Blizzard shared a sneak peek at the upcoming Battle for Azeroth comic Reunion with
Kotaku
today.
Edit: the complete comic is
now live
.
Blizzard is releasing a series of comics over the next month. This series, with a total of three comics, will highlight different important characters leading up to the expansion. The first comic,
Reunion
, focuses on Jaina Proudmoore as she returns to the ruins of Theramore, her former home.
Jaina's story is especially notable because she's been missing since the start of Legion, after leaving the Kirin Tor when they allowed the Horde back in Dalaran to fight against the Burning Legion. We've seen her in a number of roles throughout WoW's history, from peacemaker at the end of Wrathgate to grieving leader after the destruction of Theramore.
After Jaina's absence in Legion, she is slated to play a major role in Battle for Azeroth: She accompanies us as
we arrive for the first time in Kul Tiras
. After disappearing for most of the leveling in Kul Tiras,
we need to rescue her
.
Below you can see the preview images:
Reunion was written by
Andrew Robinson
and has art by italian artists
Linda Cavallini
and
Emanuele Tenderini

I still don't understand why Jaina blames the ENTIRE Horde for the actions of:
1) Garrosh Hellscream (dead)
2) Aethas Sunreaver (barely has a say in current Horde affairs, if any)
Daelin was entirely at fault in WC3. Rexxar, Thrall and others tried to explain that they weren't the same Horde he knew and that they didn't want war against the Alliance, but Daelin wasn't having that #$%^. He was stubborn and in the wrong, and paid for it with his life.
Her current disposition honestly just makes me think she's suffered from a psychotic break. Hoping to see that change given her character arc in BfA, but otherwise?
yawn
Oh, and as an Alliance player, unless I see something that makes me believe she isn't going to just mow down every member of the Horde she sees, I can guarantee you I won't be doing that "rescue" scenario in Thros. Not worth my time for someone like Jaina
Because it was the entirety of the Horde's actions. Garrosh didn't do everything on his own. The Horde was more than compliant with his orders until he targeted one of his own. Yes, there were a small few who were against the bombing, those are the exception. That doesn't even take into account the Horde hunting down the refugees and starved, tortured, and killed them. So, using Garrosh as a scapegoat doesn't really work.

So this is the "dark" side of Jaina Blizzard spoke of is it? Another doubling down on portraying the Horde as savage animals who took advantage of a poor naive girl and her futile and wrong desire for peace? Meanwhile whitewashing Jaina's act of cowardice in Legion by claiming she "fought the demons on her own". Right. Because we really needed Theramore shoved down our throats again right?
Uhuh. Sure.
I mean look at that Theramore flashback panel! Thrall going "there there" posed like some sort of deceptive predator while Rexxar ruthlessly butchers her father.
Why not have a panel where Rexxar eats Daelin's entrails while Thrall distracts Jaina with a pull my finger gag while we're at it?
Evil is a matter of perspective everyone!
Jaina is going to have a entire arc dealing with her actions in BfA, so, yes, we do need to get a refresher on what happened, especially for new/returning players, and where she's at mentally- which is reflected in how she remembers these events now. I mean, more than half the player based don't seem to understand the wounding of Theramore and write her off as unaccountably angry. The Alliance run head-first into how she was exiled and why as soon as they leave for Kul Tiras, so it's an important set up for that arc.
Honestly, is the best anyone can do here cry about Red Team vs Blue Team instead of talking about a character's development and motivation? Is she supposed to have forgotten all of this happened? Shrugged it off and gone on as the setting's eternal optimist or is it more realistic to show how she snapped after seeing her apprentice blow away on the wind because of her idealism? Or is character development now "faction bias" as well?
Okay. Where are the blood elves lamenting over the purge of Dalaran?
Where is Aethas remembering how Jaina and Vereesa butchered innocent elves for no reason other than Jaina's rage and Vereesa's bruised ego?
Where is the image of a Silver Covenant soldier dangling an unarmed civilian over crocolisks for fun?
Why has nobody ever mentioned it once since it happened but Theramore has been dredged up approximately 500,000 times?
That's just the blood elves. What about Taurajo? What about the goblin ship being sunk by SI:7 because "lol no witnesses"?
This has nothing to do with red vs. blue. This has to do with yet more slanted myopic storytelling where the Alliance are noble heroes and victims bravely resisting evil, and the Horde are snarling vicious rabid animals who should've been justly put down long ago.
I've seen much of her arc in BfA. All it seems to amount to is accepting that it wasn't wrong to try for peace. But at no point in BfA just as in no point in Before the Storm and seemingly at no point in this comic is the Horde presented as anything other than the dogs that bit their benefactors.

Lady Proudmoore. you have been through so much you poor archmage. i hope that the heroes on your side can help you find peace. we are tired of this war we want to unite, but the Horde does not understand... the closest was Thrall, but he's in his own world now. just know your 'champion' is going to ensure no more harm comes to you, and your lands.
This isn't Moonguard. :D
find peace. we are tired of this war we want to unite, but the Horde does not understand
Peace like Alliance attacking goblin miners in Silithus?

Everything she says there is basicly what villains are made of. And I don't believe for a second she went of to fight Demons alone ! Fought them where ? At this worst hour of Azeroth, she left and threw a hissy fit. That will be her shame in my eyes. While the Horde, the one she call beasts, helps save the world AGAIN. She should be called out on leaving Kirin Tor in the Burning Legion invasion and should not be trusted. She did a reverse Varian there.
This whole developement after Theramore still pisses me off as if we need more warmongering characters that we will kill in the future if they follow the same route. I mean along with Sylvanas, Jaina is at the top of my kill list right now.
And Broken Shore 'betrayal' was the anything but a betrayal...where alliance HEARD the horn sounding retreat and yet they didn't retreat. It was an urgent retreat and yet these supposed ''wise'' characters couldn't understand that and blamed the Horde for trying not to die for NOTHING on an unprepared attack that was doomed to fail ?
I mean, I cannot take these characters seriously when their logic applies to childish blame-games. Why do we even need Old God corruption since the 'leaders' are this stupid by themselves.
You will spare Jaina's life as per my orders, boy. Drop that list and move on. You anger is now diminished!
Listen to me, and don't speak a word. You will honor Theramore's loss and abandon this path you have chosen, boy. It's not too late... *The Horde starts to advance towards Teldrassil.* This discussion is far from over.
OOC: I see what you did in there xDD I do like this salty Jaina now that some time passed since MoP (because that sudden change from pacifist to "Dismantle the Horde!" was a bit annoying, not gonna lie), we need some people who distrust the Horde (we have Tyrande, but she get's little to no screentime in war affairs, Genn, but they are softening him, and Jaina as the main anti-Horde people in the Alliance)
If the comic can explain a bit more about the things she did offscreen in Legion, then I'll be happy. (And please, make her reconciliate with Kalecgos, I liked that ship -.-)
I'd wish Greymane would overlook Stormwind Harbor - as is his job. I personally think Anduin is independent and needs no advisors, and he'll lead the Battle for Lordaeron without advisors.
