There were a lot of people that switched from allied to core race when the new customizations came out. I kept thinking to myself that the simple changes would come to allied races soon enough and I can wait. It's not hard to apply a large amount of those changes to the allied races. I thought they would probably carry the easy ones over in a content patch or two so they can get people to pay for switching back to allied races. I think there's a difference between adding minimal customizations vs adding customizations based on lore and race styles. I get that Blizz wants to make the allied races unique, but there is so little to pick from. I love my Zandalari Troll and as much as having some cool customization would be, I just want the orange hair for her. I wish for it almost every time I make a new tmog set. All that said, I have no problem with Blizz saying they want to focus on other content first. I think they probably shouldn't have made the comment about the customizations at all. They could have just kept it on the back burner and get to it when they feel like they have the resources for it. Now they're locked into caving to community pressure or standing firm and there's little gray area to work with, especially considering how much they said was coming.
This is a
aight how about our "supposedly pretty" noble Nightbornes?... barely useful combat racials + butchered male version of the heritage armor + deprived customization options + NO SLANTED EYES like the NPC's.... damn blizz, give our nightbornes some love if you want us to play them.
It's incomprehensible how what they did for void elves couldn't be done for Lightforged draenei. Skin tints are hard? Importing current draenei hair styles, tail lengths, and so on, is hard? They're literally on the same skeleton. Telling us "We're working vigorously to get the majority of customizations done for ship" is just another dangled carrot, and it's flat-out lazy.Nightborne? Up to current standards? Sure, 32 total options is *really* current when compared to what humans got.Tell you what. Save customizations for the end of Shadowlands. Or beyond. Hell, leave them be until three expansions from now. In exchange, lighten up on Warden and let the players make their own choices for how their characters can look via alternative means. Whether it's in-game or real life, we like to be comfortable and confident with looks. Give us some agency to do that.
Well obviously, the PROMISED customizations to be released during the run of Shadowlands and future expansions. To then suddenly go back on that statement, well, it leaves a sour taste. It doesen't even have to be big things, just some eyes or hair.Especially on nightborne, blimey.
I do not understand the drama. If you want to look pretty, play The Simms. If you want to kill "dragons" play wow. This is not something people should be getting so emotional about. Time to go outside and kick a ball around chums.
Blizzard, stop mobile games, and put more developers to the WoW.There's a lot of bugs to fix, balance problems + in free time they could work on customization.
Thank you Wowhead for covering this so well and succinctly. It matters to quite a few of us and I felt like it was blowing up on reddit and the forums but otherwise not a peep. This puts more pressure on Blizzard to respond and perhaps change course. It makes you wonder if any of the artist devs time has been switched to working on all these "classic" versions of games or even the new mobile game whatever its going to be.I absolutely hate that my money spent in the shop and on my subscription goes to anything other than retail Warcraft. GW2 did similar things for years neglecting their loyal fanbase and giving paltry updates to their content and instead used funds to develop other projects - disgraceful.
The amount of work cosmetic stuff requires is trivial compared to most of WoW's game development, and Blizz makes boatloads of money so it's not like they can't afford it... the truth is they're just too lazy to bother. Their philosophy for a long time now has just been to do the bare minimum, and it really shows
What I don't understand is why when they released some of the new allied races, they had almost no options to them. And if they can add all the customization and hair styles to blood elves, why can't they do similar to void elves. At least expand their basic hairstyles to them. I also would like to see some tauren and other updates. I would like to feel a little more original on them but yet you can barely tell the difference between them. I don't see what the big deal is as to why it must be customization versus game play. Also, I would think the dev resources for body customization (with the exception of base model shapes) would be separate from game play. However since wow has yet to see fit to fix half the issues with armor and other clipping, I doubt we'll ever see meaningful updates. I guess who cares about your hairdo when your handweapon is slicing off your legs.
I am extremely disheartened and disappointed that they are not adding in any future customizations to the vast majority of races that got none to very little. I expected at least a handful of customizations per patch. For example: 9.0.5 they bring in just things for one race, then another race for 9.1 and so forth. The only thing I can think of as far as why they have NOT done this is because they are working on WOW 2. The current game is running on 19 year old engine, albeit heavily modded and upgraded over the years, but still the base engine is old, very, very old. It makes sense for WOW 2 to come out and offer us a newer engine with a plethora of improvements in every area. At least, that's what I am hoping for.
