With Burning Crusade Classic's launch, many players are going through the Dark Portal for the first time or coming back to the game after a long hiatus. We're highlighting some general tips and terms for new players--this spotlight is on Bank Alts.
Bank Alts
A "Bank Alt" is just essentially another character that handles mail, auctions, and is extra bank storage for a main character. In Burning Crusade Classic, Blizzard added a very welcome quality of life change, allowing for
instant mail
between characters on the same account. This means you can quickly log out of your main character, hop on the bank alt, organize your mail, and then mail something back to your main instantly.
The reason this is a useful strategy for organizing your bags, while leveling you will come across many items and your bags will fill up very quickly, especially if your are leveling and carrying around a ton of quest items. To save you some time and help you level quicker, you can just instantly mail all random greens, gathering materials, cloth, and so on to your bank alt instantly and worry about organizing/putting it on the auction house later.
While raiding, you will need various consumables such as Flasks, Potions, and Food. Your bank alt can also store these items for you and mail them to you instantly, right before raid time. This will help keep your bank slots open on your main, that way you can store more gear, weapons, and trinkets. Some players will even go the extra mile to "dress up" their bank alts in items such as
Tuxedo Jacket
,
Tuxedo Pants
, and
Lovely Black Dress
. As well as various off-hand frills such as
Red Rose
or
Huge Spotted Feltail
.
Lastly, there are some ways you can make your Bank Alt more valuable to your main character, such as leveling your Bank Alt to Level 5, allowing you to pick up Enchanting. At level 5, you can learn Enchanting and Disenchant low level green items, turning them into potentially more valuable items.
