So, Lilith and Inarius ended up getting into it because humanity feared the nephalem would attract angels and demons to sanctuary and wanted to kill them to prevent that. Lilith decide to kill THEM instead. But this is saying they are ALL her children, so it doesn't track for me.
Wow. So a roughly 50 year gap in the world of Sanctuary between D3 and D4. I wonder what happened to Tyrael in that time, considering he is supposedly mortal. Did he die? If so, did he transform BACK into an angel with his soul returning to the High Heavens?
I wish they'd retcon D3's story. Give themselves a starting chance. Start fairly fresh (the end of D2 gives you some options). Malthael who ? Leah wha ? Magda ? Nephalems ? Nah, we're just adventurers. To me, D3's story and '' lore '' was the low point of an already pretty low game (just my opinion, of course). Even Lorath coming from D3 makes me ishhh. The guy joking with Tyrael while you were in-and-out rifting ? Really ? But, I realize it might be too much to ask. A lot of D4 devs worked on D3. Would be a bit awkward to have to retcon the whole game you just made.
Weird timeline... everything thus far has happened in the span of around 20 years but now D4 suddenly jumps 50 years into the future? Also what's this about Malthael supposedly killing off most of humanity? From the perspective of playing the game he just wiped out Westmarch. Sounds like a lot of retconning going around, not thrilled about it, tbh.
I haven't played D3, and I understand it could have been a mistake or poor decision made by the devs, but how is the player character in that game a nephalem (as in, they apparently have enough power to stand apart from the descendants of the nephalem, humanity)? As I understand it, Inarius - fearing his children would grow more powerful than angels or demons - fettered their power using the Worldstone. This enraged Lilith, sparking their feud and causing Inarius to slay her. Then, centuries later, there was a nephalem whom Lilith tricked into, essentially, fighting to reclaim that locked away power. I can't remember if he succeeded, and even if he did, that power must have been taken back; otherwise, all humans by the time of D3/D4 would surely be nephalem.Maybe the D3 player character ate a shard of the shattered Worldstone, one that the player character in Diablo Immortal missed, and regained the nephalem strength locked within? And how can "the Lords of Hell are returning", what Lilith says to the people of Nevesk, be true if Diablo absorbed their essences in D3? And damn, Malthael really did a number on humanity.
OMG! Is that really that long ago?
