Track your Heirlooms on Wowhead; New Daily Quest and Pepe Guides; Harrison Jones Hotfix
We've expanded Profiler collections yet again! Track your heirloom collection on Wowhead now via the
Profiler
to make getting
Chauffeured Chopper
easier and keep your upgrades organized.
On your Battle.net profile page, there's a new Heirlooms tab:
Track which heirlooms you've acquired and sort by source.
Keep track of which heirlooms you've upgraded to 1/2 and 2/2 with our completion column and progress bars.
Garrosh heirlooms do not count towards your total but are tracked with the tool if you have them.
Check out the
Profiler FAQ
for how to set heirloom tracking up! More details under the cut.
More 6.1 Guides
We have even more 6.1 guides for you based on what players are asking us about!
In addition to his
6.1 Heirlooms Collection Guide
, Xabidar has updated his guide to
all the in-game heirlooms
.
Our
Guide to Town Hall Daily Quests
covers the basics and rewards for Dungeon, Raid, Relic, Profession, and Bounty quests. Do note that many of the rewards have changed since PTR previews and recent patch notes!
Finally, Serrinne has a guide to
obtaining the Trans-Dimensional Bird Whistle
aka Perma-Pepe! She explains the achievement and ranks each boss you need to defeat by difficulty.
We've added these guides to our
Patch 6.1 Survival Guide
--if you leave a comment over on that post (not this one!) on your favorite thing in 6.1, you could win a

Blizzard's 6.1 Heirloom System Preview, Friday Update Arcade, Blackrock Foundry Tuning
Blizzard has previewed the heirloom system coming in Patch 6.1. While not much has changed
since our own Heirloom preview several weeks ago
, it's a good recap.
We also have the latest episode of
Friday Update Arcade
--catch up on the recent news in videogames!
Finally, we've added a detailed post by Lead Game Designer Ion Hazzikostas on Blackrock Foundry tuning and difficulty perceptions.
Blackrock Foundry Tuning Summary
Here's the highlights from the detailed Blackrock Foundry tuning post, which you can read in full
towards the end of this post
. If you need help killing bosses, check out our
Blackrock Foundry boss guides
.
Blackrock Foundry
is not meant to make Highmaul obsolete--it is a direct continuation of progression.
Blackrock Foundry
is a winged instance, not a linear one. All wings should be of equal difficulty, with end-wing bosses harder than the starter bosses. This means that
Blast Furnace
,
Kromog
, and
Iron Maidens
are harder.
The start of Normal
Blackrock Foundry
is designed to feel challenging to a group that enters with Normal Highmaul gear, and progressively gets harder.
Bosses deeper into the instance are intended for a higher ilvl, which players don't have at the start of a raid tier. End-wing bosses on Heroic are designed for the raid to have a significant amount of ilvl 680 gear as well as some tier bonuses.
Some bosses in
Blackrock Foundry
are demanding and will receive adjustments going into the raid lockout next week.
6.1 Heirloom System
Heirloom Hoarder
, collect 35 heirlooms, rewards the
Chauffeured Chopper
. This is a special mount level 1 players can use and it is driven by
Koak Hoburn
(H) or
Franklin Martin
(A).
New base heirlooms purchased from vendors for gold
in 6.1 scale from 1-60. If you've previously had a level 80 or 85 heirloom, it will turn into a level 90 heirloom in 6.1.
Heirlooms can be upgraded to level 90 (
Ancient Heirloom Armor Casing
and
Ancient Heirloom Scabbard
) and level 100 (
Timeworn Heirloom Scabbard
and
Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing
) via quests and Holiday currencies. They are also for sale from vendors, but we're unsure if this is just for testing purposes.
Previously enchanted heirlooms keep their enchants. You can generate new unenchanted copies via the heirloom UI.
Get started collecting all the available heirlooms with our
Heirloom Guide
.
We've also made the heirloom system easier to understand on Wowhead.
If you visit any of the
new heirloom pages on the PTR
, such as
Tattered Dreadmist Robe
, you can click on the "Item Versions" section to bring up versions for Upgrade Level 1 (
Tattered Dreadmist Robe
) and Upgrade Level 2 (
Tattered Dreadmist Robe
). This works for the heirloom scaling slider, tooltips, and links.
We've also displayed source information in the heirloom tooltips as many vendors have changed.
6.1 PTR: Build 19533, New Mount, Blackrock Foundry Testing, January 27th Hotfixes
Blizzard has
teased an upcoming mount on Twitter
. No further details, but there is the datamined placeholder
Mystic Runesaber
we're keeping an eye on.
We also have information on the latest PTR build which includes many spell changes described in the patch notes, details on upcoming Blackrock Foundry testing, as well as January 27th hotfixes.

Build Highlights
New achievements for collecting heirlooms, including
Heirloom Hoarder
which rewards the
Chauffeured Chopper
mount which is usable by lvl 1 players. The mount journal text, as seen on
Summon Chauffeur
, is "Why drive yourself around when you can hire someone to do it for you?" and
Koak Hoburn
is the driver! The 6.1 PTR notes stated that the mount would require all heirlooms collected, but
Heirloom Hoarder
is just for 35 which is a bit easier.
New achievements for collecting Music Tunes--20 tunes rewards the
Portable Audiophone
toy.

Items used to reroll crafted stats are easier to make--the items required from Work Orders/daily cooldowns have been removed.
The fishing changes from the last build have been reverted, and

6.1 PTR Realms Up, New Heirloom Tab, Raiding with Leashes Sources and 3D Models, Twitter In-Game
The 6.1 PTR realms are now up! We were able to check out the new Heirloom tab,
Raiding with Leashes III: Drinkin' From the Sunwell
pets, in-game Twitter UI, and
Voidtalon of the Dark Star
. We've also added
quests and NPCs
to our PTR database.
We've been updating this post throughout the day with PTR discoveries, but we have even more information in our
recent datamining post
on new Garrison missions, battle pets, mounts, and more!
Heirloom Tab
The new heirloom tab is a tab accessed from the Collections button. This stores all of your heirlooms in a central place and frees up bag space.
The base versions of heirlooms scale from 1-60.
to see the list of 1-60 heirlooms. Your old heirlooms will
not
decrease to 1-60, they start at 85 as 1/2 upgraded.
Heirlooms can be upgraded twice--based on datamining it appears they can be upgraded to 85, and then again to 100.
These are the two tokens to upgrade your heirlooms to 85:
Ancient Heirloom Armor Casing
and
Ancient Heirloom Scabbard
.
These are the two tokens to upgrade your heirlooms to 100:
Timeworn Heirloom Scabbard
and
Timeworn Heirloom Armor Casing
.
There are options to filter by heirlooms appropriate to every class as well as source, but this is not fully implemented yet.
How to purchase and upgrade heirlooms on PTR:
Estelle Gendry
and
Krom Stoutarm
sell heirlooms for gold. Prices are currently subject to change, and these may only cost gold right now for testing purposes.
Currently, when you purchase an heirloom, it is automatically added to your tab.
Clicking on the item in your tab creates a copy in your bags.
Applying an upgrade token to it permanently upgrades the heirloom.

With the new Recruit a Friend program unveiled this week, it's the perfect time to think about leveling! This guide covers ways to improve your leveling experience and useful beginner info for new Recruit-a-Friend players! Patch 5.4 made it pretty easy to get epics once you're 90, so let's talk about what you need to do to get there!
We've covered the basics like how to gain experience, transportation, and talents, as well as ways to speed up leveling like experience buffs and Recruit-a-Friend. We also look at some gear details, like heirlooms that increase experience gained, scaling enchants, and gems that can be used at different levels.

5.4 PTR: Siege of Orgrimmar and Timeless Isle BoA Gear, Talk Azeroth with Olivia
This week, Olivia Grace is fed up to the teeth of constantly talking about the in-game store so swears off it for now—long may it continue.
Instead, she's tackling something came to light following some research she did to answer a recent viewer question: item levels. She reckons gear is pretty broken in WoW right now and wants your ideas to fix it; Olivia gives a couple of her own to get you started.
She also tackles Ghostcrawler's recent tweets about item squish, in this context, and despite her rapidly disappearing voice, Olivia still manages to answer a viewer question or two in another packed show.
If you want to have your question answered the best way to get in touch with Olivia is via email to olivia@zam.com, or twitter @oliviadgrace, or by leaving a comment below!
Siege of Orgrimmar Heirlooms
In a recent PTR build, epic BoA items were datamined! These heirlooms drop from
Garrosh Hellscream
on Flex, Normal, and Heroic difficulty--another incentive to run raids besides LFR. These items have interesting models as well--they are based on Horde PvP weapons from classic WoW.
We've received confirmation from Blizzard that the item levels and stats are not final yet.[/b

5.2 PTR: New Heirlooms, Future Item Upgrades, Ghostcrawler Tweets
Ghostcrawler has been using Twitter instead of the forums for a while, and recently he's been addressing a lot of class balance issues, as well as talking about the PTR.
The biggest announcement he's recently made was that new gear in 5.2 won't have Item Upgrade options, such as Throne of Thunder raid gear. Instead, Item Upgrades may be options for patches that do not have new raid content.
Is Item Upgrade going to be available for 5.2 Gear (e.g. Tyrannical PVP and Throne of Thunder). Thoughts on how well it works?
ATM, we are planning on no upgrading during 5.2. Too early to evaluate how well it worked. I'm sure it will need tweaking. I would think having higher ilevel would help a lot in the new content and will compete for a time with newer gear.
still no answer if VP will be reset/downgraded like in the past on 5.2's release?
I don't believe we have answered that yet.

Hi. Is valor pts upgrade system implemented only for in-between tiers period or also for new tiers one like in 5.2. ? Thanks.

Mists of Pandaria Rare Spawns: Lost and Found Preview
We covered the
rare spawns of Pandaria
a few weeks ago, and thought it was cool how they dropped a bunch of unique vanity items like
Mr. Smite's Brass Compass
. We thought Blizzard really outdid themselves by returning to some of the detailed insanity of vanilla with quirky rare spawns.
Well, there's more.
For the
Lost and Found
Exploration achievement series, you'll loot rare items that are just
lying around
Pandaria--pulling them out of trees, opening boxes, exploring caves. It's like hunting for a rare spawns' loot, except the NPC step has been cut out! As for what you'll find:
BoA rare weapons--some with unique models for transmog.
Fun recipes including
Four Senses Brew
that gives the illusion that your character is wearing a red
Cursed Vision of Sargeras
(casters rejoice!)
Vendor trash like
Ancient Pandaren Woodcutter
with joking flavor text.
Useful profession perks like
Ancient Pandaren Fishing Lure

BoP rares, usually looted from a chest.
Items are still being added--there were several in the most recent patch--so right now not every object listed

Free to Play: Getting the Most out of Starter Edition Accounts
Last month, Blizzard introduced free-to-play Starter Edition Accounts. With these accounts, players could level up to 20--of course with some restrictions--and play for free indefinitely. It's an easy way for new players to test out the game, but it's also gained popularity among twinks who are looking for even more of a challenge with in-game restrictions. We've covered all the things you can and can't do on a trial account below.
Activating an Account
Players can get a Starter Account edition by visiting
the home page
, receiving a Recruit-a-Friend invitation, or through a trial key obtained from other Blizzard products.
Once signed up, you will be prompted to download the game, which can be played as the streaming client downloads data in the background.
Previous trial accounts made before 4.2, which had expired, are permanently reactivated. Characters level 20 and below on these accounts can be played again.

Leveling 201: A Guide to More Enjoyable Leveling
Leveling in Cataclysm is easy; but with all the additions, there's bound to be something surprising, whether you're a veteran or on your first alt. For better or for worse, Cataclysm has streamlined questing--but has also featured alternative ways to gain experience if questing becomes tedious on your 5th alt. Personally, I've leveled toons numerous ways: a rogue to 85 through questing on the first day of the xpac, a warlock in legacy epics through mining, a priest in full BoAs primarily through instances, a rogue strictly through herbalism, and a DK questing in half-BoAs. I've got a mage at 62 that's currently done a lot of LFD, but outpacing the quests for particular zones drives her crazy with the lore and consistent plot lines. I have friends that wait for Alterac Valley weekend for leveling, another that leveled a toon through LFD with 0 quests completed on purpose, and some insane guildmates that have leveled multiple toons through Archaeology in the hopes of getting an elusive epic (cough,
Zin'rokh, Destroyer of Worlds
) for their mains. Big thanks to Psynister for his expert leveling advice!
Once you hit 85, all the new Justice Point gear, Molten Front dailies, and Firelands rep farming await, so let's highlight all the ways you can get th

Bind to Battle.net Account Heirloom Items Coming in 4.1?
We were taking a peek at some of the
awesome Heirloom items
we discovered in today's PTR patch and noticed a majorly interesting detail: heirlooms will now
Bind to Battle.net account
! It seems that this feature has been added not only to the newly added heirlooms but to all previously implemented heirloom items as well! We have absolutely no idea how transferring these items between characters on different servers and whatnot will work, but we'll definitely update with any details we're able to find! Maybe we'll see a detailed Blizzard post on this real soon™!
We'll (of course) have our
PTR database
updated as soon as possible to support this change. :)
