Lol, people who says that this is irrevelant because at the end of WoD you didn't see it coming... 50 or more years passed! Compare that to what happened in Azeroth during this time. Let's say you would leave Azeroth during time when Arthus was knighted in Stormwind... would you believe back then that in a next few years he will turn into murderous psycopath who eventually will become next Lich King? I guess not. Same here with Yrel. Maybe she was possesed by the light. We saw in WoW lore already that light isn't good. It's only opposite to the void which isn't good either.
As lot of people say here, the ones that don't agree with this "plot twist" forget that +20 years (at the very least) have passed. Gromm is old, Durotan and Draka had a daughter (I don't remember a hint on that during WoD either like Draka getting pregnant or something) I mean, it's f*cking +20 years, even Geya'rah says that the first years after the Legion got defeated were good years of peace and cooperation between Orcs and Draenei, so it's pretty clear it wasn't like we left and the next day Draenei went full ISIS regarding the Light and "teaching their peaceful ways...by force!" sort of thing. It's the same as our timeline, lots of things have happened in a 20-30 year timespan, just imagine all the things Alleria and Turalyon learned about everything that happened during their absence... now imagine we're the Alleria and Turalyon of AU Draenor, we left that timeline and we come back at least +20 years after we defeated Archimonde.
Some people seem convinced this storyline makes no sense as there were never any indications Yrel and the AU Draenei were susceptible to such antagonistic behavior. Well, I argue the same was true for Garrosh and every Orc who sided with him over the rest of the Horde a few expansions back. What Alliance players feel they’re going through with Yrel isn’t all that different than what Horde players had to go through with Garrosh. In Cataclysm, he showed signs of maturing, becoming a wise leader, learning from those who came before him, growing into his shoes and all that. Then in MoP that was all discarded and he became obsessed with his personal views of “purity” for the world. It looks like Yrel has succumbed to a similar level of fanaticism in a similar manner. Ultimately two leaders we had faith in and saw progress in a good way only to fall to corruption largely off-screen, and we step in to clean up their mess in-game.Frankly this isn’t the first time Blizzard has shown us heroes sworn to service to the Holy Light can succumb to fanaticism beyond the point of what can be considered morally just. The Scarlet Crusade remains a prime example, just not on the scale to threaten an entire world. As a Horde player who saw Yrel’s progression in WoD of course I’m surprised and saddened to see her become another villain, but ultimately it is consistent with Blizzard’s writing. She’s essentially the Garrosh of the AU timeline, the main difference being while he aspired to “racial purity”, she aspires to “religious purity.” This also expands upon what was alluded to with X’era in Legion, that some more militant Naaru are willing to force the Light on people against their will. Turalyon was willing to stand by and let X’era bend Illidan to her vision of what was “just”, so we also know devotees in service to the Naaru specifically aren’t always opposed to controversial or even darker methods to achieve their goals.Ultimately while this is a sad turn of events on AU Draenor given the promising future we left for that world and everyone in it, it’s definitely an intriguing one from a lore enthusiast standpoint in my humble opinion. It warrants further investigation in-game, and I look forward to seeing it. Plus avenging AU Durotan is now on my list of things to do.
Just a reminder for people who comment Mag'har scenario and AU Draeneis, they are not part of the Alliance as well as technically Mag'har orcs aren't part of the Horde untill you recruit them (they were separated for 35 years and they thought that they will never see anyone from our universe again) while Sylvanas, who commited some really bad things, is chieftain of the Horde, so anyway it is still very much like this: Horde = bad, Alliance = good in this expansion ...and nontheless Eradar joined Sargaras on their own, so we could see what they are able to do
Evil alliance heroes this is agreat day even if they play a minor role it shatters that pain in the ass facade that has been around since cata making them look like paragons of good.
Once again ... Lightbound Draenei and Mag'har orcs on AU Draenor are not part of the Alliance or horde, they were separated from our universe for 35 years and they thought that they will never see us again, so comments like Alliance is bad because of this scenario aren't valid. Alliance did some really bad things in tha past but in comparison it is way behind the Horde in number of atrocitiesAnd one question ... How is she Sylvanas any different than Lightbound apart from that they are doing it for the Light?
The real question is how viable is a Mag'har sided with the light "paladin" going to be.
So, the Naaru became the Ori of Warcraft, then made Yrel and her followers their Priors whose mission is to convert others willingly or forcefully to the Light, or face annihilation.LOVE IT! HALLOWED ARE THE NAARU!
Honestly the orcs deserve that. We've seen time and again that they actually want to murder/enslave others (especially draenei), so why shouldn't the draenei try to save themselves?
Let's forget all the talk about how Yrel is a fanatic and all that and focus on the actual important thing: Lantresor is still kicking ass.
This confirms that the Mag’har Orcs won’t have a little hub area :(
Can I just say, seems entirely moronic that we'd go to all the effort of going back to an AU to find Mag'har when they literally still live in Outland
The Mag'har in outland are not as varied as the ones in AU. AU has a bunch of clans. The Mag'har in outland? Very few of them. Mag'har in outland are boring and quite frankly very bland storyline wise. In game that is. The mag'har in outland only have 1 clan essentially, they all look the same and are just brown orcs. The Mag'har from AU have skins that match every major clan in AU. Tattoos, bone piercings, ritual scarring etc.
