Females have two X chromosomes, males have a Y chromosome and an X chromosome. Just sayin'.
Was that a Balisong! Lore, you just got more awesome...
"Put her up on a pedalstall so we can look under her skirt.. Woah i just distracted myself"Damn, i fell of my chair laughing xD
In response to Kitty: I'm GM and RL of a (very new) raiding guild, and I'm a girl. I don't have any issues with my raiders treating me "differently" because of my two X chromosomes (brush up on your biology, Lore ;-] ), and I think that comes from a number of things:1) It's an Aus server. Yeah, there are adolescent-minded jerks everywhere but they tend to be too laid-back to be overtly jerky here in Aus.2) I'm GM. I think that the fact that I run the show helps me, to be honest.3) The officers have my back. My officers are both former GMs and RLs, as well as being mature guys (30+) with families, and because they support me in dealing with any jerky responses, our guildies know not to mess around.4) I've recruited specifically to encourage mature-minded players. 5) The two (known) women in the guild - me, and one of our warriors - are both fairly strong-minded and known for it. We don't take crap from nobody, as the saying goes. So, there are things you can do to make life better. If you can't start your own guild, or if the officers won't do anything to change the guild atmosphere (which is fair enough, if you're the only one who finds it objectionable) you could apply for a different guild that's more to your style. There are lots of guilds out there, and there's bound to be one that's more girl-friendly for you. If you can find one with a lady GM, that might help even more.
Googled elvui to see what it is. Not a healing mod at all, it's a UI package, so they're basically using a reskinned version of the default UI to heal with. Definitely not a good idea.
Just like Lore said, unfortunately the good players that are female have to deal with the metaphorical "wall" built by the "attention seekers" that come before them. Most (not all, I know a good number that aren't) girl players end up running under that moniker, and just as he said, when someone cracks an awkward joke or something, they insist on making the whole group know they are not of the same gender. If you are hellbent on making it a point that you're a girl playing the game, ESPECIALLY when you can't pull your own weight in the group, you cannot ever expect to be treated as an equal. The fact that you would even have such a reaction actually has the exact opposite effect. So yeah, like Lore said, if you're a double-X'er, don't go walking around with an "I HAVE BOOBIES" shirt on and expect to be taken seriously. Also, captcha: Idipp Manhoods. I lol'd.
I honestly think the whole "I'm a girl and everyone treats me like I suck!" is overdone. So far in my raid-groups I've had three women/girls, and I never saw them get treated any different to any other raider (honestly, I just saw them get the butt of LESS jokes, I think people went out of their way to make sure they weren't being offensive). In fact, I think there was one who wasn't told off for being bad ENOUGH, but I might attribute that to the fact she'd been raiding with them pretty much since the dawn of time. And who says guys have to be respectful around girls? In my experience the girls were making the most AIDs and penis jokes. It really depends on the girl, just like you can get a guy who if he hears a yo mama joke will quit the guild and put you all on ignore. (true story, our guild has our own meme about 'Playername's Mom' now. Who's going to fill the last spot? 'Playername's Mom.')
:PFunny PST this time!:D:D:DHey Lore! How can you do that?Good Job!You have practised it for how long?Holy -----. You had no life? xD
Honestly, I've played with both versions of women, and to some degree, as soon as you speak on vent, there is an atmosphere change. The only real way to avoid it is to not speak on vent at all, which isn't acceptable either to the player or to the raid she's in. So, suck it up, accept that there will be some attention given to you simply because you have different plumbing. If you are good at your class and the dps meters agree (and the death meters...), it won't matter very quickly. Most men don't fit into a group full of guys until they've proven their worth, either. (Females simply have an additional "wall" of past history to overcome, which, to some degree, is fairly placed. If you think this "wall" is unfairly placed, and don't hesitate to enforce that opinion very vocally, you might be one of the reasons it exists.) If, on the other hand, you are consistently tasting floor with fire on your face and the dps meter says you are doing negative dps... yeah (or for healers or tanks, similar concepts): you probably deserve it. Just like any dude would deserve it. If you are bad, don't use the "I'm a girl" excuse, it only f&cks it up for every other woman coming after you. Also, for those who would like to argue the point of fairness. How is it that, when you point out that it's unfair that you have to overcome the history of other women, you conveniently forget about those of us that treat them respectfully and honestly, only caring about their skill, who have to be lumped in with that frat boy raider who only wants to make d1ck jokes?TL:DR If you can support yourself with some numbers and not an excuse, your gender won't matter.Food for thought, ladies : Next time you want to take your man into a female dominated store or environment like Bath and Body Works to "browse".... remember this moment : he doesn't want to go for a lot of the same reasons.
Girls who play wow are awesome. They will understand your addiction and fuel it! Best girlfriends evor. Also, I think Lore is a rogue IRL.
i'm a girl who plays lots! It does seem to be adolescent boys who do seem to make the jokes.... some are amusing and others are downright offensive. Me and my fella both play and test games. Even he notices the abuse that gets thrown around if you point out your a girl. The only people who know I'm female are my guild and my irl friends who play. i hate the I'm a girl excuse and in any situation I tend to keep my mouth shut and just use the ignore button if someone is generally abusive and bossy. So to all you guys who use the god damn excuse DONT! Learn to play if yer getting greiff about your performance and just ignore it if its unjustified abuse. My game time is far better because i just get on with my job and know my class's, how to play them and also being bloody polite!
The inevitable XKCD link.I was fortunate enough to get into a good mixed gender guild with my main, and most of my alts are in a guild formed by RL friends. I got into real world gaming before I got into WoW, and honestly I have gotten more flak for "being a girl" in person than on WoW, which speaks a lot for the average WoW player. The incident that comes to mind for worst reaction to me just playing the game as best I could was a game of Risk Godstorm. First round, before my turn, two other players attacked me and took territories. I took those territories back and continued the game being attacked and attacking since I had the misfortune to start in the center. End of the game I played a last-ditch card to try and pull myself back from the brink. For my troubles, I got called an "aggressive b***h" even though I had been no more aggressive than any other player. The WoW environment has been better than that, but that type of behavior by guys makes me wary of how the unknown players I bump into in-game will react. It's a similar problem to the guys who have been burned by "I HAVE BOOBIES"/drama, drama, drama girls in the past and are reluctant to face that problem again. It's not an easy subject to address from either direction, and I applaud Lore for planning to discuss it.
The whole girl thing... wow that was really bad, you are like a 10 year old.
I think I've had it pretty good as a female - my husband got me into the game, so I have been automatically accepted by his friends. Yes there are "rude" jokes... some are funny, some are offensive. I laugh at the funny ones, and ignore the offensive ones. I think it really just takes maturity to both give a good first impression before people find out you're a girl and also deal with any negative reactions afterward. Even in pug dungeons, I've found I get respect from the other players by keeping my cc target under control, not standing in fire, and keeping up good dps. Also in response to the healer's raidframes, I healed dungeons with the default party frames until level 75ish... at which point it simply became impossible for me to react quickly enough and track the healthplates well enough. (I often died because I only looked at my party members' frames and forgot about my own portait up there at the top!) I installed Healbot and have never looked back from one-click healing. I now use Vuhdo due to personal preference, but as long as you have a one-click setup, I don't really think it makes that much difference what ui you end up choosing.
Hmm, @kitty umi's question.I am a female guild master. To be fair, the new people joining always are more comfortable after finding out I am a woman. As Laanai said before me, there are jokes, but usually nothing offensive. I like the atmosphere in the guild, we have an 90% to 10% male to female ratio, but no one actually makes a big deal about it.
