Peculiar Fish in Hallowfall - Could Ozumat Rise Again?
The War Within

Ozumat, the patriarch of all kraken, hasn't been seen since a glimpse of him in
Battle for Azeroth
, but a side quest involving a peculiar fish in Hallowfall makes us wonder if we soon see him again.
Gasping Plea
The quest begins with a
Gasping Fish
, which can be looted from a kobyss in Hallowfall. "Its dehydrated lips faintly move, yearning to whisper." While the creature is unable to speak, you hear a voice in your mind as it begs you to take it to the water. If you're kind enough to listen, the peculiar fish offers to repay you for the gesture. All seems fair and above board. I mean,
N'Zoth had a tendency to appear and make deals as a fish
, but that was long ago and besides, N'Zoth is dead.
The fish sends us to collect
Sunless Shard
s from the kobyss - "flecks of dark crystal reflect no light", and to examine the kobyss' shrines for insights on the creatures. As we do, an Abyss Whisperer appears above each one, speaking of depths in which no light shines.
Abyss Whisperer says: They are gone, but their blood remains. The blood remembers.
Abyss Whisperer says: Swim in these dark waters, and be changed by them. No Light shines in these depths.
Abyss Whisperer says: Dark blood rains from the false sky. It tastes of wars past, and wars to come.
We return to the fish, who uses the crystals we brought to create a special lure. Using the lure around certain kobyss draws them in as they investigate - allowing us to ambush them in the same way that they ambush others. It should probably come as not surprise at this point that the lure inflicts void damage when it's released.
Voices from the Deep
In the end, the fish asks us to take it further out to sea - Exposure to the Light has weakened it, so it needs to be carried to deeper, darker waters, where it can return to its kind. We've come this far in our negotiations with the obvious void creature, so why not.
As we let the fish go, its form begins to shift and unwind, and we realize its guise as a fish was yet another illusion. The fish transforms into a miniature octopus-like creature that we usually associate with the Void. In the distance, an Abyssal Leviathan arrives to claim it. As the creatures swim away together, the not-a-fish whispers in our mind, warning us to never attempt to bring the Light to the waters' depths.
Peculiar Fish whispers: Our cooperation is at an end. Now, I return to the sea beneath the sea, away from this accursed star. Bring its Light to our depths and we shall be your crushing end.
Peculiar Fish whispers: Let us not meet again. The thought of your drowned corpse displeases me.
Related to Ozumat?
Players may remember that the Abyssal Depths is a zone in Vashj'ir - the underwater zone from
Cataclysm
. We learned back then that these octopus-like creatures are the children of Ozumat, the patriarch of all kraken, who we fought in the
Throne of the Tides
dungeon and last saw during
Battle for Azeroth
, watching us through a waterfall in Nazjatar.
For the moment, it does seem that the octopi-possibly-related-to-Ozumat are happy to leave us alone, providing we offer them the same courtesy. Our little friend even told us it wouldn't like to see our drowned corpse - which is probably the closest a creature like that can get to expressing a sweet sentiment. On the other hand, while Xal'atath seems satisfied with her
ascended nerubians
and
skardyn
for now, there may come a time when she decides she could also use some tentacly help. In that situation, it might be nice to have at least one weird-little-octopus vaguely on our side.

One correction, the plural of octopus is octopuses not octopi.
I think it’s actually octopieces, cause then you add them all up to get one octopus 🤓🤓😂

Wowhead is horribly wrong. If they had played the delves at all, they would have seen Ozumat in one of the Kobyss delves. One of the variants is literally freeing Ozumat from the Kobyss trying to control him.
Did you even read the article? They never stated that the massive leviathan is Ozumat. All they have done is mention the possibility of these octupusy being related to Ozumat.
Also, there's a thing called Spoilers. Why would they spoil it? Why are YOU spoiling it?
The Dunning-Kruger situation here is hilarious
Why are you reading articles about a game that hasn’t even released yet if you’re concerned about spoilers?

I have already done this quest myself in game (whilst testing). I was referring to people getting Ozumat spoiled. ( Ozumat is not the main topic of this article.)

One correction, the plural of octopus is octopuses not octopi.
Octopi is the oldest plural of octopus, coming from the belief that words of Latin origin should have Latin endings. Octopuses was the next plural, giving the word an English ending to match its adoption as an English word.
Both are acceptable plurals for 'octopus'.

Merriam-Webster
and
Dictionary.com
say both "octopuses" and "octopi" are acceptable.
