If tomorrow goes well, i'll pass my driver's exam and be able to play WoW right on time, good thing I got a bonus day off from work too.See you guys in "the squish"!
I was actually in game last night and people in General chat were asking when the patch started. In order to log in you have to run the battle launcher. It's very noticeable I couldn't figure out how anyone missed it. I guess pay attention to announcements and updates on the launcher.
Last long maintenance a few weeks ago was done in like 3 hours or less. Not saying it won't happen again given the size and complexity of this patch, but I will be keeping an eye on it.
Of course it is going to take a long time. They need all the users off so the databases are completely acquiesced, and to stop (or let complete) any background scripts, then backup the databases (vsnap or however they'll do it), then update the databases, test and validate, and still have enough maintenance window to have multiple go/no-go discussions, and extend as necessary.I accept that it's easy for me to say the above coming from an extensive IT background, but please cut them some slack - they dont want it to go badly any more than you or I do.Good luck Blizz bodies if you're reading this.
Man WTF doood
