New toys and consumables celebrating World of Warcraft's 20th Anniversary have been discovered on the Patch 11.0.5 PTR, including the return of the famous Mohawk Grenade!
Based on the
video reveal
, these items
may
be purchased with
s, however this is unconfirmed, as the
official blog
also cites a new
currency used to purchase new items like the updated tier sets.
Replicating the Bladestorm-like animation of the
from Scarlet Monastery, one of the more popular weapons of Vanilla WoW, its unique effect was a very powerful source of area of effect damage that was otherwise much more limited in early versions of the game, used even at maximum level due to its deceptively high damage potential. Removed in Patch 5.0.4, wherein the original four Scarlet Monastery instances were updated and combined into The Scarlet Halls and Scarlet Monastery, the
dropped in its place, but lacked the iconic spinning effect.
Blades of Light!
While the original instances and the
dropped inside
became obtainable again in Patch 10.1.7
, the chance on hit effect is now limited to level 49 or below and the weapon itself fails to keep up with modern standards, making this toy a much more preferred way of reliving the original spin-to-win.
Sharing a name with several other items coming during the anniversary event, this toy allows players to equip a set of Blizzard Bling, an in-game representation of the physical 5-year sword, 10-year shield, and 20-year helmet given to employees in honor of their service with the studio.
The mark of a true veteran.
The
,
, and
are also obtainable as normal cosmetic items during the event, allowing players to transmog them directly.
Named for
from Dire Maul, this dire brew causes the player to take on the form of an Ogre for 10 minutes, similar to the original
introduced in Patch 1.3.0.
Long live da new king!
Outside of its intended purpose in completing Tribute runs, the Ogre transformation was quite popular among players due to its unique animations, particularly a (at the time) unique dance, made famous by celebrated comedian Chris Farley during a 1990 Saturday Night Live sketch alongside actor Patrick Swayze. Otherwise only available to the Druid Moonkin form, this was a source of great entertainment to many players throughout the early years of WoW.
You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
A consumable instead of a permanent toy, players should at least be able to stockpile extras in their bank for future use. If that isn't enough ogre for you, the
obtained from the eponymous
in the Arathi Highlands drops a similar permanent transformation toy providing an up-armored appearance.
A long requested return, the original
was added in Patch 3.2.2 as part of a promotion with actor Mr. T. Following the success of his
first commercial promoting the game
in 2007, the bombastic hype man returned in 2009 to promote the addition of the new toy, obtainable from
NPCs in each of the starting zones. Unfortunately, the item had a strict one day duration, and the NPC they were obtained from was removed in late January 2010.
Mr. T has the greatest hair in the world! It's been proven by science, fool!
The new version returning for WoW's 20th Anniversary isn't actually a fully-fleshed out toy either, suggesting that it will also become unobtainable once the event end. Although this version has no expiration, they are soulbound and players are limited to carrying only 25 at a time, so enjoy them while they last!
Behold the power of the Night Elf Mohawk!
Finally, players can celebrate 20 years of World of Warcraft by throwing down a chest filled with balloons.
A must have part of any birthday event.
