Stop linking the second clip to scare people. That clip is over five months old, and that vulnerability has been fixed in WeakAuras EVEN BEFORE THAT CLIP BECAME PUBLIC.EDIT: The first vulnerability has also now been fixed in WeakAuras. How about reaching out to the addon developers and confirming with them, before making OMG SCARY POSTS FOR CLICKS?
Unless the TBCC AH is vastly different from the Retail AH, there is no reason to use an addon for your AH stuff unless you are mass posting items. Sure use whatever you want to keep track of historical data and good prices on items, but use it in conjunction with the base AH, the changes they have made over time with the base AH make it a perfectly fine option to use when buying and low end selling of stuff.
I know WeakAuras are incredibly useful and would probably help me play better and/or progress farther, but this type of stuff is why I'll never use 'em.I just don't trust it enough and it seems every time there's a scam situation it revolves around them.Sorry about those that got scammed though, 'tis rough.

Some weird replies down here. It's scummy that people do it, and it's double scummy that it doesn't seem like it's officially cracked down on (you'll just get a "Sorry, we can't do anything about it" from a GM and an in-game warning like "We aren't responsible for addons/weakauras"), so it just kind of keeps perpetuating itself.Pagle is full of classic auctions that are 1 copper bid, 90+ gold buyout for the weirdest stuff in hopes they'll catch someone like this with either a WA, an Addon, or by accident. Even in Retail, you'll see someone posting a bag for 400k+ just to try and scam someone. It's rough, and it sucks.
This is why I make my own WeakAuras.
Dang that sucks, always the few malicious people ruining good stuff.I don't use a lot of public WAs (I have a bunch I made myself) because of things like this. Unless the WA has an established good rep, or is simple enough that I understand each piece of the code, I just don't use it. But it's a pain to feel like you have to look carefully at every single thing. One particular thing I check are the Load settings - If I download something for a raid, then I make sure it loads ONLY in that specific raid, no need for it to load in Org/Oribos.
to what end? its not like the scammer gets any additional gold?I just dont see the point
Since Cata I have spent a lot of my time reporting Multi-boxers and obvious druid bots. I didn't see changes. The same people doing the same stuff every day. So I stopped during reporting the accounts. Now within the last years Blizzard (Activision) has taken multiple steps to stop these people. Just like multi-boxers and bots I'm sure Blizzard is trying to address the issue. They should have the ability to track the transactions to determine the accounts making gold off the scam. So I encourage people to continue to report this type of abuse. In time it will be dealt with.Remember that no matter where your journey takes you enjoy it while you can.
