I say it here and I say it now. You can quote me later. The story of Sylvanas will end where the story of the Jailor ends. As a cosmical force, like Saregeras, the Jailor can't be destroyed, but his plans like the crusade of Sargeras will come to an end. Sylvanas will be instrumental in the Jailors fall and will die in the process.
Art team deserves a raise for carrying the game for years
What utter tripe.A pretty scene does not cover the absolutely woeful writing. For literally twenty-plus years they've characterised Sylvanas as one way, and now they're changing the entire universe to ensure their ham-fisted redemption arc-a plot that is so transparently done for their own gratification, not the fans- makes sense. A setting that breaks to ensure Mary Suevanas isn't characterised as a genocidal, death-worshipping maniac, whilst condemning the faults of Garrosh and Arthas in the same breath...it feels like a fever dream, it's so laughable. This has the exact same vibe as Season 8 Game of Thrones, where "expectations subverted!" became its own meme, as if the very act of not doing what the audience expected-or wanted- somehow elevates itself into great writing. It doesn't: it's a naked bout of fanservice that does no-one (not Blizzard, Warcraft or even the characters) the smallest bit of good. It adds nothing to the narrative (except, perhaps, that victims of abuse do not deserve justice (which, given the companies current issues, is absolutely yikes) and that people should just live and let live) and it serves no purpose, except to butcher beloved characters for literally no reason. Can anyone actually tell me who has come off better in Shadowlands? Who has gained from it narratively? Who has evolved? Who has changed, and grown new layers as a character in a way that feels organic and natural? The answer is pretty much no-one. Zovaal is a boring one-dimensional evil overlord, who might as well be reading from a list. Denathrius has been fridged for future use (perhaps?) and was effectively done with in the opening patch. Most of the 'heroes' sat around scratching their rears in Oribos for most of the expansion. Bolvar got humiliated by Sylvanas and effectively neutered after two expansions of being vaguely interesting in the background. Anduin will most likely not change much at all after being turned into an Arthas clone. Tyrande will get yet another lecture about not letting "revenge" (or justice) go to her head, and her Night Warrior arc got practically aborted. And we'll most likely see none of the newly introduced characters after Shadowlands, given the reception of it. Meaning, much like Warlords, we're left with an expansion full of interesting ideas and horrid execution of them. One to be brushed under the rug and forgotten about as soon as possible, to pretend Blizzard didn't waste its potential.Kind of makes me sad: after BFA I didn't think the narrative could get any worse. Yet here it is.Well, at least Legion emerged from WoD. Maybe we'll get another revival similar to that after Shadowlands is done.
lol Baine.... I just love how everyone including herself hates her. I see the point of Uther and Bolvar, of course, but it's not quite easy to just forgive and forget. We all knew she would come back, but let's see if after we save Anduin everything will be just fine handy dandy love and rainbows, or if this new Sylvanas will actually "pay for her crimes". Hoping we don't just pet her in the head and go "aw that other banshee was not you" and hug each other.
Impressive cinematic! Kudo to the writers, animators, voice actors and everyone else involved! When Shadowlands hit, we finally got a lot of the missing parts of a story that started long ago... Jailer has been influencing things for quite some time & for that, can almost feel sorry for those that enacted his will. I never played the pre-WoW games, so my knowledge of Arthas is limited & yet, even though Sylvanas did the unthinkable by burning Teladrasil, I'm more likely to forgive her than Arthas. Personal opinion, either way, looking forward to 9.2!
Well I feel nothing but slight irritation, no surprises here. The story was bad for so long that the only way to make it relevant is to deck off significant part of the old cast, Sylvanas included. Otherwise their previous erratic actions will taint all impression moving forward.
Long live the Ranger General. I really hope the Windrunner sisters can reunite and kick some butt.
Good looking cinematic, but as the saying goes, "you can polish a turd til it shines but it's still a turd"
epic moment
She won't die but probably replace the Jailer. Going along the lines of "there must always be a Lich King"...probably always have to be a jailer. It's a way for her to be punished but work towards a greater good redemption/job. Still condemned but taking care of the souls as they should be
Ok, this is something I can totally support. I really like this. It makes far more sense now. Not being sarcastic or anything. In one hand I have hated Sylvannas for what she had become, but on the other she was a character I have always loved since W3. Still not sure I want to see her get a full redemption, but... I like this.
I thought that would happen too, but take a look at the names of the chapters in the next campaign.
This looks great, and I like the idea of her having to come to terms with what she's done and facing consequences for it. Much better instead of automatic forgiveness
I hope Sylvanas finds redemption.
I do NOT want to sympathize with Sylvanas.I do *NOT* want to symapthize with Sylvanas. Dammit. WHY am I sympathizing with Sylvanas? *wipes tears*
Cinematics team once again Delivers quality! :)
This looks really good. Story also seems ok to me but I'm not super into the story in general. They should have this style of cinematics more often
"we cannot change the past, and perhaps cant find forgiveness in the future. but inaction damns us all" very key words for Blizzard in these dark days. But seriously i enjoyed this, an am happier that other people seem to enjoy it. Nothing really dooms my happiness than when people hate/complain about it
