So a form of chatroom/messenger in WoW. Not sure how i feel on that..
I'm digging it.My guild, for whatever reason, just hasn't warmed to Discord. We have one, but almost no one uses it. We're always on in-game chat to organise which isn't great. Having this communities feature would definitely help get us going.
The game needs more social tools indeed. I find it still is the most lacking feature in most MMO type games. They make a game designed to be played by many people but offer just the basics to find and build social groups...I look forward to this for finding PVP groups and raiding groups outside my normal guild group.
I'm assuming they've taken this from Diablo, which if implemented well will be huge for finding groups for things outside of your realm/guild and simply meeting people that share a specific interest. Great idea.
I wonder how it will work with factions. So for example, if I join group on my alliance character, I won't be able to see messages while playing horde alt?
Guilds for casual players like myself aren't that active. I've had two or three guilds go inactive after joining. If this new interface helps with getting groups to do content outside of LFR then I might like it
Why would anyone want to use the in-game voice/chat? So Blizzard can have a record of things you said and trolls can bait you and get you reported?
Well this is an IN game why to meet and talk with new people. It may evne be a good way to see how thye will act in a non game enviroment
I'm actually really excited for this feature. It will be nice to have an easier way to connect with other people who have similar goals and/or interests in-game.
I really don't like having to switch out of WoW to go into a chat program, then switch back. If it's ingame, for me anyway, it's preferable. Do I use discord? Totally. Lots of discord rp groups out there. Maybe if I had two monitors I wouldn't mind as much.
I'm on a rp server and while I'm sure there is some form of rp discord group. this I think will make it easier for new folks t break into the mold. I'm really looking forward to it for old content, new content and anything the community has to offer. For years folks have complained that wow lost the community feel. Well this could give it the boost to encourage and bring it back.
It's faster than linking Discord, they show up over chat in the game, along with voice. It also looks somewhat like a guild does now, with scheduling.
Will see, to date discord has completely trumped Blizzard's ability to display/store/share information. Why will this be different? Dunno, but I do see it being something some guilds try out. Just having wow-tips, notices, links, news, etc - this is nearly impossible to do in game with guilds - and that just makes no sense. The best we have is the guild calendar for limited information or to give notice for events (with very little info we can add to it).But if it is useful enough, maybe some mythic+ communities could form and share key information such as tips for affixes, etc.
Like the sounds of this myself. I do have Discord, but it's a pain to have tab in and out of game to use it while playing. I haven't bothered to log into Discord in a very long time because of that issue.
It will certainly be useful for roleplayers
