The Cardboard Assassin, a Cataclysm Engineering enchant, has been nerfed in Patch 9.1. The former tank in Patch 9.0.5 now essentially gets 1-shot by any mob in the Shadowlands expansion!
Cardboard Assassin Nerf
The
Cardboard Assassin
enchant will be seeing a nerf in Patch 9.1, with it's level and health getting nerfed into the ground.
Cardboard Assassin's level has been reduced to
35
(was 60).
Cardboard Assassin's health has been reduced to
1,989
(was 11,792).
With the reduction to its level, this means that enemy attacks will no longer miss the
Cardboard Assassin
completely. In addition, with the reduced health, it will essentially get one-shot by the first swing that hits it. It may still be useful to soak a single large tankbuster, but that's about it!

Cardboard Assassin Controversy
In Patch 9.0,5 the
Cardboard Assassin
has been under some controversy, noting that Tank power is so weak at the moment that it needs to be supplemented with a profession item from several expansions ago. The enchant has been used to push Mythic+ keystones to the highest level possible and is so integral to Tank survivability, that the upcoming Mythic+ push tournament,
The Great Push
, added the
Cardboard Assassin
to the Tournament Realm.

Yeah, +15s are pretty easy. I facetank +15s on any tank above 210 ilvl. But even just a few keys higher, 19-20s you will struggle to do that in even optimal 226 gear. It scales pretty quick.
I've tanked for years. I regularly tank 21-22's this expansion, tanked 26-27's last expansion and could do higher but simply do not care it's easy content anyway.
If you're facetanking everything in +15s on any tank above 210 ilvl your healer probably %^&*ing hates you.
There are plenty of mobs that ignore armor or have a massive tank buster ability and honestly with any other tank than DK's I find myself having to get a few seconds away from the pack due to waiting for 1 minute cooldowns to come off, active mitigation to come off cooldown, or a specific debuff to drop. There is ABSOLUTELY an issue with the incoming tank damage in dungeons. There's 0 reason to buff tanks defensive value, they need to nerf all the incoming tank damage in dungeons.
