The Weekly Marmot - Cataclysm Press Event
So much to talk about! This week I narrowly squeak by inside Youtube's 11-minute limit to bring you my thoughts and speculations on the massive amount of information Blizzard released at the recent Press Event. I hope you're ready for a lot of talkingreallyfastsoicanbesuretogeteverythingin!
If you haven't seen the info I'm talking about in this video yet, it's available
right here on Wowhead

Naxxramas' Thaddius Encounter Remade in Starcraft II
Move over Cataclysm (at least, for now) -
Starcraft II
is on its way! While not all Warcraft fans are Starcraft fans, I think more than a few of you may find this interesting:
Naxxramas
'
Thaddius
encounter remade as a single-player scenario in Starcraft II! Created with the Starcraft II Galaxy Map Editor released a few months ago, this campaign brings a group of noble Terran in to face one of World of Warcraft's least "noob-friendly" encounters, complete with intense
Polarity Shift
action! Blizzard showed off an incredibly impressive demonstration of the Galaxy Map Editor's power back at last year's BlizzCon, and so far beta participants have created some pretty interesting Starcraft II custom scenarios (like
Supply Depot Tetris
). Check out the video after the break!

The Weekly Marmot - Keyboard Turning
This week, I peer into the deepest, darkest corners of the World of Warcraft to observe the elusive keyboard turner in his native environment. Why exactly is turning with the keyboard so bad?
From there, I give some tips on how to cure yourself of keyboard turning, and even give some examples of when keyboard turning
might
be okay! Brace yourselves, we're getting into some real basics here...

So... I Managed to Ninja APB Beta Access
This game is nothing at all what I thought it would be. It plays like GTA, but progresses like BF, CoD, etc. This is just the first part, I'm still piecing together part two and waiting for open beta to be released to monitor any changes to gameplay (something about a free-for-all server?).
Anyways, here's what I got so far.. lots and lots of ridiculously over-the-top customization..
For those that were in beta, what do you guys think of it's classification as an MMOFPS? Are we too used to the genre standard being a lobby based social area with instanced arena combat (Huxley, Global Agenda, Etc) to allow wiggle room for a game like this?

BFF Report Episode 29: Guide to Cataclysm Pre-Launch Events
By now many of you have seen the BFF Report, but did any of you know that before I got sucked into this never ending cycle of reviewing craptastic games, I was an
accomplished
WoW
player
? Sure, I may not have started out by playing the game as it was intended, but I did eventually manage to make it to the (LOL)end. And it's a good thing too, because now, this bald, creepy, pale white gnome is going to be
your
guide through
Cataclysm
beta... assuming I can get my hands on a key that is.
Unfortunately, for now all I can offer is a spoiler laden walkthrough of the two pre-launch events that are currently on the available on the PTR... and some RUN DMC.

The Weekly Marmot - Raiding With a Life
Hello, Wowhead! I'm devomorph, also known as
Lore
over at
TankSpot
. I make the Weekly Marmot, a weekly video show in which I give tips and tricks, talk about current issues, and otherwise discuss the World of Warcraft. Thanks to the magic of the internet and our new friends at Wowhead, I'll be bringing it to you here as well!
So, you've got a busy schedule. Work, family, friends, whatever it is, you've just got too much on your hands to possibly have any time to get into raiding. That's just for the guys who can afford to spend 40 hours a week in front of their PC, right?
Well, maybe not. This week I take a look at the actual time commitments necessary to participate in a successful raiding guild, and what you can do to get started and fit it into your busy life. Check it out, you might be surprised!

Our Real Life "Adventures" Spotlighted in Avatar Days
So a particularly unique World of Warcraft machinima video was linked to me this morning, and I believe that it stands out so much from the typical game-themed videos that I wanted to share it with you guys.
Avatar Days
is a short film completed by a small group of talented Dublin residents, several of which are World of Warcraft players just like you and I. The video follows short "day in the life of" sequences which are each narrated by a different player, with his avatar performing the various, mundane tasks of the daily lives which many of us follow. This film was completed in an astonishing four days in entry for Ireland's
Darklight Film Festival
. Check it out for yourselves - it's interesting to stop, think and realize just how many World of Warcraft players are out there in that "real world."

BFF Report Episode 28: Heroes of Newerth vs League of Legends
Is anyone shocked that developers are trying to cash in on the massive success of the Warcraft 3 mod/map, DotA? I suppose there is that sweet spot in time where you can offer a game that is pretty much a straight copy with updated graphics, a dash of new features, a pinch of support, and still be accepted as something
new
and
refreshing
(I'm looking at you, BeatHazard).
In this episode of the BFF Report, I got to checkout the two newest heavy hitter entries into the MOBA genre,
League of Legends
(F2P) and
Heroes of Newerth
($30 retail). Is either one worthy of being crowned the unofficial successor of DotA? Are you gonna pass and wait for the SC2 mod? Bloodline Champions? Do you like cookies?

BFF Report Rummages Through Steam's Indie Bin
After months of heated debate and seventeen riveting
Hungry Hungry Hippos
face-offs,
Malgayne
has finally granted access for yours truly to post BFF Report episodes here on the lovely Wowhead Blog. And, while it may have cost me twenty big-toe massage sessions and my dignity, I'm proud to have finally made it to this stage in my life. Now to the meat and healthy carbohydrates portion of this week's post...
Last week I took it upon myself to dig through the dollar(ish) bin in the XBOX Live market and left all you PC gamers mildly unsatisfied. As a result, I've turned my focus to Steam in hopes to find something indie, cheap and worthy of my precious in-between-MMOs time... which I apparently have had ample amounts of these past few weeks!
btw shoutouts to the homiez.. StephX2, Sinjn, Nanu, Sopheak, Facundo the Small, Mel, JB, br0, (Atax) and biym Math...#1

BFF Report Episode 26: XBox Live Indie Games!
So, since we're very pointedly NOT talking here on the blog about all the leaked
Cataclysm info
, we'd better come up with something else to keep you occupied, eh?
Fortunately,
Mike B. AKA Fony
is here to save the day! In this week's episode of the
BFF Report
, Fony examines some of the worst Xbox Live Indie titles to ever grace the gaming world.

BFF Report Episode 24: Farmville?
A little while ago,
The Escapist
held a showdown for game developers called
March Mayhem
. Those of you who participated may have noticed that our beloved
Blizzard
made it precisely as far in the standings as...
Zynga
?
This week,
Mike B aka Fony
takes us into the deep, dark depths of Facebook gaming to teach us what this whole
Farmville
thing is all about!
Live
BFF Report Episode 23: StarCraft 2!
In all the excitement about
Cataclysm

Fortunately,
Mike B aka Fony
hasn't—he's been busily crunching away at the SC2 Beta, and he has the 1 - 14 win/loss record to show for it!

You've Seen CES Coverage—Now See the OTHER Convention Footage
So ZAM has been posting coverage of the
CES
convention this yeah, but those who have attended (and some who haven't) know that on that particular weekend in Las Vegas, there are
two
conventions—CES, and the
Adult Entertainment Expo
, or
AEE
. So basically the whole weekend is a celebration of the two things that 18-34 year old males like best.
So of course,
Mike B aka Fony
couldn't resist the temptation to pay the AEE a little visit. For those of you who are interested (which I suspect is more of you than would otherwise let on), you can find the video here:

Please note: While the video is strictly PG, it's still probably not the kind of thing you want to be watching at work.

The Lich King is Still Alive...
I know,
WoW.com
caught this a little while ago, but I couldn't help it. I'm sure there's many other YouTube connoisseurs out there who have come to love and appreciate the hilarious Warcraft
machinima videos of Mike Spiff Booth
(aka
spiffworld
), but I wanted to draw attention to his latest video release!
What better machinima could exist than one combining two of the most evil and sinister villains in recent gaming history, our beloved (yeah, right)
Lich King
and
Portal
's
GLaDOS

BFF Report Episode 15: Mass Effect 2!
I know, another off-topic post—but I can't be the only person who's incredibly excited about
Mass Effect 2
.
Mass Effect 2 is an upcoming RPG from
BioWare
, makers of Knights of the Old Republic (and the upcoming MMO, The Old Republic), as well as Dragon Age: Origins (the last game I pulled an all nighter on).
So I know it's not WoW, but no self-respecting RPG fan would miss our friend Fony taking us through a sneak peek!

TankSpot Making...a Feature-Length Film?
Apparently one of our friends at
TankSpot
are planning a WoW-themed documentary project called
The Raid
.
This is a really interesting concept to me—obviously one that strikes very close to home, but beyond that I've always been really interested in the places that gaming and culture connect. They've set up a page on
KickStarter
in the hopes of gathering some funding in the form of donations.
If you're interested in hearing more about the project, you can check out their page here:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/84946011/the-raid-promo
Or you can read the blurb after the break. I really encourage you to check this out—gamers are never going to be understood by the mainstream media unless we take the first step. They also have a fan page on Facebook which you can find
here
.
