I hate this. I didn't even like that Ysera had to die, to begin with, and now Malfurion having to stay in Ardenweald only makes it more clunky, more out of place. Like, are you telling me that a demon throwing an artifact at her mid flight was all that it took to bring down the former green aspect? And, now, that Malfurion is just as important as Ysera is, and that he somehow has this convenient power to transfer Ysera's soul binding unto himself? It feels forced. It feels like there is no continuity anywhere, you just have to check in on people once every expansion and you'll know "oh, malfurion is sleeping. Oh, malfurion is awake now. Oh, malfurion lost against sylvanas. Oh, malfurion will stay off-screen for this expansion". It feels just like a status check, there's no fluidity and no purpose or direction in his story. He spent thousands of years away from Tyrande, but their love only grew. Then, they just spoke to each other affectively here and there and lead their forces and... nothing. No progress on their love, they don't have kids, they still have the same roles in their societies as they had before. All the story does is keep throwing defeats at them and breaking them apart for long periods of time.
We know that's a lie Danuser; You're literally spending Malfurion like currency to get Ysera back for your Aspect Power rangers squad, and when we get Malfurion back, IF we get him back, he'll do very very little because Danuser and the Californian soy latte crew cannot write a single non-effeminite male character.
Time for the green dragons to move on really, no need for this bull%^&*. Elune's pet can be returned by Elune herself if she so wills it and you can write something about this. Whatever order Elune belongs to.
Malfurion it's the worst non-genocide committing leader. He's short sighted, his hubris got Ysera and many others killed, his pride is so high he spit in the face of Illidans sacrifice again as well as his last goodbye. And I play alliance! He legit is mocking Xavius after being captured and getting Ysera killed by Xavius, without an ounce of self awareness how he caused all of it. Malfurion losing cause he pulled a Sayan pride victory into defeat got Teldrasil burned. Seriously, good riddance.
Have Ysera return, hug her sister Alexstrasza, tell her daughter Merithra that she believes in her, give Merithra her blessing to be the next Green Aspect, then #$%^ off back to Ardenweald for the foreseeable future. It's the only way to make things satisfying.
I love how one of Danuser's good points for this is for Malfurion to come out stronger; Why are we giving him more power?Give some powerups to Horde leaders once in a while maybe.
Why are they so afraid of building up new characters and--*looks at the tons of new characters added in last few expansions and how many of them were hated for stealing screen time..*Kay.I like this Ysera direction
Wow that’s… some bad writing. So what, they’re just gonna exile characters they don’t know what to do with to the Shadowlands from now on? First Sylvanas, then Anduin, now Malfurion? That way they don’t have to come up with new story arcs for them or work them into the current expansion. Very convenient for them but utterly underwhelming for those of us who want a side of story with our button mashing.
I've been skeptical but curious since they haven't done anything with malfurion in awhile besides make him a prop for someone else and hasn't really had any development, so i'd be interested in seeing what they do, but that said I haven't been interested in anything main story wise since legion.
The story has been pretty pitiful for years. I am shocked, nay appalled, that it isn’t better under the same leadership. Never mind, I’m not.
I hate that they spoiled this so plainly in an interview and just ruined what would have been a really impactful lore moment.
It is infuriating to me that he seems to understand he has to be internally consistent with his lore (ysera is in ardenweald bound to the realm, she can't just leave) -- but yet he does not have the awareness to see how it ruins the entire Ysera storyline to just shell-game her out of the afterlife using Malfurion's soul. It's like he hones in on the most "Metzen" things he can find in the storyline and then tries to "Danuser" them up. It's also frustrating Merithra basically gets no time in the spotlight, Beyond her minor part in the DF campaign. In particular, Metzen was very picky about how dragons were written and portrayed. A fan of saying, "Dragons don't work that way" when the devs would suggest doing crazy things with them. I do wonder how the ol' fella feels about this Dragonflight story, turning his gods into cheap conspiratorial villains, turning his favorite azerothian race into simple idiots controlled by the chemicals in the water.
I love the idea that Malfurion has to go away for extended periods of time, just because. He is arguably one of the most powerful beings in Azeroth, but the dude just wants to sleep all the time.
