for does who do not know what redemption means: its something that a person achieve the peoples respect and its not given. If its given its not redemption its forgiveness.
this is bad
The characters don’t want to redeem her, she does not want redemption herself. There is no atonement here, just the story leading us from point A to point B.People need to stop expecting everything to be laid out for them months before launch.Take this for what it is, the next page of the book not the end of the chapter.
Well, Danuser has written himself into a corner. First, he makes Sylvanas behave erratically, her actions stop making sense, and the fans are forced to rationalize her... Only for him to invalidate it all by basically saying, "haha, it actually wasn't her all along!". So on one hand, we're getting the good-willed, heroic Sylvanas. On another, this isn't a character arc or transformation - it's a character from Warcraft 3 that has nothing to do with what her body was doing for the past decades.I liked a pragmatic, controversial Sylvanas that rallied the free-willed undead and forged a new nation in the ruins of Lordaeron. But now it's basically what bonkers "dark Sylvanas" did. Why would the "real Sylvanas", who spent all this time in the Maw or wherever, take accountability for "dark Sylvanas'" actions, when she could only scream in terror helplessly this whole time? I know I wouldn't. But she kind of will for the sole purpose of pleasing the haters who's (ironically) gonna hate her anyway, for the stuff "dark Sylvanas" did.In other words, Danuser thought he found a clever way to instantly wash all the blame off Sylvanas, but he just basically deleted the character we've known for the past 18 years since undead campaign of WC3: Frozen Throne. This was all "dark Sylvanas", everything she did was a part of Jailer's convoluted plan, and she no longer exists.
The crux of the issue is that we spent 4 years with her commiting crime after crime and evey one of her defeats was framed only as an inconvenience not exactly as a defeat (teldrassil, wod, ardenweald etc...) showing us one thing and telling us other just to have her agency put in doubt before receiving justice. Now about the soul fragment we can see this in different angles but I believe 2 angles are what the majority of us will fall.1-we get that she wasnt in full control of her faculties (I dont want to get started on any discussion about her soul not being split in practically half) for practical purposes she was mentally impared and making choices she normally wouldnt do because magic from blue nipple man, now he installs again her morality ship and she is of course having regrets of being a genocidal monster.THe main problem is this realization didnt came from sylvanas herself, as it is framed from this video the janitor shoved a morality chip on her and now she wants to make things right, doesnt feel organic, feels like a cheap cop out.2- The soulsplit is more of an allegory than a literal soulsplit, her death traumatized her and she was coping with despair all this time, then after being deceived by the janitor she realized that she did wrong and wants to make things right now, this is a bit better since the change is arguably from the inside however it has its own set of problems since we already saw sylvanas doubting herself so there wasnt any need to make some soulfragment shenanigans with the ranger general, why does she renegee against herself like she has two personalities? why is uther only talkin to blue sylvanas? where is the BQ sylvanas? why do they show us two different sylvanas if their intent is to tell us she is one and the same? also if they wanted her to make amends this cinematic is framing her as if she wasnt really at fault while telling us she is totally at fault, it fails to properly contextualize that she was in control all the time and we're only seeing an allegory, also she was already very sympathetic to anduin and I bet that having her chained telling us stuff wouldve been a better way to go instead of this crapshow "let me tell you at least how to find anduin, for all I did I didnt wanted to turn him into satan's sock puppet etc..." corny as heck but I believe it...These last videos have all been trying to portray her as sympathethic however I am in a part of the fanbase that doesnt care about this s**t, I am also from number 1 camp, I wanted her to enter the maw, slip on a banana peel and break her neck so we couldnt see her ever again. People like me cant and wont feel sympathy for this character making this entire story useless at best and at worst extracting resources from having a better story and the only emotional reaction to blizzard trying to push the sympathy angle is that they're trying to redeem hitler so of course im gonna react like that, how am I supposed to play /enjoy this game if I have to help sylvanas atone while I actively want to just kill her? better to leave the janitor to remake reality or whatever he wants to do./tldrshe either was mentally impaired or this was a badly done allegory to trauma which in either case this badly written story doesnt deserve our attention.
Very unfortunate that they continue the butchery of one of the few characters in their lore that had any depth or realistic flaws. There was no fixing it after how badly they ^&*!ed up her character in BFA but this is probably the worst way to deal with the atrocious writing in BFA.
The only Legacy they have Shattered is Warcraft's.
