Argh! I'm really conflicted about this...On one hand, Rift looks awesome - updated graphics (WoW's Human models are disgraceful), more character customization than you can shake a stick at, etc. etc.On the other hand, I don't want to shell out for the full game for something that could die in 6 months - will there be a big enough community to ensure that I'm not going to be alone(ish) in the Rift servers? And of course, with the huge investments I've made for my WoW characters (I finally going to hit Grand Master Engineering, yay!), it would seem a tad.. wasteful.
I paid money to Wowhead to read about WoW news, not Rift news, or EQ news, or any-other-MMO news. This is starting to get really irritating. Is there a refund button?
Technically you paid ZAM. ;-)
While rift is pretty neat looking I'm going to hold off on swapping over to them. Though if it does go Free To Play (could be) I'd give it a shot.
I tried Rift on the last Beta week, and I must say it was quite impressive. The rifts and public quests are impressive, and the character customization is awesome. It is great to be able to make a warrior with a pet, a rogue tank, mage healer, etc. I have some questions about the pvp as my rogue was not able to come close to killing healers, but then I didn't really know how to play him. Also, the way Trion is listening to the users and adapting on the fly is amazing. As soon as my tax check comes in, I'll be giving it a go.As for the guy saying he didn't want to invest in a game that may be gone in 6 months, just think of it like the console games. Most console games are about 60 bucks at launch and you are done playing them after a month or two, so it is the same thing.
I predict RIFT will be the next Aion.ie. Failing to become more like WoW than WoW is.
Except Rift isn't a straight grindfest. It's very rewarding to multiple playstyles, has endgame content already ready to go, more in development already, has devs that listen to players, and responds to issues very quickly. So, it's nothing like Aion.
Ok, I just gave in and pre-ordered the CE..... *girly squeal*11 hours to go - cannot wait! First game in a loooooooooong time to actually get me excited about it, so that's saying a lot for me (I don't get excited about much to be honest)...I'm thinking of my Elementalist/Stormcaller combo again, quite enjoyed that in Beta.
I loved the Rift beta and was ready to make the switch. Until I ran into a problem posting on the forums and after four days still haven't received a reply email from their customer service on how to fix it (Blizzard has never taken more than three days to reply to me, and I mean the actual reply, not the auto-generated message). Sorry, but if Trion wants my money, they'll have to step up their game in the customer service department.
