So even with these changes there won't be any reliable way to target two of the IE mounts? The Bloodgorged Hunter drops from Bats and the Stonehide Elderhorn from Elderhorns and, unless that list is incomplete, it doesn't seem like they can come from these caches. I vaguely remember Ion saying they'd make these rewards purchasable by the end of the expansion and I really hope this isn't what they meant because... /sigh.ETA: According to Esinar on the Snowblossom Salvage page, the Elderhorn seems to be a drop from basically any of the caches (they already have the Hunter so couldn't confirm drops), which seems to mean both these mounts can come from any caches + the other mounts which are specific to different types, which is good. According to their data, drop rates for the mounts seem to be at around 15-20%. If that's the case, this can work.
So fun and engaging. This really makes the content more enjoyable. Player agency. /s
This is bordeline mental..lootboxes really..just put the freaking mount as an option to buy for doublons..no one wants more rng
Price could be a little cheaper though.
I guess this is a bad idea. Much, much better thing would be, as many people said, put all the things that drop to a vendor to buy for dublons. BUT, also still keep them as a drop from expedition, so we still have that RNG chance to get an item. Two ways to get stuff, buy from vendor or drop by luck.
thats really expensive... over 1k dubloons to have a statistically relevant chance at a mount?this tells me that leveling up the neck is going to be a huge slog
Been testing these so far on the PTR, opened around 10 EPIC Snowblossom boxes, and 1 of them contained 2 MOUNTS at once: Bloodforged Hunter and Stonehide Elderhorn.Either I was extremely lucky or the mounts have a decent chance to drop from these. It also contained various other items such as reputation tokens, gear, and a pet.
Can anyone with PTR confirm whether these boxes contain duplicates? It sounds like a pretty nice middle ground to be honest, but I'd be hesitant to go after too many if repeats are likely!
I really hope the mount chance and yield number aren't inflated for testing purposes. This is one of the suggestions I made to make islands better a year and a half ago, and true to form I feel much more motivated to run Islands now than I ever did. I figured this would be their most preferred way to use a vendor.
It's a simple money making scheme - RNG boxes mean you have to play more to get the items. When you consider that if everything cost 100 dubloons it would still take over 40000 dubloons to buy everything (which is a huge time investment even knowing you will be able to get everything.) it just shows how much Blizzard want to drag out play time.It used to be their mantra that play more get more rewards. Now it is play more for a chance to get more rewards.
What people seem to ignore, is that if we DID get a vendor with all the items we want directly, the cost would be so absurd, that I have a feeling those boxes are actually better. That is, if those PTR drop rates don't get nerfed before getting to live.
