this would be a real good time to just drop in a frostmourne mog quest for DKs.
I can already see a raid where we have to save Anduin from "Shalamourne" and have to fight him. And of course an entire phase dedicated to Shalamourne and it splitting apart cuz thats totally something blizzard wants to have happen.
quote Radene]The Jailer continues to be an uninteresting villain. It's as if they're going out of their way to make his motivations vague and cryptic on purpose to add some sort of "mysterious" layer to an otherwise boring core. But I suppose once you decide that your villain wants to destroy all creation you don't have much room to maneuver, and have to invoke "ancient Illuminati" and allude to "a dirty secret the First Ones tried to cover up" to make his motivations make more sense than just "because reasons". If you need to veer straight into ancient conspiracy territory to give a plot some substance, while going out of your way to not reveal any specific reasons/motivations...that's just not very good storytelling. It's boring. A plot twist is only worth the effort if prior to it, the reader has enough information to figure it out on their own, if they've been paying attention. But it seems in the end they're just going to drop some flimsy justification that will come out of left field, and call it a twist. Jeez, am I being cynical...I need to lay off Torghast. It is good storytelling, you just don't know the lore. LOL the jailer wants to destroy reality huh? You're gonna really be surprised when you find out what the titans want. Hint: titan souls have nothing to do with planets, azeroth is the only titan to have ever been imprisoned in a planet, alongside argus. What if I also told you orcs and dwarves were both created through the same process? Did you know calia menethil is Eonars plant in the shadowlands so she has eyes on whats going on? What about the fact that old gods have nothing to do with the void? You sure know lore.
"Mourneblade Born" is kind of a giveaway, even with 'spoiler' at the end. Should just say "Twisting Corridor dialogue" or something.
Still hoping we see Arthas fight for the Jailer and get defeated by Jaina or Calia who'd give his soul the ultimate mercy kill.
There isn't anything inherently wrong with the major enemy being mysterious. The issue comes with the fact that it feels as though they don't know which direction to take him beyond "I want to the maw to overrun azeroth!" and at that point, that isn't a mystery. There are other directions they can go, but this needs to be fleshed out behind the scenes to make the mystery feel real, in a sense
WoW is endgame focused mmo and because of that it has a very shallow and uninteresting story. Blizzard needs to relax with all the mysteries and plot twists because no matter how much they try it won't work. Just go back to villains like Lich King, Deathwing, Garrosh whose motivations you know before you buy the expansion.
Shalamourn looks like it was made for a DK Varian, That would be awesome.
Agree with a lot of the people here, the overarching story of the Jailer is boring and uninteresting. There isn't enough information to feel a connection with any of the Jailer storyline outside of "Hey these NPC's I know are in trouble." You need a connection to care about the story and it's just not there whether it's cause of stuff cut for time issues or just bad writing who knows, but the end result is the same it's bad storytelling. Covenant storylines have some great sections, but overall the writing this xpac is almost as bad and meandering as it was in BfA. And don't get me started on the trainwreck the writing for Sylvanas has been for years where she seems to pop out do something bad then sink into the shadows while twirling her mustache just to advance the plot but yet the story hasn't advance beyond anything other than "I'm mad and bad now"
my dk wants Shalamournetwo handers for blood and unholytwo one-handers for frost
