There is a debuff you get when dying to him called "Death Penalty", so the release timer is definitely intended.That being said, my timer was 180 seconds which is only 3 minutes. Has it been raised?
Fought him Last night I think it was before bed. He was a fun fight I survived our 40man 90% of them wiped. Sadly I got no loot but was dropping decent ilvl.
my only real issue with mortanis is the spine crawl effect being basically invisible under all the player skeletons - id like to see it have some vertical particles to make it visually clearerthe death timer is interesting. like a new take on the ol' azuregos "mark of frost" mechanic to prevent corpse run zerging tactics. i expect people to complain enough that blizzard will remove it though lol
Don't forget you are probably dying on the way to and from the boss, as he spawns inside the house of the chosen, so you have to make your way through elites and large packs of mobs that hit hard. You normally stealth around them for the world quest but with everyone just charging in on mounts pulling everything the dogs will pull you out of stealth if you were trying to be sneaky and use the stealth buff from the world quest to get to the boss. If a dog that is chasing someone else runs over you it pulls you out of stealth.

This is incorrect, you get the standard 6 mins until release (which is auto release) but you can manually release after the 180 second “Death Penalty” debuff expires.
Well, if you release on the boss and aren't near when he dies, you don't get credit for the world quest and thus no loot. This has been an issue that has plagued us for three expansions now. Maybe this is Blizzard's Band-Aid for it until they can figure something else out?
Is it just me, or is this just a slightly updated Lord Marrowgar model? Even the axe is the same.
fought him yesterday right after servers went up and the lag was crazy. Died once and it let me release and run back and keep fighting. might be luckiest drop for me ever. I got the epic ilvl 200+ bracers, epic iLvl 190+ conduit (my best one), the legendary memory, and the epic anima reward for the world quest reward. Was crazy.
I joined a WQ group for this via group finder and it lagged as when i phased. totally died and was over a minute into that death penalty debuff before the boss even phased in. Not my favorite boss encounter to be sure.
I was able to release and he died on my way back, got the loot but not the quest completion. had to do it again. And I flew back to madraxxus from oribos, got stuck mid air at the landing then TP very high in Oribos and fell to get TP again at the town portals lol.
The 6 min release timer is automatic world wide, and unrelated to the world boss fight.The world boss fight had a 3 minute timer preventing you from rezzing similar to locking out rez during a raid boss fight.Once the 3 minutes have passed you can release and run back in ghost form, and will still get automatic loot even when dead HOWEVER it did not complete the WQ reward so I had to do the fight twice. FYI this type of fight is exactly what the Spectral Speed potion is excellent for as it doubles your ghostly speed.If you do die and the boss is almost dead, do not release! While you still get the loot, you do not get the kill credit for the WQ reward.
This article is false. I died during the fight and it DID NOT give me quest credit. I had to wait for a whole new spawn.
This fight was a nightmare yesterday. We went from a nearly empty zone to a thousand people all of a sudden phasing in to fight the boss and the lag got so bad that I died and it took 3 minutes for the death to catch up to me. Then we all got disconned and reset.Second time around, the fight went better but I died and had to wait until the timer ran down... because when the fight ended, none of the survivors were willing or capable of performing rezzes. Nope, lots of loot and leave while the rest of us ran back.Thanks, everyone. I mean, no one expects teamwork or strategy for a world boss anyway, so penalize the players just a little more, right?
I showed up to an in progress kill yesterday. I had no idea that he had adds - there was a mass of players and so much lag that stuff was not loading in. Apparently i did tag him but I was really not sure until I got my anima and no loot.They really need to consider the open world nature of world bosses. I know in a month or so the lag Tuesday morning will be manageable but the design should not exacerbate it this much.
