They are fearless. They are many. They are entire dimensions from home.
I'm talking about worgen, a race of wolf-men creatures which somewhat contrast the nature-loving furbolg (read about those furries
here
). Worgen are extra-dimensional creatures, as best our undead friends can tell, which exist for the sole purpose of destroying anything and everything they encounter. They were thought to be tame, or at least tame enough to be controlled for the purposes of good, but the worgen secretly mutinied against their new found masters.
Despite differences between furbolg, worgen, and myself there's one thing we all share in common—
we're really hungry!
Truth of the matter is that although their saliva is toxic, worgen don't really eat. Some unknown force allegedly sustains them because worgen, unlike zombies and wolves, do not feed upon their victims. Instead, they often shred their prey into pieces, tearing and gnashing at their bodies with great vehemence until they are completely disembodied. So while they do thirst for blood, they are quite magical which, of course, makes sense as we do know they arrived through a temporal rift of some sort. Very little is known about their origins, making them a natural shoe-in for a Scooby mystery.
E.D. Howl Home
Majority of the information obtained about worgen can be accredited to the deceased mage Ur of
Dalaran
. He was a strong-willed man who refused to act upon the information which he researched. His refusal to use such powerful knowledge ultimately led to his demise when the Scourge assaulted Dalaran. In his research,
Libro di Ur
, Ur stated his intentions were "to catalogue those beings, those otherworldly fiends who would destroy our lands, so that explorers who happen upon them will know what they face." Links to included quests or other in-game items will be at the end of the entry.
When Dalaran was destroyed by the Scourge, one man took chance to stand up against them in ways no other would dare.
Archmage Arugal
elected to pick the worgen, using Ur's research, summoning them to fight against their former allies--transformed into undead. However, this plan did not work as intended and the ferocious worgen turned against the wizards of Dalaran. Archmage Arugal survived, but eventually went insane, guilt-ridden over the horrific deaths of his comrades. Arugal took up residence at the castle of a former noble where he took in the worgen as children of his own. He placed a curse over the residents of Pyrewood Village in
Silverpine Forest
turning them into worgen under moonlight. Even to this day the citizens remain friendly humanoids by day and terrorizing beasts by night. What's more is that the ghost of the noble,
Baron Silverlaine
, is rumored to haunt the
Shadowfang Keep
. Local wizards at Ambermill speak rumors of an enormous dire wolf which howls every so often at night. Extreme caution is to be had by those venturing into the village or keep.
Roland's Doom
Meanwhile Velinde Starsong, a night elf priestess and sentinel, sought to snuff out the demon infestation overtaking
Felwood
. With great desperation she called out to Elune for help. Her prayers were answered when she received the Scythe of Elune, "an ancient thing, a branch, twisted and gnarled of wood that could be older than even the Kaldorei" and held the power to summon worgen. Scythe in hand and heart in tow, Velinde set out to cleanse Felwood of it's corruption with several packs of worgen at her side. Velinde Starsong took note of the alpha worgen in each pack and assigned them roles. Together, the many worgen coordinated their attacks, under her command, and the demons of Felwood began to wane in number. However, as time went on she noticed a pack of worgen missing. It was then she noticed the Scythe of Elune continued to summon worgen without her involvement. Puzzled and distraught, she ordered all of the remaining worgen to stay behind at the Shrine of Mel'Thandris in
Ashenvale
. Velinde then sought Archmage Arugal of whom she heard rumors concerning worgen when she could find no help in the libraries of Dalaran or from the Circle of the Ancients. What happened after she set out to the New World no one knows for sure.
