The Cataclysm pre-launch events are currently being tested on the PTR, so I decided to go ahead and look around. If you haven't been keeping up with all the details though, I recommend checking out the
Pre-Launch Events
on our
Cataclysm
guide.
To recap, the
Gnomes
are preparing for a mission to reclaim
, their home city once lost to
Mekgeniere Termospin
, while the
Trolls
are about to launch their own conquest to retake the Echo Isles, taken from them by
Zalazane
. On top of that, the Twilight's Hammer Cult will be meddling with all these affairs, too!
Having said all that, let's proceed to the details about
Operation: Gnomeregan
!
WARNING:
If you do not like spoilers, stop here. Otherwise, let's continue after the break!
Qualche buon Gnomo
The whole thing starts at Tinker Town, the gnomish district of
Forgiardente
.
Gran Meccanista Meccatork
is currently preparing for the retaking, and wants you to recruit a few gnomish civilians for the conquest. They are to be brought to Captain Tread Sparknozzle, who is organizing the recruitment outside near Kharanos.
After 'gathering' those
un
willing gnomish citizens (including a few malfunctions of the item used to 'recruit' them) and exiting Ironforge, you will notice that a training camp has been set up at Steelgrill's Depot near Kharanos.
Ordini di base
After reporting to Captain Tread Sparknozzle, the citizens happily trail off and you are sent to Drill Sergeant Steamcrank and ordered to follow his commands. As you can imagine, the image of a horde of gnomes roaring, cheering and dancing in unison is quite hilarious. (
Bystanders
were quite annoying, though.)
After those exercises, you report back to Captain Tread Sparknozzle in order to accept your next quest.
Dentro e fuori
In this (
naughtily named
) quest you are to play the guinea pig for several newly built battle tanks. You have to test the ejector seat system several times, test the maneuverability (
Un passo avanti...
), and finally participate in target shooting (
Premi Fuoco
). The battle tanks are right next to the quest giver, Sparknozzle.
Return to him after you are done.
P.S.: gnomes fail at aiming.
Ventilazione forzata
The next quest is available from Pilot Muzzlesprocket. Here you are to board 'Thunderflash', a gnomish
helicopter
, and fly to Gnomeregan in order to examine the radiation levels through the air vents. We don't want the whole army to run into death, do we? Toss the Radiageigatron with the cursor near some of the radiation-infested gas churning out. Return to Pilot Muzzlesprocket, who then gives the green light to continue.
Preparazione del discorso
After the flight quest, the next quest becomes available from Toby Zeigear. He asks you to present a few of High Tinker Mekkatorque's speeches to three gnomes and return with the feedback. As you can see, they clearly are not very impressed. You return to Toby Zeigear with the bad news, who shrugs it off and gives you a new speech.
Una consegna verbale
Toby Zeigear then sends you to Captain Tread Sparknozzle, who approves the script. He proceeds to task you with flying with the 'Thunderflash' to the battlefield to reach High Tinker Mekkatorque and convey the speech script to him.
Operazione Gnomeregan
This is the real deal. After handing in the speech script and accepting the quest, High Tinker Mekkatorque will give the starting signal for the operation to begin. First you are to clear the airfield, destroy the rocket launchers (which are being defended by irradiated infantry), and retake the air towers to make aerial support possible.
When that stage is taken, the ground base needs to be conquered, additional rockets destroyed, and finally the tunnels reached.
Large waves of irradiated troggs (and one particularly big trogg) are hindering the army's progress, but they don't pose any real threat. Inside, Mekkatorque finds a large construct, identified as an irradiator. Additional irradiated troops continue to pester the army, when suddenly a timer begins counting down on the irradiatot. Mekkatorque tries to stop it, but at Thermaplugg's command, the timer shortens from 10 minutes to 10 seconds, forcing the army to take an emergency teleport outside.
The mission is partially failed—they were successful in gaining control over the surface of Gnomeregan, but unable to take the city itself back. Now, the King of the gnomes sits once again on his bolt throne, brooding and plotting a new attack. When you hand in the quest, he swears that it will not be long until the gnomes reclaim Gnomeregan fully.
So, now that you've read this (long) text and seen the pictures,
what do you think?
If you haven't tested yet, are you looking forward to the pre-launch event? Why or why not? What did you expect instead? It's your turn to share your thoughts!
