protip: petition the creator to change what does and doesn't count because doing the fights properly should be punished 👍
No flame towards the author and wowhead. I get it that it's content and people will read it. But I think this is a disservice to the community to not post a disclaimer at the very top saying "please don't use rankings as a way to determine a player's worth". I got multiple 98/99s...with pugs. Does it show anything? No, I did some stupid &*!@ that, because my numbers are shiny, will be ignored.Logs culture is the worst because everyone can get top logs if they have the team, the gear, the kill timers. It's not an achievement. In fact, what 100 logs show is access and luck. I've seen a lot of people who look at top builds and think that's what they should run. I haven't met a single person in this game that can read logs, not even the highest-ranking people. They miss out on so much critical information about one's play/behavior as a player and it's crazy how everything is damage centric. A sad example is running TD for N'zoth to pad on the smallies and harvesters when it's totally, completely not needed. Same with the Reaping Flames build for tentacles - not needed, you're losing so much priority damage on N'zoth for it.Everyone, provided they're healthy, can get 99+-100 logs in a team of super geared team after a few pulls/kills. When logs are generated, you're going against hundreds of pad builds/super good kill timers/super geared teams' logs. If you don't understand how 100-200 logs that are pure cheese offset your rankings and how that doesn't show anything about you as an individual - worse yet, if you're an officer and you can't read this, you should just stop using wlogs altogether. If I were to say what's the worst about somewhat competitive raiding, it's this. Having to put up with people who use logs in such a wrong way.Now we have a post that teaches anyone who can't read basic statistics on how to attempt to do things that most likely their environment doesn't allow them to, resulting in more wipes than it should and furthering the idea that "lol not even 95 logs" makes a bad player. In EP, for Fury Warriors, going from 90 to 99 was just a few thousand DPS, if even that:https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/rankings/23#class=Warrior&spec=Fury&boss=2304Someone that did good damage would be brushed off as "lol just bad" even if the difference between him and the others was probably just a few procs, combined with kill timers. Please, if you're starting out, take some time to learn about priority/meaningful damage, pre-movements and what gets you the kill in a fight: shift from the damage paradigm to "what needs to happen". Unless you're dysfunctional, you can do good damage inherently. There's a reason why WF players kill these bosses without half the gear most people have and it's all in that. However, realize that unless your officers know how to do this too, you will get benched otherwise. No one will care if you do the right thing if your ranking is low. Ran a ST build to push Ra'den and didn't pad on the adds at all? Tough *!@#, the DH who ran TD is getting your spot. Gambled IS procs instead of consistent builds? Well, we got our kill and you were 99, but let's forget the other 100 pulls when your damage was only 30-40% more than the tank.Being myopic in your judgment kills your chances for success. Unfortunately, WoW doesn't punish bad decision-making by the prism of how easy it is. But do this in an environment where a bad decision makes you bleed? It's over.
Rankings right now and current pvp season don't matter at all to me, although one thing i have to admit, as a warlock i'm glad that the top warlocks mostly use only one proc-reliant corruption (Infinite Stars) and the rest are just stacked expedients, so it's still the rotation that does the most. Can't really say the same thing for pvp, though... I don't do pvp seriously, my highest ranking ever was 1.8K a season ago but now it has become a complete !@#$show, with both proc-reliant and passive stat corruptions, but i really wanted to push it more this season. Then i saw a DH with 2 weapons from Ra-Den and its corruption doing 60% of his damage. If we get such stuff in the future it should be disabled in pvp. PvE seems fine, as only one group of players' skill is put to the test.
I’m happy getting 90+ or even 98 parses doing a normal reclear without people going for parses and having fairly long boss fights in my guild

Does anyone even proofread the articles before publishing them? There's a ton of errors in here. And what does it even mean to "yoink" one's damage/healing anyway?
Using logs in progression is good to improve and see where things go wrong and what needs to be done to get better.Getting top logs is just an e-peen competition that serves no purpose but bathing in your own ego and showing off.Because to get top logs you need to ignore mechanics and try to push as much dps as you can stressing out healers, because you're ignoring mechanics because "muh logs yo".In short, don't become a @#$% who's just there to get his ego boost.
Play a class with alot of haste, get alot of infinity stars procs, profit.
How to rank as a tank: Step 1: Stack all the TD and hope it procs a lot and you don't die to grand delusion.Step 2: ?Step 3: Gold parse
RNG based "skill" this patch is a joke.
Doing mechanics > parses
You people realize that anyone doing this is not doing it on a first kill attempt. Once bosses are on farm there is no detriment to the raid by having some fun like this. Y'all need to chill
We all know a Padding Andy who doesn't CC, uses personal CDs to stand in the fire a bit longer rather than ease healer pressure during heavy raid damage, prioritizes cleave over good phase timing, knows when to apply dots to stuff that doesn't need to die, is of course is the guy that usually dies to grand delusions (better a wipe than a suboptimal parse), and judges teamwork by that sweet orange parse. At the same time, we have Spray and Pray Susan, who doesn't trust logs at all, because it's just context-insensitive numbers and padding, insists on using that sub-optimal talent/essence because it's "fun", and is happy to dwell near the bottom of the meters with no aspirations to improve at all.
Or, you know, just do the mechanics. Playing for parse during progression is a horrible thing to do. If you are done progressing by all means who cares. Just focus on getting your first kill.
The last time i care about "pushing to the limit" is during Cataclysm. As game progress, i noticed blizzard added systems that made your output deviate more and more from how well you play a spec, to how lucky you're with loot and procs.I would say MoP was the last time where people TRULY can push the limit, so much so that blizzard remove a LOT of skill factor to the game. Procs became rppm, removal of snapshoting, grossly over power trinkets, etc.In WoD it was okay until they added Legendary ring.In Legion... bruh, Titanforging and Legendary. Unless you're lucky with those 2, don't even bother trying to play the game for parses. Now BFA... procs... on top of procs... on top of procs... Only few classes have their ability doing more than procs, hell most of the abilities deal less damage than AUTO ATTACKS!And then corruptions added... yeah, no, i think i'll pass on trying to parse on this slot machine game xD
And this is why I kinda hate logs and rankings.... people gets more worried about this orange number than killing the boss and helping the raid.
