I'm a fan of the glimmer build. I enjoyed the power it brought in 8.1, and I loved the skill cap it gave managing all of your glimmers. Even with eight targets I think it's relatively engaging. But I know not everybody likes the playstyle, and more choice is always better. I like the idea of making infusion of light grant holy power; it could even be a good idea to make it a first row talent and give one of the non crusaders mights baseline or just remove them. It'd also be nice to see judgement and consecration generate holy power. I think it'd be more interesting even if they had a slight Mana cost. I hope blizzard sees this; I didn't realize the holy power generation of the spec without crusader's might was so poor. As is it'll likely force paladins into crusaders might as the increased holy power generation will probably be too powerful.
For me that Mastery only exists to make melee healing (while melee dpsing) viable in the first place - staying in range of tank and mobs etc. means you have to move a lot and have less time to actually use cast timer heals, so your Shocks have to amount to more...But yeah, pity that Beacon of the Lightbringer never made it baseline. That would have been a good tradeoff to make the mastery also apply to your target of choice when you're at range.
Ok so glimmer again, thanks.
I hope they make the "traditionnal caster build" viable again, not because I don't like the glimmer style, but for 2 things :- Paladin "glimmer" spec does a lot of dps while healing, and that's really bad for healers balance, why bring another healer when you can take only paladins / discs and gain some dps. (as seen in progress for top guilds in BFA). For me, glimmer paladin and disc should perform far less than other "traditionnal healers", and a "traditionnal" paladin spec should be healing a lot more than glimmer.- Raid mechanics are often unfriendly towards cacs, spots for melee are limited and you often want to bring fewer melees. Adding 1 or 2 healers with a melee spec as glimmer paladin, can result in benching more melee because of that, or having harder time because you have a lot of melees + paladins.
Flash light, Holy light now creating Holy power is a first step to the right direction but Flash heal would need to heal well to be viable in PvP. The infusion proc on Holy light was really decent and a must have in arena. I hope we will how it works out with Flash Light. There is no way you can juggle 2.2+ Second cast Holy lights against decent teams who snipe interrupts. Also you can't really fake that kind of slow heal or its very difficult. If they would change Infusion proc back to Holy Light casting time it would be great.
Another cool change they could make is removing/lowering Crusader Strike mana cost by base , and make Crusader's Might talent increase it mana cost since this talent will increase your HPS. By making this they would allow the use of Crusader strike for DPSing or for fun .Also, i do agree that H paladins should have more Holy power generation beside CS or HS.I would even care the removal of Holy power generation of Crusader Strike if there was another means of getting Holy power. It would be a good a idea to make these changes by removing/changing some unused talents since ever like Light's Hammer or Holy prism.
RIP holy radiance forever apparently. Still seems like they want healadins to only be tank healers. Light of dawn is no aoe. And to top it off they got rid of paladin heal over time spells. Time will tell if my hpally will be forced to go ret or prot. I have 5 pallys 3 tankadins, a retadin, and a healadin.
They should look no further than that first talent row to diversify the Hpal play styles and augment Holy Power flow. Remove Light's Hammer in favor of WoD Holy Radiance (AoE heal grants that grants 1 holy power) Then, add the suggested Infusion of Light benefit of granting 1 holy power to the Bestow Faith talent as a passive. That way you add a meaningful choice between not only melee-style glimmer with Crusader's Might, but also single-target triage ranged with Bestow Faith or a more AoE-focused Holy Radiance ranged.
for the love of Thrall, can we PLEASE have a caster option once again? i hate being a melee healer. i never asked to be a melee healer.
revert the change of infusion of light to have a faster holy light. it makes the pvp talent lights grace obsolete cause people can easily interrupt a long spell cast vs the fast one we use to have
Back in Cata/MoP I was a big fan of the Eternal Flame style caster style Hpal. Cata heroics were a challenge for healers where health bars would spike constantly and you couldn’t really focus on doing damage but based on the way Blizz has taken the game if you are NOT playing melee style Hpal you are doing your group a disservice. Let me explain why: With the advent of Mythic+ Blizz has insured and encouraged healers to do meaningful damage. In the case of the Holy Paladin during BFA it was primarily done via the Glimmer of Light build. However, even in that build the damage of Consecration, Melee, and Crusader Strike was still significant. If you choose to play the caster build you lose all three of these damage sources. You will barely be on the meters at all. Now contrast this with Monk, the other melee healer, their abilities lend themselves to being able to play at both ranged and melee. They have a ranged damage filler in Crackling Jade Lightning. Soothing Mist, which I equate to Hpal’s Holy Light, is a long channeled spell that allows for some amount of healing before interrupting it to move out of a floor monster, and you can instant cast after the first tick. A Paladin’s healing if you move during Holy Light is a big fat 0! They also have mobility in the form of roll and instant cast heals to be able to weave in and out of melee. So what would a caster style Hpal look like? Your damage is limited to Holy Shock and Judgment (I dont really count Hammer of Wrath). What happens if you are at range, there isn’t urgent healing that needs to be done, and you have 5 Holy Power? You get to either waste your next generator or overheal. We have no range spender! Best we can do it take Seraphim but that’s on a long cooldown. Our mobility is limited to the 45 second horse. Not to mention that our mastery is neutered at range unless we are stacking with range which is less than ideal for avoiding many damaging abilities. These factors lead me to believe Hpal’s will be forced into the Glimmer of Light build outside of a few corner cases. Now how can we fix it? I really like Jaydaa’s idea about the Infusion of Light change. It rewards the melee style in finding a safe time to hard cast, although I imagine it will be the reduced mana cost Flash of Light rather than Holy Light. If Blizz does want to encourage the caster style Hpal’s then they will have to give a way for us to use our damaging abilities at range, and increased Holy Power generation. The first big one that comes to mind is give us a targeting reticle for Consecration. It’s our only zero mana cost damage spell outside of white hit melees. The second is give us a meaningful damaging range Holy Power spender. The third would be to give us a ranged filler, or Holy Power generator. Something simple as letting Holy Light be both a damaging and healing ability, or a range version of Crusader Strike The other approach would be to make the melee style more fluid like it was in BFA. The issue is that the only reason we were able to have this playstyle at the end of BFA was because of borrowed power between Glimmer and Ineffable Truth. Personally Holy Paladins should be melee healers. We wear plate, we have a sword and a shield, and our mastery encourages being close to tanks but without the gameplay being smoothed out I suspect I will be switching healers in Shadowlands which makes me a sad Paladin.TL;DR : If you aren’t playing a melee style Hpal you are doing your group a disservice and as Jaydaa points out in his post the class design is struggling to synergize with itself
So glad others have already mentioned adding Judgement for holy power like it was previously for hpal. Additionally, I add my hpal main since vanilla's voice to the choir of give me back the mastery that was the %bubbles, or give me back Sacred Shield, or Eternal Flame...Also, not quite heal related but since someone else was commenting on differences in healer kits - GIVE ME BACK REBUKE TYVM! It just adds to my eye twitch in any pug when I watch my tank flail trying to handle all the interrupts b/c we are forever saddled with selfish/stupid melee who can't/won't interrupt. Meanwhile, I am often in melee already or would be ready to interrupt on rotation w/ my tank partner if they'd JUST GIVE ME BACK MY PROPER TOOLKIT! *ahem* sorry for the soap box moment but holy cow do I miss Rebuke, hard. :*( I also think the only way for both playstyles to /actually/ co-exist requires our mastery to be redesigned. I've hated so many of our masteries personally and weep at the loss of the absorbs based on our healing. So yea, completely hope that these kinds of ideas are seen in the right places, some good idea's/conversations around this stuff! =)
