORSAKEN!11
Ridiculous.
It's just really hard to support Sylvanas at this point? It's not interesting or complex... she's just evil.
