Those that have been defending Sylvanas since the release of WoW are finally getting to see how she truly is. And yes, you can say that she being like this is justifiable, Sylvanas was torn apart, the level of suffering she endured from Arthas is probably something really bad, some can take it (Bolvar), some cant, it clearly broke her and created what she is, she has no room for "good" within her. She only seeks revenge against all that oppose her beliefs and those she sees as hers. Remember that she is the one that ordered the creation of the blight, she is the one that also planned on take Gilneas, she is the one that seeked to take over northern Eastern Kingdom ignoring the presence of even the Argent Dawn, she is the one that seeked to enslave the Val'kyrs so that they would serve her to raise more undeath. From the start, the Forsaken's goal as a faction was to raise more undeath, I will remind many of you when it was hinted by the story that she was actually in control of ALL those behind her, very much like the Lich King, later we see that she does mind control some but I am skeptical of the whole thing. From its origin, the Forsaken sought to kill all, living and undeath, the whole thing of hating everyone, but obviously more importantly the Lich King for creating them. They despised the living, just as some Horde players seem to try to be guilt tripping Alliance by saying that there is a general irrational hatred towards the Forsaken, reality is that, initially it went both ways. This is what this book is trying to expand on, and I personally find it very good and will be getting it. But to those that fervidly defend Sylvanas, look at the initial thoughts of Anduin when touching Azerite, ending wars, healing and peace. Eventually as all things of power it led to the realization of how deadly it can be. Then look at Sylvanas' thoughts, death, destruction and conquering, but conquering not by the usual ideals on which you wish to take something and make it your own while keeping the most that you possibly can, no, but by raising against their will those who she would slay and rid of their lives; into new undeath that will serve her and only her, those that do will be allowed to carry on in their new life, and those that refuse to will be given their last death because she wont have that.Sylvanas as a character has to go, that is if the Horde truly wishes to see actual gray tones in their story, for the Orcs and Forsaken to finally be "white washed" by Blizzard into the not factually evil races but only misunderstood they have been trying to do for so long, she has to go. Now with her remaining as current leader, the story can definitely be more interesting due to the powers colliding, specially with Calia taking a large role and boy that I really wish this happens because thats a story I would like to read or be part of.Ultimately, I dont think they will want to get rid of her, which is unfortunate, and if they dont, I am sure they will try to justify her actions even more and attempt to make her seem more relatable and less blatantly evil, but oh well, thats Blizzard for you.Keep in mind that we will read much more of her side in the full book and that we are only seeing a lot of Anduin's which makes him look in a better light (pun intended), and keep in mind that this is written under the guidelines that Blizzard gives to the writer. I despise the undeath, to me its wrong and their position in the world has always been wrong and brought ruin, there was no actual reason besides gameplay for them joining the Horde, if anything they should had been its own faction, all they have done has been "bad" and not natural (keep in mind that I play a Druid which is the direct opposite of undeath in terms of beliefs), but this book will most likely make me change my view on it and Calia stepping up and being a direct opposite of what Sylvanas represents seems promising.
And with this, they basicly tell any horde-player like me that ''you are forced to follow this evil witch'' and basicly be idiot cannon fodder for her. And you have no option to say no ! This is no 'grey' area. This is painting the Horde as 'Evil Sylvanas' and the idiots who follow her. I mean at least fanatics have reason to follow her and be evil but the rest of the Horde who have common sense ? If anything, after the Battle for Lordearon and the whole Blight bull#$%^ that killed OUR SOLDIERS ALSO AND SKELETONS RAISED... Sylvanas should've been cut down then and there. We killed Putress and Varimathras for pulling the same crap at Wrath Gate. Honestly, do Blizz want to have Horde population to drop down ? If they want their ''Perfect Alliance'' World, then just go create World of Alliancecraft and put the Horde out of its misery of treatments like this. After everything any Horde player go through whether in story or gameplay, how is it alright to be subject to this and have no option or reaction to literally being led by Lich Queen ? It only makes our character either evil or Stupid. Don't know which is worse.
Why! Why won't Velen and Genn leave Anduin alone! Anduin does not need advisors, and all kings are independent and need no advisors!
What kind of font does it use? It's a nice font type.
Right, because it's been SO like that in the past, right?Oh, wait, the only example would be Warcraft 1, 2... arguably 3.Yeah, the writing has never been that good.
Why does the horde have to suffer again through this bull^&*! Blizzard. Are you so *!@# at story writing that you have our last iconic faction leader for the races go down that route now too? Where is your bull@#$% horde bias now alliance players? The entire story is written about your token golden boy king.
Probably some of the worst writing I've ever seen from a WoW novel.I mean come on, Anduin has spider sense to stop him doing anything 'evil'? Really?
Soo...the novel is fine and I'm actually interested in reading it. Blizzard never said sylvanas was good. From the start she was portrayed as cartoonishly evil. I mean, her monicher IS the "Dark Lady". As a horde player I'm not against having the war or starting it if good reason is provided. Blindly following Sylvanas doesn't seem like one. On top of that all this focus on how good Anduin is can only imply towards a Garrosh 2.0 scenario where we end up joining against sylvanas. I wouldn't be against that either if only it hadn't been done before. Seems lazy to repeat that, especially changing the warchief again. There was no good reason for killing voljin other than placing Sylvanas as the warchief and all that just to end up like this?. Again I like the portrayal of Sylvanas as it is according to her character but i don't like where this leads the horde in general. Having Genn causing the war just to have a shot at Sylvanas, as some people theorized, sounded more interesting. This may still happen but seems further and further away.
My theory BFA will have Sylvanas be Garrosh 2.0 and Saurfang will basically be Vol'jin 2.0. There will be a rebellion within the Horde. Sylvanas dies, Saurfang new warchief after working with Anduin to take down Sylvanas and Calia will lead the Forsaken. Calling it.
This will go like every other expansion. Just ignore the main storyline, enjoy the local zone stories, which are usually more entertaining, then wait for the raid bosses who mostly have nothing to do with the main story.
