The current loot system gets rid of the downsides of master looter but brings the downsides of personal loot. Blizz is never going to get it right where item level is king, so making a system where it forces you to keep those items is annoying as @#$%. The difference is that before, if you had a bad master looter experience, you find new people and move on. But you cant do that currenlty because blizz is the bad experience here. Its frustrating that they dont know how to design loot in a way they want, but they constrain us in the way they want loot to behave. At the beginning of bfa im pretty sure I made a ticket that changed their webpage about personal loot. At the start of bfa it expained the item level bit about loot, and then said that weapons worked slightly different in that you had to previously have a same/higher item level SPEC SPECIFIC item in order to trade the same. (so if im a boomkin and a boss drops a really good monk staff for my friend i cant just switch loot spec and give them the staff unless i already have a similar/higher one, which is unlikely if i dont play that spec. well the webpage had no mention whatsoever that trinkets also functioned like weapons, so when i couldn't my buddy a trinket i was confused/upset. After a bit of back and forth with a GM, they just said "sorry but no" and then promptly changed the website to include trinkets with weapons.Master looter had its problems, but you immediately knew the problem, personal loot has a bunch of hidden mechanics that are incredibly annoying and frustrating to deal with, especially considering that blizz does a really awful job of explaining how it works.
Arguments for master loot are only valid for 3 types of guilds: 1) people who are in top 100 mythic guilds and are scraping for every advantage they can get to get the raid tier over with (obviously for this purpose everyone knows what they signed up for and most likely don't care about what loot they personally get)2) huge guild cliques who lasted for years without disbanding and not many fresh blood coming in to complain about loot distribution3) mysterious people who "don't care about loot and raid for fun" which people like preach are arguing about.Imagine if mythic didn't drop any loot but was somehow still balanced for progression, those same players would lose their @#$% instantlyIn other cases it's either CE guilds who really don't need to distribute their gear to "right" people, guilds that don't fully clear mythic or heroic / family guilds. In those guilds master loot has no place. It is definitely getting abused left and right, people who argue against that are either delusional or part of loot council (who coincidentally get all the loot, no idea how that happens really)."Just join other guild lol" doesn't work either, because it's a coin toss to get into a guild who doesn't abuse ever living *!@# out of it, considering most guilds have a genius 2 week unpaid internship to go along with it, leaving couple of those in a row after getting zero loot might really cause some players (me included) to simply unsub. And no, you can't just join one guild and stay forever. Some people swap servers / sub for less than half the time. Are they not allowed to raid mythic? Apparently so.Seeing how aggressive people are about this just makes me think those are the ones who deny people loot, just screw them. Wow is better with personal loot, thanks for reading my wall of text idk why I even bothered to type this.
My only gripe with personal loot is the way it interacts with transmog. As a druid I can use both kinds of maces, polearms, staves, daggers, and fists. Problems arise when any of those weapons have strength, or the one handed weapons have agility. They WILL not drop for me even though I can equip and mog them under the current rules.
Personal loot decreased loot drama so I consider it a huge success. The removal of titanforging and war forging is going to make it work even better in SL.
Personal Loot is Master LootThe person who gets said loot, decides if they want to keep it or trade it (within the restrictions in place that comes with PL)
man yall can't come up with good content and you do articles like this? I'd expect something like this pre bfa not when bfa is over... like really.

All it is is a different coat of paint with BETTER chances of getting something. Six items drop, and you get three chances at it (organic drop, bonus roll, generous other player). Compare that to before personal loot where you got organic drops only. Personal loot was the best thing to happen, even though the pity gold sucks just as much as getting nothing. Also, as other patricians have noted, the ilvl requirement for trading is the last annoyance that needs to go. That item with trash stats I got is NOT better than what I have, and my friend deserves it more than the vendor gold I got since I literally had no use for it. Objective fact. Sure people will abuse it, but the limit is more hurtful to everyone than it is helpful to...well, anyone. Now, if the legacy loot rule was available regardless of how old content is, that'd be nice. BfA is about to be legacy content by the end of the year (assuming no delays), but like Legion before it, we're probably getting personal loot again. LEGACY content should have LEGACY loot rules. Period.
Agreed. Remove the arbitrary restriction of requiring an equivalent or higher item lvl piece in that slot. Allow us to freely trade any drops, period.Getting loot that you don't need but can't trade SUCKS.
i really wish they would just make all loot tradable if there going to stick with personal loot. i have no real problem with it other than trying to help guildies who have spent 8+ weeks of killing the same boss and they still dont have the 1 drop they need off them but you cant because their drop is a weapon and it isnt your main spec so if you get it it is the highest ilvl for that spec and your unable to trade it same for trinkets. what about people who farmed raden for months and still didnt get the weapon but the monk rolling for os gets it and would rather give it to someone who needs it but is unable to because of this dumb rule. i really dont care if a small percentage abuse this cause everyone can leave the dam guild and find a new 1. i have been in a few guilds that use to abuse master loot and give gear to alts or disenchant it or even if it was a .01% upgrade give it to a officer and not a guildy who is it is major upgrade for. i just left them and found better guilds since they do exist. why by loyal to a guild that treats you like @#$% when you can find 1 that treats you like a person. also it would be nice if they fixed legacy loot rules to just last xpac and not 11 lvls below you especially with the squish comming
MLer just forced ppl into guilds or suffer being ripped off even more in a PUG MLer group...free trading of personal loot would only affect u if ur raid leader was an a hole and booted cuz u didnt trade loot he wanted
As a heroic raider the problems I see effect us that use weapons that are not usable by a great number of classes. I main Sin rogue. With me as the only dagger rogue until the last tier there were not a lot of daggers that dropped through the raids that could be traded so m+ became the most viable way to get heroic level gear. We had no shield using tanks but if we did I’m sure they would have experienced the same lack of usable gear drops for those particular slots. I just feel that ML could offer a sort of bad luck protection to under represented weapon types.
