This is Valnaaros from Petopia. After several days of attempts, I was able to get this NPC to spawn. It requires being a Skinner and having 10 points in Bait and 20 in Mastery. I used the bait outside of the ice bear den southwest of Rhonin’s Shield.

There is no guarantee that you can get the purple and green bears to spawn, let alone an ice bear at all. Other beasts native to the area can spawn when you use the bait.

The bait has a 12 hour CD, but if you find a location with plenty of weak beasts to skin, you can make the bait useable again after about 15 minutes. The CD of the bait is reduced by 10-15 (depending on knowledge point investment) per beast skinned.

Been trying to spawn the green version for at least a week now using the bait 4-5 times a day, but I am losing hope. Does it really exist? My purple pair are truly a sight to see but oh my gosh, that green one is my new Invincible grind at the moment. Hope you all have the best of luck getting these beauties, they're worth it!

Take note: I lured an Elusive Grey Elder Rimeclaw, which was level 72 meaning no taming. This could likely happen with all the color variations.

I wonder if another hunter could tame it if you had a friend with skinning. I am currently Alchemy and Engineering but want the cute purple and green bears

Took me 2 days to get the green bear. Day 3 I got another green bear. Day 5 the purple bear FINALLY spawned for me! Good luck!

I have been trying for this bear (the purple one) and the green one for over 2 weeks now. At one point I was using 10+ lures a day. I have gotten 11 bears, every single one was the white bear with black crystals. WARNING for anyone else trying to do this....do NOT max out your bait spec. Doing up to the last small upgrade is great as it takes each skin from 15min to 18min reduction on the bait. If you (like me) max the thing out you will have completely screwed yourself. Once maxed out you can also get a "rare" version of the bears, which will be too high of a level to tame. All it will do is make getting an already impossible pet even harder.

It has been 8 days since I maxed out my bait spec and I have not summoned an elite bear in that entire time. The only things I get now are the random non special mob (Slyvern, Bakar, Moose-thing) or the 72 "rare" bear. I am not sure if this just means I have truly awful luck or if I will no longer be able to spawn in the green and purple bear variants.

tried it today .. leveled my skin profession to 10 on bait and 20 on mastery crafted about 20pcs of the normal bait as everyone said used them all and nothing, no green or purple bear just damn bakar and that winged cat also that buffalo looking beast.. not even a single elite spawned lol...

okay update: i got the purple one first after around 40 normal baits, and got the green one after 60+ baits so they do exist 2days of farming.. good luck everyone! happy hunter here hehe...

hunters looking for the rare pet: IMPORTANT! DO NOT ADVANCE YOUR MASTERY TO 40!
If you do then it will add rares into the mix of things you can summon, further reducing the chance of getting a bear to spawn. (the bears are elites but not rare) making it even more unlikely to get the bears to pop up. So don't do this.

Ok now that that's out of the way let's get the basics down. The Elusive Creature Bait has a chance to spawn various animals related to the area+zone you set it down in. Among the roster of summoned creatures is the Elusive Rimeclaw Bear, which as well as sharing the possibility to spawn with one other elite type and three other non elites- the bear itself can spawn in one of five colors, only two of which are unique: the purple one and the mint green one. So the odds are going to be annoying for most of us.

You need to have a minimum of 10 points in Bait Crafter and 20 points in Mastery in order to make and put down the bait. (note, if you don't invest a minimum of 20 points in mastery, the bear cannot spawn.)

There are no perks you can invest in that will increase the chance of the bears/elites spawning over other mobs. There are, however, perks you can invest in to make things go faster. Namely the Mastery perks at level 25 and 35, which increase the amount of time shaved off of the bait cd for each animal you skin. (up to 20 min per creature) This will drastically reduce your farm time if you have the points to spend on it. Just don't go past 35. There is no benefit to doing so and you don't want to accidentally hit level 40 and ruin your chances.
At first it was taking me 15-20 min to recharge the bait, but once I hit lvl 35 I could recharge the bait every 5 or 6 mins.

Optional: 40 points in the “bait crafter” section will give you double the time reduction on your bait when you skin a rare or elite creature. While this will be a nice bonus if you happen to have it, you wont come across too many creatures fitting the bill and since it costs 40 points to get, it's not worth grinding out if you don't nearly have it already.

If you happen to have friends/guildies/fellow hunters who are also willing to help you, this could go even faster since these mobs can be seen and shared. Just note that they will die and despawn after a few minutes so be careful.

As for the farming and spawning places of choice, I farmed my skins around Camp Nowhere in the Azure Span; focusing on the various dams and farming the beavers and otters in the area since they are all grouped together. I found it faster to just find big groups rather than go farther away looking for hyper spawns. The whole area is good for skinning but if you need a place to start, go here. /way 57.62, 54.22
(note: skinning any of the baby mobs, even if they dont look like babies, will NOT reduce your timer.)

Once my cd was back up, I would make the short flight up to Sylven Plunge, near the Rhonin’s shield FP in order to place my bait. Anywhere near the ice bear cave should do. dont panic if nothing happens for a while, it takes a bit of time for something to show up.
Now, this is most likely just luck of the draw here, but I did start getting more bears to spawn after I started placing my bait at the top of the path/ on top of the cave. (like i think 4 out of 7 baits were bears up there. Probably just luck but still worth a try. ) /way 64.68, 29.19

And that's about it. In parting i will leave you with a rough tally of what it took for me to get one bear of each color.

My ending stats:
Number of baits: 40
Bears seen: 7-8
Unique colors seen: 2 purple, 1 green
Time spent searching: 8 ½- 9 hours

Materials acquired:
2,600 leathers
110 scales
77 dense hide
3 lustrous scaled hide
4 flawless scales
And a whole lot of other misc stuff

I decided I was gonna attempt to get this bear because its purple and I needed it. I spent the day leveling my skinning and then getting the mastery up to 20, however I went all the way to 35. I crafted 1 bait and had one of the Bakars spawn and realized this was gonna be a long farm. So I ran around for like 5minutes killing/skinning all the animals in the area. Got the cd to reset and made a 2nd bait. No joke I fumbled trying to find my trap because the Purple bear spawned and I wasn't expecting it to happen That fast. A random evoker was in combat with it so I kindly asked him to not kill the bear and I was able to tame it when he apologized backing away. So happy to tame it, this pet is truly a beauty and I will now start my farm for the mint green color bear. Goodluck fellow hunters :3

Edit: 7th bait and a 2nd Purple bear spawned. I waited around 2 minutes, kept it trapped trying to give it away to other hunters but the bear just died without being attacked inside of the trap :/

Last Edit: This was honestly not that bad, I got lucky with rng for once but my hunt has now ended. 20th bait dropped and green bear spawned! Happy hunting!
