There are 7 Tanaan Jungle bosses who are guaranteed to drop specific Equipment Blueprints needed for the achievement Naval Mechanics.

Protip 1: I use Macro Toolkit to avoid having to split macros into smaller parts. There are other addons that also allow this.

Protip 2: Want an easy way to reset your Tomtom arrow to the nearest boss on the list? Just type
/cway and voila! *

Note: An 8th boss, Iron Reaver, (second boss in Hellfire Citadel) drops Equipment Blueprint: Gyroscopic Internal Stabilizer which counters Chaotic Whirlpools. The blueprint drops on all levels of raid difficulty.

Note 2: What about the rest of them? Only 3 other blueprints are available in 6.2.0. They come from various sources. Equipment Blueprint: Blast Furnace (Blast Furnace for Swift), is a quest item. Equipment Blueprint: Unsinkable (Unsinkable) and Equipment Blueprint: Tuskarr Fishing Net (Tuskarr Fishing Net) are vendor rep items.

The blueprints for Ammo Reserves, Automated Sky Scanner, Sonic Amplification Field, Q-43 Noisemaker Mines, & Extra Quarters are not obtainable and are no longer required for the achievement.

However, each of these 5 pieces of equipment has a chance to be provided automatically when upgrading or building new ships.

Hi,

This achievement seems to be unobtainable due to a bug in the achievement itself.
I was just browsing achievements when I noticed that the Blast Furnace equipment was still grayed out in the achievement itself, altough this equipment is the very first players discover in the tutorial quest line of the shipyard itself.

Also when one of my ships became epic the second slot opened with the Sonic Amplification Field equipment in it.
When I looked at the achievement to see if this equipment had turned green I found that it also stayed grayed out even though one of my ships had it equiped. If this isn't a bug this achievement is unobtainable anyway untill a further patch.

Finally I've heard that the "non-drop" naval equipment has to be found via the troll crew of your ships. I have found naval equipment this way but none of it was of the "non-drop" kind. Found the Blast Furnace equipment several times this way and equiped a ship with it but this also didn't count towards the achievement as it's still grayed out.

Following this logic, even if the "non-drop" naval equipments drops this way they won't count toward the achievement.

Edit: Blizzard fixed the bugged Blast Furnace equipment for this achievement in patch 6.2.2 going live 1st of September.

Naval Mechanics:
Credit for obtaining Equipment Blueprint:
Blast Furnace should now be tracking properly and players should now be able to complete this achievement.

Edit: It seems as if somehow it is bugged again (as you can read in the comments below). Hope if enough players sent a ticket they will fix it again.

Q-43 Noisemaker Mines

Ammo Reserves

Achievement's been half-fixed, Blast Furnace is now counting towards it, but we'll have to wait until 6.2.1 to have the other unobtainable criteria removed.

Ummm, I don't know what's going on, but I have just been awarded this achievement. No, I don't have any of the unobtainable blueprints, just the group that has been available since the start. As a follow up, I checked the vendor in my Shipyard, and he only has the usual selection of ship gadgets for sale.

Strangely, my daughter's toon was also awarded this achievement, and she hasn't killed ANY Tanaan rares. I have two separate WoW subscriptions on a single Battle.net account. In further checking, my alts also seem to have obtained this achievement, so it would appear that Blizz have made it account wide.

Just a reminder. You get credit for the achievement after you turn in the quests at the shipyard.

As of 09/01/2015, Blueprints are now learned account-wide*.

How long does it take for the naval missions to start showing? I just had one mission show but it was on an alt that is nowhere equipped to handle it...why would it show there and not for my main guy? any time frames for you guys?

This achievement seems to be bugged or something. I did it with a char (human) and those equipments were available for all of my chars until this evening. Now they are available only for my Alliance chars. I thought that this achievement was account-wide... Seems that I have to kill that whale shark and other rares with one of my horde chars... :-S

To track this achievement, go to your shipyard vendor - everything that is in red still needs to be completed. Salty Jorren for Alliance and Kronk Rustspark for Horde. This includes items that no one really even wants, like the Tuskarr Fishing Net or the now-useless Unsinkable (missions over 90% success chance never sink your ships).

Hi,

This still appears bugged, even after so much time passing. I've tried over and over to unlock this achievement, or am I doing something wrong?

I've completed the quest, didnt get credit and the scroll is now.. well, not letting me interact etc..

This achievement is still bugged at this time (2021January19: Patch 9.0.2). The "Blast Furnace" progress mark does not activate for some players, and because it SHOULD be credited upon completion of A True Naval Commander / A True Naval Commander you must put in a ticket to be able to complete the achievement.

However, you must have all the other blueprints already, or they will not be able to assist you, as they cannot "correct" the error with the Blast Furnace portion, they can only bypass it, once all other requirements are met. Will update this if they fix the bug (again).

Apparently now even Blizzard's support database has an short article on this achievement that tells you to just submit a ticket if you are missing the achievement despite being able to buy all the equipment. I guess that's easier for them than to fix it.

So if you are just missing the Blast Furnace credit from the intro quest, go ahead.

I had problem with this achievement too and opened ticket for it. It was resolved quickly. I got following response, which sheds some light on why it is broken. It seems that this happen only for people who started playing WoW before or during WoD:

Naval Mechanics is indeed broken, and there's a reason for that: the achievement was changed mid-way through back in WoD. In the beginning you had to gather all the equipment on one character. Later, equipment was made account wide. So this confused the achievement for players who started with the gathering of naval equipment before the change. I've now fixed this for you and awarded the achievement.

Tried to complete this achievement yesterday, the only three I had missing were "Unsinkable", "Tuskarr Fising Net" and "Blast Furnace". At my blueprint guy at the shipyard the only ones I couldn't buy were the first two I mentioned; I went and obtained them from Tanaan and then naturally came to Wowhead to see why I didn't have the progress for Blast Furnace, and decided to open a ticket like so many before me!

WOW's repsonse to that ticket?

Now that Blizzard has a support article (https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/19029) addressing the known bug of Naval Mechanics, I submitted a ticket. Unfortunately, the first GM responded with the standard, "we can't help you, check out our support and wowhead guides for help."

Perhaps I was too vague, "I can purchase the equipment blast furnace, but my Achievement Naval Mechanics does not show as completed. Please help. Thanks!"

Perhaps the GM was just a bot. Regardless, I was a bit miffed (especially since the link in the support article directly opens the page to submit tickets), indicated I still had a problem, and resubmitted a ticket.

"Per https://us.battle.net/support/en/article/19029, I am contacting support because while I can purchase Blast Furnace, the achievement Naval Mechanics is not completed. I no longer have the ability to click on the Blast Furnace blueprints at the end of the pier, because I have already learned it. Again, per language in Blizzard's support articles, I am submitting a ticket for assistance."

This received response from a real GM, who granted me the achievement.

I case you are getting guff from Blizz Support when you submit the ticket, resubmit!

Submitted a ticket and a GM contacted me quite soon (next day).
My achievement was finally very quickly fixed.
I wish all Blizzard was like this...

I can confirm. The Blast Furnace part of this achievement is bugged (9.2.5). I wrote a support ticket and a GM rewarded me with the achievement.

How do you know it is bugged for you? If you go to your vendor at the shipyard (Salty Jorren for Alliance) and you can buy the item, then you've already unlocked that part, but it is bugged.

As of Today 9/24/2023 This is still bugged. You have to open a ticket if you are missing Blast Furnace and have the GM give you the achievement. Also worth noting that I had to do this 3 times until I found the correct person to give me the achievement.
