the change makes sense for combat potions, but including utilities seems like an overkill to me.
I thought this was already the case in BFA, invisibility potions put combat potions on a cooldown which is why Cloak is so much better than invisibility potions in M+. This doesn't really change much...
I like this change a lot for combat potions, the sentiment and how it applies to raiding is solid and a positive change. I wouldn't mind seeing an alternative CD put on utility pots for m+, but it might be a tricky situation for Blizzard. If speed potions for example don't share a CD with your dps pots is that just going to incentive mass-chugging of speed potions on raid fights because there's no downside?I imagine those are the kind of gripes Blizzard are trying to navigate around, people giving better feedback than STUPID CHANGE, WORST DEV might go some way to getting a happy middle ground, but pre-potting is an eternal annoyance that causes plenty of issues in itself. I'm glad they're trying to make changes.
It's a solid change for sure man.
I personally don't like the simplification of game and "less is better". Game is becoming oversimplified from all aspects, classes are linear (almost identical) and it seams the direction they are taking is not going to change. How about instead of doing this, you instead provide different mechanic for potions and their use. Encourage use of running potions and/or any other potions that already exist or some new ones you can add. Make them fun and meaningful, instead of opening some burst with a potion on hero and then forgetting about it. Clicking on a bar every 5 minutes feels completely irrelevant and insignificant. Same applies to most trinkets/GCD's with higher cooldowns. Make classes/game play more interactive, not less. The way the game is going,we 'll end up with the Diablo like bar, pressing 4 keys and occasionally, popping a health potion to survive.
Getting rid of the prepot thing is good, but can we please have separate cooldowns for combat potions and utility potions (and their engineer belt equivalents). I don't want a 5 minute cooldown on my Nitro Boosts.
I don't mind longer cooldowns on combat potions (pre-potting sucks anyway), and 5min is not a bad CD for utility in the grand scheme of things, but it really irks me that they're on a shared cooldown. For long raid fights this sounds awesome, but for M+ keeping them on the same CD is just not good at all. For M+ (especially on tyrannical where you want all extra dps you can get out of potions) this likely means routes will have to be built around either a) requiring a token rogue just for skips, b) not having any skips at all, or c) requiring everyone to go Venthyr for the covenant ability - even if your class Venthyr ability is trash. This in turn would likely make getting into any keys as non-rogue non-venthyr more difficult. Not to mention farming old raids for mogs - I like popping speed potions to get around faster on my slower alts, but this change will make me want to never step in those raids again cause they'll take a lot longer without the potions.
After weeks of having to deal with this. I can say it sucks and has taken the fun out of using potions. Also it renders them next to useless in dungeons and raids. After one use we have to wait 5 minutes. Another horrible legacy of bfa...
