I think part of the issue is that it canonises us, the player as being the killer of Kearnen all along. We killed her from out of time. Some people might love this idea, both as players and as their character, but others might wish to be a conscientious objector. Why do we force players to canonise this as part of what they do in the timeline? None of the reasons for why Chromie wants this matter in face of this particular issue of once again stealing all player agency/decision-making away from the player - it would be nice to see multiple ways to solve this scenario instead. You'd think the idea of allowing a conscientious objector would have become a possibility after the burning of the Teldrassil plot back in BFA where it made sense for some horde characters to not want to go that far - and only later on did the option arise to select 'not my horde' as an option with the Sylvanas deploying The Plague in the battle for Lordaeron (and the incident in the Redridge Mountains tracking down a traitor.)
What the f...Can we have a time-travel quest that ISN'T "horrible thing must happen and YOU have to do it" ? How about we do something to save someone or some thing that wasn't meant to die. Why is it ALWAYS "Gotta make sure the bad things happen or else the timeline will collapse" when it comes to Bronze storylines/quests/dungeons?I've been edging closer and closer to "The Infinites are right."
Good article. These points are really making me dislike that Chromie quest already. First, it's hypocritical, second, it's nonsensical. It is NOT Amber's death that leads to the uncovering of the conspiracy, but it's her investigation that we as rogues continue when she dies.By just helping her - or even doing nothing at all - the outcome would have been the same. There's no need for us to kill her at all.If anything, we should help her to uncover the conspiracy and not be killed in order to have her as a valuable ally against the Legion. Only that would be consistent with Chromie trying to save Nozdormu. (Same Outcome there as well = Murozond vanquished.)
The only issue I have with this quest is that in an RPG you don't get to choose if you do it or not. There should be a choice where you don't go through with the assasination and a bronze dragon does it instead. The rest of the quest is perfectly fine.Blizz most likely won't do that though. Considering Blood Elf players are forced to help Jaina with a smile on their face or Humans forced to help Horde with a smile on their face and so on.
Omg another one of these posts, maybe all quests should be going out giving NPC's Gifts and Cookies from now on, it's World of Warcraft not Hello Kitty Online, get a grip man, if this continues what kind of "Storytelling" will be possible in in really ANY game in the future If we arent allowed to tackle any "serious" topics anymore cause someone feels "offended"?
"Beloved"? To who? Rogue players? Alliance players? I don't main a rogue, and I don't play Alliance. This woman isn't "beloved" to me. She's no different than any other vaguely-relevant character we've been asked to kill over the years.
why should anyone care about this particular set of pixels? i will gladly kill this human.given the chance i would kill chromie too. shes absolutely insufferable
I know everyone here is losing it over how "Amber wasn't that important who is she even buhh" but I mean. Some of us do care about the characters in this game. Amber Kearnen is in Maldraxxus, and she recognizes the player as a rogue and asks if her letter made it to the Uncrowned, which you tell her yes, it did, and it's a nice moment that brings closure to her character. Now telling us that we have to be responsible for her death when her being alive is only bad in the abstract butterfly affect way (because she has a letter on her that would just tell us what she would've said regardless) is pretty much just stomping on that nice moment."It's just fiction!" You can care about fictional characters, it's okay. You can even be upset when bad things happen to them. You can be even upset when the game forces you to be the person who did the bad thing in a convoluted retcon. If you're going to do quests like this, make us, I don't know, make sure Tirion gets excommunicated or something. For Blood and Honor is hardly acknowledged in WoW.
.
i can't wait to kill nozdormu/murozond too. tired of him whining about his alternate form.this expansion invigorates my love for the dragonmaw clan.
I feel like a lot of people don't understand what's the problems that others have with these quests. It's not about whether or not murder or rape should be in the game, those things are in the game and that's fine, but our role in these time travelling quests is completely &*!@#ic. They are trying to make us to be the bad guys all along. We are killing and raping good characters so we could defeat bigger threats at some point down the road? What purpose does any of this serve? If we can't change anything then why are we even part of this? Like the writer here said the same outcome (rogues investigating Shaw) could be achieved in plenty of other ways. At the same time quest giver is a hypocrite who will change the things she doesn't like. Just make these quests to be fun little trips to the past, no need to break lore in stupid ways like this.
Wonder how much complaining will bee needed for this one to be canned too. Chromie-related content in general seems to be full of "concerning" things nowadays. Overused joke characters getting too much spotlight will do that. That said, I respect Chromie for preventing retcons, and that's the ONLY thing I respect the obnoxious little creature for. Shame Amber has to die, but it's better than having history altered to make people feel better about fictional characters.
Are all the Chromie quests going to be this way? Between this and Alex, I hate to think of what other horrible deed we have to do in order to "save" the timeline. The whole premise sounds awful.
Well I killed worst then her so if it prevents a Flashpoint so ah bye bye, also as a Hordie for me I didn't know her so makes no difference then the other npcs I sadly had to kill which was mostly my own ppl, but think of it this way if we prevent her death then what the Dreadlords will kill more because no one will have discovered them n then what the Legion will have taken over the Ally leadership maybe, so her death helps not only uncover corruption but prevents the death of countless others but hey think of it like The Flash TV series, movie n animated movie when it comes to the Flashpoint n preventing one action which will effect a entire timeline.
wouldnt be surprised if chromie becomes eternus and then turns nozdormu...
