A lot of people think the Void Elves are lore-less and were a rushed race. However my thoughts are that they are new both in-game and lore-wise. Because of this the lore is still being written for them. The quest leading to them contains a lot of the lore needed to explain why they are what they are. I feel that there is enough to explain them, but that because there isn’t any established lore for a long period people are put off. I just hope that they aren’t put aside and that Umbric is a major player in the stories coming forward. We need to see all of the allied races make a statement in the game to establish them, otherwise they will literally feel as just a reskin and nobody will care for them as a race.

Have to admit I'm a little confused as to how the alliance is healing anything in Silithus. It literally ends the same for horde and alliance sofar and we know everyone's going to fight for it in BFA. Leaves me puzzled.At any rate. A friend told me "Void elves are like what Dan is to a Street fighter roster. There to fill out space and be a copy of somebody else but with a gimmick that can break the balance on it's knees." I dunno if the spell casting pushback is that bad. Void elves do feel like a little bit of a cop-out when you already had high elves being alliance already. But maybe they got other plans for high elves? Do we really need more elves?Not that I mind, I play an elf, but I think we're over out elf quota here.
I think they are afraid to put high elves on a side. You have a few in silvermoon as High Elf Pilgrims and you also have the Highborne in Teldrassil, so both being basically the same race and both heavily fought over they decided that neither cane have them and instead gave each the Void Elf (basically one but void if you look at the starting VElf zone there are High Elf Scholars so if you’re a High Elf or Blood Elf you choose that yourself in your own head) and Nightborne (basically one but nightwell changed)If either ended up with a High Elf or Highbourne I think there would be a riot, so this was the closest they could get I think without angering either side dramatically

Blizzard had the big opportunity to introduce High Elves for Alliance as playable race and wasted it with these Void elves. They got 5 minutes of Lore and they became a playable race. Seems like a joke but its not. Sad.
No one has yet to be able to give a definitive explanation of how void elves are any different than shadow priests. SPs have been harnessing the power of the void since, well, the beginning. Where were the VEs? That entire storyline of Alleria’s in-game felt like a joke playing as a SP. Like, “....um, hey.... I may know a thing or two about this new toy you just found. And by the way, I could’ve cleansed that na’ru instead of destroy it...” To me, it just feels like SPs became a race. A very rushed race that was invented to finally give the Alliance the blood elves they’ve always wanted since TBC. I just don’t see any fundamental difference in terms of how they perceive and use the void. The lore that I’ve come to love as playing a SP seems to now be wasted on this half-baked concept. An entire spec was built on the fundamental thing that now apparently belongs to one race.
I always laugh about "grey morality". Oh, cruel hellish immoral Light don't let the poor Void devour and enslave all universe! What a shame. Maybe I'm too old-fashioned, but I think talking about grey morality in these conditions is ridiculous.
I appreciate the interest and attention paid to the lore, but good lord is that ridiculous voice/inflection really necessary?
It Still doesnt make sense though, at worse they would have told these void elves to leave the city, not the whole faction. Lord knows they would have just as easily set up shop in Undercity and had a good time. The concerns for the sunwell are real. No one bats an eye when the warlocks and the druids practice their magics for their factions in separate spaces because cross contamination would be bad for both. Yet the Blood Elves worried about the '~SUNWELL~' not being contaminated by the darkness of the void is somehow a slight? That's poor writing. There are so many better ways they could have gotten here yeesh.
Surprised they didn't mention the Void Shardling. Clearly the best companion pet for a Void Elve :)
TL;DR: Alleria did a thing. Here's Blood Void Elves for reasons. I love the new allied races, but this one felt very tacked on at the end and the only reason we got all that juicy Ethereal and Void speculation hype was to make a reason for this. I really hope that there is going to be some reprecussions for Alleria's actions and it's not just left on the pile of unanswered questions in WoW lore.
Void elves are very forced, literally happened at the last patch of the expansion, Turalyon and Alleria aren't much better because of their long absence (and not very well presented in haste, I might add). I understand that they want the first ally races to be related to Legion, but Void Elves are young even by the standard of other new races.Nightborne joining the Horde has at least their connection with the Blood Elves in terms of survival and addiction to magic, and conflicts with the Night Elves, what exactly do Void Elves have, aside from a long gone character who suddenly reemerge as a Void expert out of the blue, and somehow discovered other Void users in Silvermoon? This Void Elf population must be lower than even the Night Elves in vanilla lore. And why Elves? There are shadow priests in many races and somehow it just have to be another type elf, to conveniently tie up with an underdeveloped Alleria. For crying out loud, they could've lay out clues and hints about Void Elves way before Alleria, Void Elf is quite likely a last minute change, and a coarse one.It's unfortunate that Vrykul aren't particularly affiliated with either side, and they are also more Horde like. If they join the Horde instead of Nightborne Alliance would be stuck with TWO elven races instead. Regardless, I dislike the Void Elves as much as Naruu and the re-tuned Draenei lore in BC, because they were created to add shaman into Alliance side, and lore shouldn't be twisted to justify awkward newcomers.
I still believe the Nightborne should be Alliance in the place of Void Elves.
