With 7.1.5 around the corner, we've asked our Havoc and Vengeance guide writers to break down the Patch 7.1.5 changes in more detail so you are prepared for the upcoming patch! In this post,
Kib
and
Munkky
will go over the impact of changes to Demon Hunter abilities, legendaries, talents, and stats.
Class Tools
Havoc
Talents
Honor Talents
Artifact Calc
Colère des demi-géants
:
Demon's Bite generates an additional 1 to 20 Fury 14 Fury.
Demon Blades generates an additional 1 to 12 Fury 8 Fury.
Summary: Small nerf but still the best single target legendary and while it may not be top DPS for sustained AoE you will still always want it equipped for any raid scenarios if you've been lucky enough to acquire one.
NEW
Folie des grandeurs
The remaining cooldown on
Métamorphose
is reduced by 1 sec for every 15 30 Fury you spend.
Summary: Currently an other really strong legendary. At the original 15 fury / 1 sec it was ridiculously strong but at the current 30 fury / 1 sec the shoulders are more in line. The power obviously come from gaining extra Metamorphosis up time. Our second “BIS” legendary any time they allow an extra Metamorphosis.
Sacrifice de Loramus Thalipedes
Fel Rush deals 5% 10% increased damage to each subsequent target hit.
Summary: Not much to say here, damage boost. Welcomed buff.
Cinidaria, le symbiote
Your attacks cause an additional 30% damage to enemies above 90% health and heal you for 100% of the damage done.
Summary: No change DPS wise, nice defensive buff. Remains a very strong legendary for Havoc DPS wise.
Secret de Sephuz
Successfully applying a loss of control effect to an enemy, interrupting an enemy, or dispelling any target grants you 70% increased movement speed and 15% 25% Haste for 10 sec. This effect may occur once every 30 sec.
Summary: Pretty good buff for Sephuz’s. The interrupt adds a very reliable way to proc the ring. The proc is Haste which isn’t the best stat for us but it’s basically a potential 33% up time mini-bloodlust, definitely not to overlook.
Prydaz, chef-d'œuvre de Xavaric
After not taking damage for 5 sec, you Every 30 sec, gain an absorb shield for 15% 25% of your maximum health for 30 sec. This effect may occur once every 30 sec. Also now has Haste in addition to Critical Strike and Mastery.
Summary: Good defensive proc. The real power from this item comes from the triple stats on it though. Really nice “stat stick” legendary item if you do not have 2 better “DPS” legendary. Definitely a good legendary to have in your bags at all time.
NEW
Souhait ardent de Kil'jaeden
Use: Launch a vortex of destruction that seeks your current enemy. When it reaches the target, it explodes, dealing a critical strike to all enemies within 10 yds for (203805 * 200 / 100) Fire damage. (1 Min, 15 Sec Cooldown)
Summary: Looking really strong on cleave encounters, mostly due to the explosion having no target cap. This legendary on multiple members of your raid has the potential to alter boss strategies by simply deleting adds.
Danse des lames
0Strike all nearby enemies for (100% + 23 * 96% + 288%) Physical damage, and increase your chance to dodge by 100% for 1 sec.
Summary: 1.2% nerf to Blade Dance… not much to say here.
Frappe du chaos
Slice your target for (275% + 440%305% + 485%) Chaos damage. Critical strikes refund 20 Fury.
Summary: 10% buff to our major spender, very welcome buff :D
Coups critiques
Increases your chance to critically strike by 10%5%.
Summary: FeelsBadMan.
Ténèbres
Summons darkness around you in an 8 yd radius, cloaking friendly targets and grantinggranting friendly targets a 20% chance to avoid all damage from an attack. Lasts 8 sec.
Emprisonnement
Imprisons a demon, beast, or humanoid for 1 min. Damage will cancel the effect. Limit 1.
Cooldown changed from 10 sec cooldown to 15 sec cooldown
Maîtrise : Présence démoniaque
Increases your Chaos damage by 8%11% and your movement speed by 8%.
Métamorphose
Leap into the air and land with explosive force, dealing (200% of Attack power) Chaos damage to enemies within 8 yds, and stunning them for 3 sec.
Upon landing, you are transformed into a hellish demon for 30 sec, greatly empowering your Chaos Strike and Blade Dance abilities, and gaining 25% Haste.gaining 30% Leech, and 25% Haste.
Summary: 30% leech baseline when Meta is active, cool?
Furie aveugle
Increases the duration of Eye Beam by 50%.Eye Beam generates 35 Fury every sec. and its duration is increased by 50%.
Summary: Really good change to this talent. Going from spending 50 fury to gain 5 extra ticks of Eye Beam to spending 50 fury to gain 5 extra ticks, and generating fury back is obviously really strong. Currently looking really good for aoe.
Increases all damage done by 8%11% (based on Mastery) for 12 sec.
While active, your auto attack deals 200% increased damage, and causes Chaos damage.
Summary: 3% baseline buff to reflect the Mastery baseline buff. Big change not listed is the removal of the “snapshotting” aspect of Chaos Blades, the buff is now updating dynamically with your mastery levels.
Enchaînement du chaos
Chaos Strike hits an additional target for 50% damage.all nearby enemies for an additional 25% damage.
Moved to Tier 3 Talent, in place of
Gangrelame
Summary: Very strong buff to a talent that was mostly unused. Something that keep in mind is the new functionality of the talent that might be unclear from the tooltip. The talent basically functions as an aura around your character. What this means is that it will affect your single target Chaos Strike as well since the target of your Chaos Strike will obviously be inside of the "aura” radius. Currently looking to be the cookie cutter talent after reaching a good amount of Mastery.
Lames du démon
Your auto attacks have a 75%65% chance to deal additional Shadow damage and generate Fury.
Summary: Straightforward nerf here. Less procs = less generation less overall damage. Still very strong and somewhat dependant on crit levels.
Démoniaque
Eye Beam causes you to enter demon form for 58 sec after it finishes dealing damage.
Summary: Pretty nice change to Demonic, sadly not enough to push this talent as the go to like it once used to be back on the beta. Shame this talent is really fun to play around. We will see how things develop though. *Important* note though is that now Demonic does extend the duration of Metamorphosis is procced inside of Metamorphosis.
Appétit démoniaque
Chaos Strike has a 25% chance to spawn a Lesser Soul Fragment, and consuming any Soul Fragment grants 3035 Fury.
Summary: Very significant change here, previously Demonic Appetite had a 15 sec ICD. 7.1.5 removed this ICD and buffs the fury gain. Do not be fooled by sims, playing around picking up the souls spawned adds a lot of complexity to the already very mobile play style of Havoc.
Instinct désespéré
Blur now reduces damage taken by an additional 15%. Additionally, you automatically trigger Blur when you fall below 35% health. This effect can occur every 30 secwhen Blur is not on cooldown.
Summary: Pretty good buff and also not replacing Blur anymore.
Barrage gangrené
At your command, unleash Fel, inflicting 250%300% of Attack power)] Chaos damage to your target and nearby enemies for each charge. Max 5 charges.
Your damaging abilities have a chance to generate a charge.
Éruption gangrenée
Impales the target for (1050%1365% of Attack power) Chaos damage and stuns them for 2 sec. Inflicts an additional 100% damage against targets permanently immune to stuns.
Cooldown changed from 35 sec cooldown to 30 sec cooldown
Summary: Pretty sizable buff to Fel Eruption but competing against Nemesis and Momentum means that this talent will remain very rarely optimal.
Premier sang
Reduces the Fury cost of Blade Dance by 20 and increases its damage to 200 300) / 100] against the first target struck.
Summary: An other very strong buff to a previously unused talent with a lot of potential. Currently looking like a strong contender to be the go-to talent early on in the patch before moving into Chaos Cleave after getting enough mastery.
Increases damage you inflict against the target by 20%25% for 1 min.
When the target is slain, you will inflict 20%25% additional damage against all creature types matching the original target (Humanoid, Dragonkin, etc.) for the remaining duration.
Summary: Straightforward buff here. Looking like this buff with the removal / change of the Demon Speed artifact trait is looking like it will be enough to push Nemesis as the go-to single target talent.
Marche du Néant
Slip into the nether, increasing movement speed by 100% and becoming immune to damage, but unable to attack. Lasts 5 sec.
Cooldown changed from 1.5 min cooldown to 2 min cooldown
Déchirement de l’âme
Gain 100%70% Leech while Metamorphosis is active.
Summary: Not much changed here, 7.1.5 brings Metamorphosis a 30% baseline leech passive, so still 100% leech while using the talent.
Vitesse démoniaque
Activating Netherwalk / Blur generates 2 charges of Fel Rush. Blur now grants a 30% movement speed bonus.
Summary: Movement speed, cool? It’s not like Havoc is lacking mobility… This change mostly affects Momentum builds since it removes 2 fel rushes per minutes which is roughly 10% uptime nerf to Momentum.
Habits de seconde vue
:
2pc
Item - Demon Hunter T19 Havoc 2P Bonus
: Your Fury generation from all abilities is increased by 10%.
Summary: Very nice 2pc bonus. Pretty buggy currently but hopefully everything gets sorted out before Nighthold.
Furie aveugle
does not benefit from 2pc
Frappe du chaos
refunds do not benefit from 2pc
Torrent arcanique
does not benefit from the 2pc
Colère des demi-géants
’s does not benefit from 2pc
4pc
Item - Demon Hunter T19 Havoc 4P Bonus
: Increases your Chaos Strike critical strike chance by 10%.
Summary: Currently the 0pc to 2pc is roughly a 3% gain and 2pc to 4pc a 8% gain, with the 0pc to 4pc being a total gain of around 11%. Both sets are mechanically strong toward the toolkit of Havoc and the 4pc makes the rotation noticeably more fluid which is always nice on top of a good damage increase.
Stats for 7.1 were: Crit >= Vers > Haste >= Mastery
In 7.1.5 this will change to:
(with tier) Crit = Mastery > Haste >= Vers
(without tier) Crit > Mastery > Haste >= Vers
As expected once we aquire our set bonus the value of Mastery increases due to the "free" crit we are getting on the 4pc bonus.
Summary: Secondaries stats will not see much of a change for Havoc beside the large buff to scaling to mastery pushing the stat to compete with Critical Strike as the best DPS stat.
All things considered I feel like Havoc is in a really good place mechanically in 7.1.5, the changes to many talents open up build diversity mostly depending on which legendary your character has acquired which is in my opinion a good thing.
I am personally mostly looking forward to 7.1.5 because of Nighthold and the new encounters but the Havoc changes are nothing to be upset about.
If you want more info on talent builds, math, sims, etc. Discord is the best place to get this info. You can find the invitation link to discord in the complete Havoc guide mentioned above.

Talents
Honor Talents

Espauliers de maître des runes
- Metamorphosis resets the remaining cooldown on all your Sigils and Empower Wards, and grants you 1 charge of Demon Spikes.
Summary: You get 1 charge of Demon Spikes and 1 charge of Empower Wards, both of which would have charged/almost charged all the way by the end of Meta. They aren't needed during Meta except for very specific niche scenarios. This can be used in dungs for more CC. However it will still be largely considered the worst legendary.
NEW
Esprit de la flamme noire
- Your Fiery Brand now heals you for 100% of the damage done and each enemy hit by your Sigil of Flame increases the instant damage of your next Fiery Brand by 15%, stacking up to 15 times.
Summary: Pretty good on AoE. Can be a decent sized heal at full stacks and especially if it crits. This is only the INSTANT damage -
Brûlé vif
is not buffed by this. Not the greatest on single target. This legendary is less damage than
Cinidaria, le symbiote
on single target. This works very well with
Kirel Narak
,
Déferlante de flammes
and
Frappe abyssale
allowing you to get maximum uses out of it. This will be used more for the heal than the damage.
NEW
Haine renouvelée d'Archimonde
- Gain an absorb shield for 30% of your maximum health for 10sec. When the shield is consumed or expires, 75% of the damage absorbed is dealt to nearby enemies, split evenly. (1 Min, 15 Sec Cooldown)
Summary: Looking to be the strongest Legendary. It also snapshots Meta buffs, so it will most likely be used at the tail end of a
Attisé par la souffrance
proc in order to maximize the shield and damage. The cd also lines up fairly well with
Attisé par la souffrance
s 1 RPPM. This does not proc
Lames de guerre calcinées
, however
Trépas enflammé
does buff it. This also procs leech effects, i.e. Soul Rending/Ring. This is the highest damaging legendary for Vengeance.
Cinidaria, le symbiote
- Your attacks cause an additional 30% damage to enemies above 90% health and heal you for 100% of the damage done.
Summary: Yayy leech for the first 20 sec of a fight where you are already incredibly strong… I guess… This does not proc base leech. Still going to be one of the better ones for damage.
Secret de Sephuz
- Successfully applying a loss of control effect to an enemy, interrupting an enemy, or dispelling any target, grants you 70% increased movement speed and 25% Haste for 10 sec. This effect may occur once every 30 sec.
Summary: Much better than live. The interrupt is amazing for us, and this will be procable on cooldown on trash as all sigils effect it as well as the interrupt. All non-Flame sigils proc this as well as our interrupt. Allowing closer to maximum uptime on the effect when trash is available. This also makes it even more imperative that DH get included in the interrupt rotation.
Prydaz, chef-d'œuvre de Xavaric
- Every 30 sec, gain an absorb shield for 15% of your maximum health for 30 sec.
Summary: This is also improved over live as well. You can play around the cd and use it as a cooldown or instead of AM. Allowing you to recharge your
Pointes démoniaques
charges or whatever CD you may have used otherwise. This does snapshot Meta if you have meta up at the 30 second mark. It also puts the shield on you at all times and not just during combat. Meaning you can go into the pull with a full shield and close to the 30 second rebuff mark in order to maximize the effectiveness of the buff. Effectively giving you over 1m damage buffer at the start of the fight.
Chasseur de démons Vengeance
Passive Aura - +9% Damage/Healing buff
Effects: Fiery Brand , Immolation Aura , Infernal Strike , Soul Cleave , Illidan’s Grasp , Shear , Sigil of Flame , Felblade, Fracture, Soul Carver, Spirit Bomb, Throw Glaive, Fel Eruption.
Fel Eruption and Felblade are still reduced in damage.
Pointes démoniaques
Surge with fel power, increasing your Parry chance by 20% and reducing Physical damage taken by 20%10% for 6 sec.
Summary: Nerf that was needed to help future proof us. Sucks it happened now but whatever. By future proofing, I mean that it helps us from scaling as fast to the point of taking no physical damage. Otherwise we could see Launch levels of Damage Reduction.
Protections démoniaques
Your tattoos reduce magicall damage taken by 10%, and increase your Stamina by 45%55% and your Armor by 120%.
Summary: Few hundred thousand more health is welcome. More physical resist making
Pointes démoniaques
downtime not feel as bad.
Métamorphose
Transform to demon form for 15 sec, increasing current and maximum health by 30% and Armor by 100%, and greatly empowering your Shear ability. Generates 7 Pain every 1 sec.
Summary: One of the big boys. Double armor granting roughly 15% additional armor damage reduction depending on how much you have. Very welcome and makes Soul Rending worse than it is now. Doesn’t require Soul Rending to be as useful anymore.
Section
(Empowered Shear) - Strike an enemy for 324% Physical damage and shatter a Lesser Soul Fragment from your target. Generates 10 pain.
Summary: 15% more damage than
Entaille
. Generates the same pain, and every cast spawns a Lesser Soul Fragment instead of just being a chance.
Frappe abyssale
Infernal Strike's range is increased by 10 yards, and its cooldown is reduced by 58 sec.
Summary: Goes from 1 extra
Frappe infernale
to 2 extra
Frappe infernale
per minute. This is going to be good for sustained AoE.
Flammes déchirantes
Immolation Aura increases your movement speed by 30%, and deals 30%20% increased damage.
Summary: Nerfed and will probably not see play.
While Demon Spikes is active, you deal 20%30% increased Physical damage and your melee attacks snare targets by 50% for 6 sec.
Summary: With
buffed and our uptime on
Pointes démoniaques
buffed, this will be the go to for Single Target and for Burst AoE. Making this the new primary choice in this row.
Brûlé vif
- IS ONLY A WORD CHANGE, DOES NOT CHANGE THE ABILITIES USE!!!
Summary: The cd reduction is bigger than it looks. This allows us to use it on cooldown, and have it line up with every Fiery Brand, to get the damage increased by Fiery Demise. This will be the go to for Single Target. Razor Spikes does not buff this. Charred Warblades is procced by this.
- 40 pain cost to 20 pain cost
Summary: Half the pain cost. Makes this viable for Survival and a big damage gain. This is the DPS choice for this row. This will also work well with maintaining Spirit Bomb as well as having souls available once Soul Barrier comes up.
Sigil de chaînes
- 1 min cd to 1.5 min cd
Summary: Still going to be used when you need it, doesn’t really change its use, just the amount of times you can use it.
Dévastation gangrenée
is in the same location as live. It will also still be the go to for many in this row, however
can compete for smoother/overall healing. Making it slightly more of a preference row.
Déviation de lame
Parrying an attack increases the Pain generation of your next Shear by 50%70%.
Summary: It is meant to be a smoothing talent, which will be better with the extra 2 pain per buffed Shear and the increased uptime on Demon Spikes, however this does not help it’s viability versus the other two choices in this row.
Launch a nearby Soul Fragment at your target, dealing (252% of Attack power) ShadowFire damage to all nearby enemies and afflicting them with Frailty for 15 sec.20 sec. You heal for 15%20% of all damage you deal to enemies with Frailty.
Summary: Fire damage is nice for
Trépas enflammé
spam, however outside of that, minor
Lames de guerre calcinées
buff. Increased uptime on debuff means it goes from 4 souls per minute to 3 souls per minute for 100% uptime. Buff to 20% healing means it competes even more so with
Dévastation gangrenée
for healing. This can also compete with
Dévastation gangrenée
for overall dps on AoE, however with the buffs to
and AM uptime, they are extremely close, with
Dévastation gangrenée
pulling ahead slightly in general. This will be a preference choice between
Dévastation gangrenée
and
.
Dernier recours
- Cd changed from 3 min to 8 min.
Summary: RIP Cheat Death. This will still be used in raids on certain fights or during progress, however it is not as strong as on live and will most likely see little to no dungeon play. This will still be many players go to due to the ability to save a battle res, it just won’t be the absolute best for most fights as on live.
NEW
Infusion démoniaque
(replacing Nether Bond) - 2m cd instant - Draw from the power of the Twisting Nether to instantly activate and then refill your charges of Demon Spikes. Generates 60 pain.
Summary: Gives 15% uptime if used on cooldown and properly. Will be good for heavy physical damage fights. However this gets nerfed once we acquire the Tier. This will see some use, however I am not confident that it will see major use once the Tier becomes a factor outside of as the dps talent in the row. Meaning this will most likely see its most use during farm in conjunction with
.
- Shield yourself for 12 sec, absorbing 1500%*AP 2250%*AP damage. Consuming a Soul Fragment adds 250%*AP to the shield. Soul Barrier’s absorption cannot be reduced below 200%*AP 300%*AP. Consumes all Soul Fragments within 25 yds. CD changed from 20 to 30 seconds.
Summary: One of the other controversial talents. It got decent buffs on the top and bottom end. With Fracture, you can start this with 5 souls and use it in conjunction with Soul Carver for even more healing. This is viable in 7.1.5. And will see play, especially on magic heavy fights.
Habits de seconde vue
:
2pc
Item - Demon Hunter T19 Vengeance 2P Bonus
:
Division de l’âme
refunds 5 pain.
When you cast
Division de l’âme
, you immediately get 5 pain back. It doesn’t matter whether you cast a 30 pain Soul Cleave or 60 pain Soul Cleave.
4pc
Item - Demon Hunter T19 Vengeance 4P Bonus
:
Division de l’âme
reduces the remaining cooldown of Demon Spikes by up to 3 sec, based on pain spent.
At 60 pain it reduces your cd by 3 seconds. At 30 pain it reduces it by 1.5 seconds. Assuming you use this 1 time per
Division de l’âme
you will get roughly 20% uptime bump in
Pointes démoniaques
uptime. That is assuming 0 Haste. This will be a MUST have.
Stats for 7.1 Raid Survival were: Vers > Haste > Mastery > Crit
In 7.1.5 this has changed to:
(with tier) Mastery > Vers > Haste > Crit
(without tier) Vers > Haste = Mastery > Crit
Stats for 7.1 M+ Dungeons were: Mastery > Crit (DPS) = Vers (Survival) > Haste
In 7.1.5 M+ Survival changed to: Mastery > Vers >= Haste > Crit
Stats for 7.1 DPS: Crit >= Mastery/Vers >= Haste
In 7.1.5 changed to: Crit >= Versa >= Mastery >= Haste
Caveats for Surv and DPS stat priorities:
Survival - Mastery to the point in which you do not need anymore DR on DS. Personal Preference. No ratios or percentages to hit.
DPS - All the stats scale off each other, DO NOT go 100% into each one. Follow the prio. No ratios or percentages to hit.
In summary, Vengeance is looking strong in 7.1.5., and currently stands to perform well in the upcoming Nighthold raid. Our mitigation was overall improved. Talent choices are broader and based even more on preference than they currently are on Live. The skill cap for survivability has been reduced greatly (especially after acquiring the tier) which simultaneously increases the the skill cap for pure dps (meaning that farm won’t get boring as quickly). It’s a good time to be a Demon Hunter!
