This years MDI has been one of the most boring I've watched so far, while the UI keeps getting better the prduction quality is still terrible with someone bashing their keyboard through the entire first run and other problems you wouldnt get on something like a League or Dota tourny.
They definitely need to do something with Shadowmeld. I don't care if its a nerf specific to the tournament realm, but having a racial that acts as a Vanish is completely stupid, and its killing diversity. As it is, no class will be considered unless they can play NE except under very specific circumstances. It's gotta go, so every class can actually be considered. Also, the idea of having the MDI set to the affixes that just happen to be up on that week seems really lame to me. I don't want to watch every single run on the same affixes. I like to see the players play on different sets of affixes, to see how they handle them, so I can learn to play them better myself. Having the entire MDI played on one set of affixes feels like it would be a lot more stale.
Is this dude seriously asking for an iconic racial ability to get nerfed just for this niche e-sport that most players dont watch or play?
Simplier solution, just add spec bans and picks. Each team bans and picks a tank spec, a healer spec and 3 dps specs, and then teams get some time to prepare their characters and plan the run. Add a clause that you can only have 1 Char of each race and you're done.
the people who run these mdi and arena tournaments maybe need to think that their product is not fun to watch, im not sure if the audience they get is enough for thembut meh watching the same thing over and over again, same classes, same specs, same races even, same routes, same thing happening in pvp i guess\well i pass
I don't get your point, The article specificaly notes that People who plays MDI aren't playing what they find fun, but playing the FotM classes, with picks/bans you are forcing theese professional players to at least learn and Master 3 or 4 different classes, hell, even ad a clause that if 2 specs are banned, the 3rd one can't be, forcing even more strategies to be opened. And again, they are professional players who practice runs over and over to get to a point where The level of play is so unnatural it brings more harm than goods to the rest of community. The biggest issue with MDI isn't that it's boring to watch, it's that it is boring to watch the same comp over and over...
I also want to +1 that nerfing Shadowmeld for the 99% of us that don't use it in a competitive setting would be a terrible idea on Blizzard's part. They already set special tournament rules for MDI, so simply add some sort of Shadowmeld rule to that list. Also, MDI is a competition, so everyone is going to min/max it to death because that is the point - beat the other team. On live, you're just competing against yourself and a timer - the vast majority of groups aren't going to use a shadowmeld comp. For example, you already have the Chinese groups that have been doing keys at +23 and higher without a 5man Shadowmeld team. Not to mention the majority of the competitive player base resides on Horde, as has been made clear xpac after xpac with the Cutting Edge Hall of Fame.If they are really concerned about live, it's not like they can't change it or disable it in specific instance settings. They already modify abilities for pvp instances - I'm pretty sure they can set it to realize a player is inside a M+ dungeon if they cared.(I still think a change would be dumb, but just want to point out that they already do this without breaking specific abilities for everyone.) Just like they could have kept past racials the same like Torrent or Every Man and modified them in specific settings.
I love the idea that people would stop playing night elves without shadowmeld. They could turn Arcane Torrent into "does 20% of your maximum health in damage to yourself" and people would still play blood elves. Elves will always be playable. Mechagnomes have some of the best racials in the game and no one plays them because they look awful. If Shadowmeld needs to be nerfed, nerf it. If Arcane Torrent or Berserking or, idk, Vulpera Saddlebags needs to be nerfed, nerf them. Do what's best for the game, not for marketing.
To be honest, it's extremely unfair to judge racials (shadowmeld) or covenants by MDI where on the tournament realm you can swap freely, meanwhile in the actual game you're more or less stuck with your race and covenant. You can have situations like "oh on MDI they played Kyrian Night Elf Hunter? So what, I'm still stuck with my Troll Night Fae hunter because I can't freely swap, and that one is best for raids". If they want to nerf Shadowmeld, how about they nerf Berserking too, vast majority of top end raiders are Trolls, except maybe pet classes that benefit more from Orc racial. And the fact there are covenant-based dungeon buffs, but MDI teams can just swap at will to a premade character with correct covenant is a spit to the face to the playerbase who actually have to choose a covenant and can't swap it freely between dungeons.
