What are you up to, goblin-wise? Anything in particular you're working on to get ready? What things do you think are really important to do before launch?
I'm personally cleaning up my bags and banks, stocking up on cheap mats (I think old world mats will rise in price and many things I craft are old world content), and clearing out crafted items from Shadowlands.
Getting a bunch of characters to 60 to be ready to go for tertiary crafting alts. Also been working on my setup for playing multiple licenses together in a group, so I'm using the invasions as practice for things like one button castsequence assist macros. I usually have extra accounts crafting or doing AH, but practicing working with them together so I can level up a squad all at once.
Little things. My mains and first tier alts get the starter reagent bags (it’s essentially free, so it doesn’t bother me that a better replacement will probably be available early) and get geared enough to make leveling a bit easier.
All the banks are getting cleaned and restacked to take advantage of the 1000 item stacks. Older but still viable shuffle mats are getting reorganized for resale just in case the values skyrocket over shuffle value. Buying up mats that I think will rebound or will be useful later that no one will want to farm.
I have a second account that I am not getting DF on as kind of an experiment inspired by posters asking for non-SL was of making gold this go around, so I am also getting whatever high BOEs and mats for gear to kit them out before people stop dumping them on the AH. I love me some speed sets, possibly to the degree of irrationality. But that’s a goblin perk, make gold and do whatever you like with it.
There seems to be a lot of confusion around crafting and how the different stats work so I thought I would lay some of it out here:
What is Quality Level? Not all materials have a quality level (e.g., enchanting materials such as Chromatic Dust, wildercloth, cooked food have no quality level.)
However, most stackable materials (ore, leather, etc.) and stackable crafted items (e.g., potions) have a quality level from 1 to 3. Higher quality means "better" (e.g., higher bonuses or durations.)
Most crafted equipment has a quality level from 1 to 5. Higher quality means higher ilvl.
When crafting an item what determines Quality Level? It is all based on the recipe difficulty and your skill level:
For Q1-3 crafted items
if your skill meets or exceeds the recipe difficulty it will be crafted at the highest quality level- if your skill meets or exceeds 50% of the recipe difficulty it will be crafted at quality level 2
- below 50% it will be crafted at quality level 1.
For Q1-5 items, the breakpoints are 0%, 20%, 50%, 80% and 100% of recipe difficulty.
You don't have to remember these, the crafting window will show you what quality to expect based on your skill.
Note: on the PTR there is currently some funkiness going on when you are sitting right at or slightly above a breakpoint and it doesn't always give you the quality level it should. Caveat emptor.
E.g., if a Q1-3 recipe's difficulty is 150 and your skill is between 75 and 149 you will get a Q2 item.
What effect does the material quality have?If you use all Quality-1 materials in a recipe, your skill is used when determining the quality of the item you produce.
If you use all Quality-3 materials, you get a 25% x recipe difficulty skill bonus when making an item. If that bonus is enough to push you past the next breakpoint, you will produce the higher quality item.
If you use a mix of materials between Q1 and Q3 you will get a bonus between those two numbers. The exact math is complicated so I won't put it here.
This is important because if high quality (and typically higher cost) mats don't push you past the next breakpoint there is no point using them.E.g., if a Q1-3 recipe's difficulty is 150 and your skill is 40, you will normally craft it at Q-1 level. But you can use all Q-3 mats to get a Q-2 item (40 + 37.5 = 77.5 which is high enough to go to the next level.)
How does Inspiration work?Inspiration is a % chance to get a skill bonus each time you craft an item. When Inspiration procs the bonus it gives to your skill is a fixed amount:
33.334% of the recipe difficulty for recipes that produce Q1-3 items- 16.667% of the recipe difficulty for recipes that produce equipment (Q1-5)
If this bonus pushes your crafting skill past the next quality breakpoint you will get the higher quality level. If your base skill is too far away from the next quality level then it won't bump up even with an inspiration proc.
E.g., if a Q1-3 recipe's difficulty is 150 and your skill is 40, you will normally craft it at Q-1 level. But an inspiration proc will give you an extra 50 skill points, meaning that particular craft will be at Q-2 level.
How does Multicraft work?Multicraft is a % chance of getting extra items when you craft. It looks like it can produce anywhere from 1 to 2.5n
extra items when crafting where "n" is the number it normally produces (thank you to mech and coco for helping me figure this out.) So for a potion that normally produces 5 at a time, Multicraft procs will produce 6-18 potions. Multicraft only applies to some recipes (e.g., it does not affect equipment crafts, nor enchants.) Also there are talents that increase the number of extra items created on a Multicraft proc.
How does Resourcefulness work?Resourcefulness appears to be applied separately to every mat in a recipe. Again, thank you to coco and mech for helping us figure this out. So if your Resourcefulness is 5% on a recipe that uses one material, you have a 5% chance of getting some of that material back. If the recipe uses 2 materials though you have a 5% chance of getting back some of material 1
and a separate 5% chance of getting some of material 2 (its cumulative.) In other words, the more materials a recipe uses the more Resourcefulness procs you will get. Also, there are talents that increase the number of materials you get back from Resourcefulness.
I think that's about it. The exact numbers on Multicraft and Resourcefulness are still a bit tentative although I think we're pretty close there.
