World of Retcons
I wonder if them removing that line is a hint
I mean yes its a retcon, but its literally just 1 line in a comic that is set in the future, so its not even actually a retcon, its a change for the future.
Can Blizzard just COMMIT to its own lore for once instead of retconning every little inconvenient thing? So ridiculous, why even bother paying attention to the story anymore.
I agree that it's minor and shouldn't be considered a huge deal, but just because it appears in the future doesn't mean it can't be a retcon. Retcon refers to continuity. Continuity can include the past, present, and future states of the story. In the first comic the continuity included an event in the future, which included this line. Now the continuity has been changed to omit that line. Without a story explanation (time travel or something like it), this could be considered a retcon.
Yrel and her lightbound fanatics will come to Azeroth while we are away for ~10yrs real time, and will have begun to conquer the world in the name of the Light. Dunno if they will do anything with the Evergrowth botanists that came through when Maghar Orcs fled Alt-Draenor, ie Genosaur seeds sprouting. The book changes would kinda make sense with the Yrel and her fantastics threads still there. But how does Sylvannas and the cycle of life and death play into it?
I'm OK with this for the reasons mentioned by Felplagued, but like... let's not jump into the "all retcons are OK" camp, especially because a lot of WoW's retcons happened only because they carelessly forgot things. This, though, is set in the future and a very minor edit, but also very deliberate... so it's an interesting curiosity.
The weird thing is that even if Light and Shadow are not about being Good or Evil, both Velen and Anduin are characters that are strongly connected to the Light, and, at least in their point of view, the Light is the correct path.
Honestly, I'm kinda happy for this change. Velen himself seems to be drifting away from being the 'Prophet of the Light' ever since his son died, interactions with Illidan, Argus events, etc... It's been giving his character a bit more depth as opposed to being just this... symbol of virtue? *shrugs* Either way, I'm kind of hoping we see him set up as a foil for Yrel and Turalyon come the future. Someone to strike a balance with the Draenei who have always seemed a bit too quick to kneel, be it to the Legion, the Naaru, or even others in the case of the Broken.

Gotta admit, not been a fan of "ThE LiGhT CaN Be EvIl" and "ThE vOiD cAn Be GoOd" narrative they've been pushing recently. Like, yeah, there are examples of both but its still pretty heavily weighted towards the Light being a force of benevolence while the Void itself only cares about destroying things. Energies like that can obviously be used for whatever the person channeling wants, but its starting to get a little obnoxious- Especially when people try to push things like the Light actually being evil by nature.
THIS IS NOT A NEW CHANGE.The second version without the last line has been around for maybe a year or two. I found it wierd, but I didnt see the need ti bring it up before now
This seems like the kind of retcon no one should be too worried about (not that that helps). It's a retcon of a future timeline we never actually interact with, rather than a retcon of the backstory of the game we're currently playing.
(Just a personal tangent of thoughts)
