They revamped leveling in Shadowlands and want players to experience the pace they set, which is admittedly pretty fast. The whole point of heirlooms, for me, anyway, is you felt like you were breaking the rules. In Everquest they called it twinking, you'd give your alts super overpowered equipment and they'd just gleefully obliterate everything in their path. At inception heirlooms were like that, you felt overpowered in combat and you leveled much faster. Then they nerfed their power level, but kept the XP bonus, which was a bummer but fine, still more than worth using. And then they nerfed the XP bonus too, and at that point... why do heirlooms still exist?I feel like heirlooms still exist because players paid tens of thousands of gold for them and they'd rather keep them in a largely useless state than simply remove them. Same reason void storage is still in the game. Hey, remember void storage? Yeah, that is still a thing that exists too.
I wish they'd just set them to work till 60, and not make us go through another tier of upgrades. It's not even about the gold, but the annoyance.
One person came to the comments to complain about the game. The other came to complain about other posters. Which is worse? I know my vote is for the latter.
Only ones worth upgrading are the Hellscream ones. Too bad you cant get them anymore.
Like I said in my post, they used to be overpowered and fun, now they very much aren't.
to be honest, i dont see point of increasing my heirlooms after they nerfed their effects and set bonuses, yeah, the 40% stat is good, for those two minutes, but.. just. it sucks
Hardly worth the price anymore. Bring back OG, overpowered, easy xp BOA gear. Also can we put the archaeology BOA gear in the journal after we find it ? Ty
So they decreased the gold price to upgrade to 60 now worthless items.
SoO weapons aren't "definitely worth it". I have a bunch of them and do not plan to bother upgrading them to 60. They're a couple itemlvls higher than standard heirlooms at each level and have two gem sockets-- this is not an advantage that would make you sit up and take notice. The key point here is these items are only relevant while leveling, and leveling is pretty quick anyway. So you're paying 7.5k gold for what, 5% additional DPS for 8 hours of leveling? I have millions of gold sitting around and I don't think it's worth doing. Now back when heirlooms gave 50% bonus XP, yeah, I could see myself spending 40k gold to cut 4 hours off the leveling time for every alt of a given armor type. It's not much money for me, and the time saved would be significant, 8-12 hours for each 40k gold invested. But 5% DPS, how much time is that worth? Pfft.
I made a rather elaborate post about heirloom's usefulness not too long after they changed them.Tl;dr. No, heirlooms are no longer BiS, they're much less useful and depending on how you plan your leveling venture they're not even better. Imo, not the point. They're convenient. You don't have to change these slots every couple of levels; at level 1 you give them BiS enchants and you're good to go to 50 (60 coming .5 if you intend to). Currently, for ~90k you can upgrade general accessories to 50, all Garrosh weapons you need to 45 and one additional piece for the 3-set.
I don't think anyone is seriously saying they're useless, just that they're poor value. And they are.
