The only time I know MDI is even live is when I accidently happen across it on Youtube. Since they took it off Twitch I no longer get alerts for it even though I am signed up for alerts via Youtube. I never see MDI LIVE on bnet but I often see Overwatch LIVE, don't think I've even seen a tweet from them about it. The viewership issue I have to place soley on Blizzard. Why did they bother making it an event if they just end up killing it the way they did with HotS?
Will Actiblizz fire anyone for this failure? Since they are proven to be clueless in e sports
watching wow is boring altogether. only excitement is when new expansions are announced. end of story....
on twitch they had MUCH more viewrship. Youtube sucks for streaming and its not even enoyable.
Spreadsheets and comparisons like this are rarely interpreted and done correctly. Yes if you take prize pool alone it's not much by hour spent, that is true for pretty much most e-sports and sports for that matter. When you're a pro player you need to be able to sell yourself. If you want to live off prize pool alone you're f*****, get sponsors, do streams, use the tournament as visibility to monetize elsewhere. MDI players for some reason think that MDI should sustain themselves, that they shouldn't do anything but train and play MDI and get a living off of it, no pro player ever does that, competing on a high level gets you visibility and you make money elsewhere, that is always what has been done. You could make this spreadsheet for League/CS and it would show basically the same for most regions, I'm obviously excluding the biggest tournaments because well, MDI isn't anywhere near them, both in terms of visibility and competitiveness, you have plenty of full time players on teams that have never reached those tournaments on those games.
I just don't see how a MMORPG has a place in the Esports scene to begin with. Mind you I'm not very keen on the esports scene in general, because I always liked playing games but never watching other play. That being said, I understand why some fps and mobas work so well in the competitive environment, you don't need to be good or even play much in order to see the high level of skill they're playing at.Wow is a very secluded scene made up of smaller niches. Casual solo players, rp players, pvpers, raiders, hardcore raiders, hardcore casuals, dungeoneers, people who just happily roll with their guilds/friends in whatever content, collectors, people who make machinimas and other wacky content etc... And that's divided amongst a particularly small pool of players (when you compare to things like CS).CS, OW, DOTA and whatever other esporty game all are played in one way, different levels sure, but just the one way. Just like actual sports, hence why it works.Wow needs content for its players, a lot more content. Not silly "esport" that more often than not have a negative impact on the game itself because everyone wants to copy their meta builds instead of just playing the game whoever they enjoy. There's obviously always going to be an element of playing the game the best way, Preach showed that in his statistics video on covenant choices, but this MDI stuff has a much worse impact I feel...Also like some people have said above, maybe streaming niche video games, or streaming at all content like that isn't quite a job yet. The fact that these people have an income for that is already a bit of a stretch... Oh well others make money out of just owning money and creating imaginary money out of thin air with interests, so hey, weird world...
Imagine getting paid to play video games and complaining it’s only $17.50/hour. Geez. Blizzard trying to turn non-competitive content into an esport is the reason it’s not popular. No one wants to sit around watching other nerds run the same dungeons you run every week.
Blizz or not MDI just seems boring to me, I see it on YT n MMOC but when I look at the advertisement I just go meh n move on, idk who problem it is or how it can be fix but most probably just don't care for esports in general, I can't speak for others but me for one I just don't find MDI, Arena or e-sports in general to be exciting or appealing, i'm that guy who would rather play/experience the game for myself.
IMO, Blizz just need to do something to make the MDI relatable to the actual game and use it as more of an advertisement than it currently is. Then, they could likely afford to pay players more. IMO, nobody gives a damn about it because there is literally nothing normal players can take from it. Also, there needs to be more recognition via some kind of leaderboard or in-game thing that would entice more people to care. There are multiple simple solutions, like removing gimmick mechanics like five Shadow Melds. Another thing would be to force players to play more classes and specs. There are all kinds of ideas and different ways that this could be implemented. Things like limiting the number of times teams can play particular classes or specs or even covenants per week/match. Players argue that they don't have time to practice enough, but if no players have enough time to practice, it is still fair. If someone does have time to practice all specs and classes, tough $%^&. You want more money, deal with it. Very few people want to see dungeons completed in 12 minutes 50 times by the same exact specs and then see that improved upon by 1 sec every week. Conversely, more players seeing their favorite classes played would mean more people wanting to play the game, which would mean more money. Even the people that watch now would be more excited, as new comps will keep it feeling fresh.
The sooner the players let this pipedream of wow esports die the better off the game will become. This constant looming presence of everything having to be esports viable has done absolutely 0 good for the game.Let these players drop out, let the MDI and AWS die, make game a proper game and not a #$%^ing esport again. I &*!@ing hate having to wait on balance changes just because the stupid MDI is about to happen in 2 weeks and we wouldn't wanna risk upsetting the precious balance and invalidating all the hard training these people have done - ^&*! 'em and fix your *!@#ing game now already.Designing every dungeon with the MDI in mind and stupid changes like the AoE cap or the tank threat thing solely because of what's been going on in the MDI have ruined dungeons. I couldn't give less of a %^&* about people struggling in the MDI environment. Let it. *!@#ing. Die.
There are some good suggestions up in these comments. In the end you know Blizzard is tight with handing out money. Their Esport has never been on the high end. Its a common. So either someone outside of blizzard picks this up and try's to make tournaments more valueble or deal with the fact that it hardly pays. And than its up to you how much time you wanna invest. Its not that blizzard has to pay for your time spend. Its the same with the world first race.
Well that's what Naowh gets for investing huge amount of time on a dog$%^& game nobody cares to watch. I play more wow then dota, but I watch Dota 10000x times more then I watch garbage wow "esports". I will never ever invest time in another blizzard game except diablo 4 (holding the ripcord), they are so bad now I feel ashamed I'm subbed to this company.
