I'm still firmly in the camp that power and Covenant choice, which is largely aesthetics, should never have been tied together. Universal soulbinds make more sense after doing the SL story leveling and the class abilities should have been a new talent row even if temporary.
Then they might as well just delete any but the strongest picks in power. Power vs. Power is not a tradeoff, so there's no choice to be had. The system
has
to tie something not power related to it to work. I understand where you're coming from, but design-wise, your PoV makes no sense.

Based on the statistics, that's how most players are picking already. Strongest pick, and when that changes they swap. People are picking what a sim tells them to pick, and very few are picking based on anything else.
All the soulbind thing I mentioned would do is make the game more user friendly, and making cosmetics not linked to that would let people pick their favorite flavor instead of only going for the strongest choice even if they hate the aesthetic.

Some of the final traits are great, but this leans even further into how big swapping covenants is.
Grinding out 55-57 renown to fully unlock your combat bonuses
and having to rebuild all the Covenant features is quite the grind.
Hopefully 9.1.5 adds a quest to jump to 40 renown. Then we can power through the original campaign for another quick 9.
*edit - I did not realize how much they sped up renown in 9.1 when making this post. I still stand by having to rebuild all the features is a grind though. Souls bottleneck you even if you have a ton of anima.
To me the only terrible part of the catch up mechanic is having to do the convenant quests all over again, specially when the post 40 quests are all the same for all covenants. They should be skippable

Disagree. That is the cost for changing Covenants. It's not supposed to be that easy. I've levelled multiple alts and been shocked how quickly you can move through Reknown...a lot of quests offer Reknown, the campaign ones occasionally offer 2 levels as a quest reward...the world boss...the daily callings... If you skip the leveling process and do Threads of Fate, each meta zone quest (i.e. fill up the bar to 100% doing zone quests) you complete grants a Reknown. I can get a new alt to Re known 50 easily this way...
EDIT: I do agree there should be some sort of skip once you complete all 4 covenant campaigns, tho...maybe to adam6961's point, once you do, you get the base level of 40? *shrug*
In my opinion we have done enough to help save the Shadowlands that the covenants should be thankful and welcoming to us and should let us borrow their powers/followers without having to leave our main covenant. For example, if I am Night Fae then the Venthyr should let me swap to their power (Ravenous Frenzy) and use the desired Venthyr soul bind without requiring me to swap to the covenant full time.

Indeed, especially now that they are all friends in the maw assaults.
